Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

Lovet være Gud, vår Herre Jesu Kristi Far, som har velsignet oss med all åndelig velsignelse i himmelen i Kristus.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

For i ham har han utvalgt oss før verdens grunnvoll ble lagt, for at vi skulle være hellige og uten feil for ham i kjærlighet.

According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

Han forutbestemte oss til barnekår ved Jesus Kristus, etter sin viljes gode behag,

Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

til pris for sin nådes herlighet, som han gav oss i Den elskede.

To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

I ham har vi forløsningen ved hans blod, tilgivelsen for våre synder, etter hans nådes rikdom.

In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

Som han rikelig har latt flyte over oss i all visdom og innsikt,

Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;

ved at han kunngjorde for oss sin viljes mysterium, etter sitt gode behag som han hadde lagt i ham.

Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:

At han, i tidens fylde, ville samle alt til ett i Kristus, både det som er i himmelen og det som er på jorden.

That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:

I ham har vi også fått del i arven, forutbestemt etter planen til han som virker alt etter sin viljes råd.

In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

For at vi skulle være til pris for hans herlighet, vi som først håpet på Kristus.

That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.

I ham har også dere, etter å ha hørt sannhetens ord, evangeliet om deres frelse, i ham har dere også, etter at dere kom til troen, blitt beseglet med Den hellige Ånds løfte,

In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

som er pantesummen på vår arv, til forløsning for eiendomsfolket, til pris for hans herlighet.

Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

Derfor, etter at jeg hørte om deres tro på Herren Jesus og kjærlighet til alle de hellige,

Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints,

opphører jeg ikke med å takke for dere, når jeg nevner dere i mine bønner;

Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;

at vår Herre Jesu Kristi Gud, herlighetens Far, må gi dere visdoms og åpenbarings Ånd til kunnskap om seg.

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:

Må deres hjertes øyne bli opplyst, så dere forstår hva håpet er ved hans kall, hvilke rikdommer hans herlighets arv er blant de hellige,

The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

og hvor overstrømmende stor hans kraft er for oss som tror, etter virkningen av hans veldige kraft,

And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,

som han viste i Kristus da han reiste ham opp fra de døde og satte ham ved sin høyre hånd i himmelen,

Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,

langt over alle makter og myndigheter, krefter og herredømmer, og over hvert navn som nevnes, ikke bare i denne verden, men også i den kommende.

Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:

Han la alt under hans føtter og gjorde ham til hode over alle ting i menigheten,

And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,

som er hans kropp, fylden av ham som fyller alt i alle.

Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
