Barn, adlyd deres foreldre i Herren, for dette er rett.

Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.

Hedre din far og mor; (dette er det første budet med et løfte;)

Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)

For at det må gå deg godt, og at du kan leve lenge på jorden.

That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

Og dere fedre, gjør ikke barna deres sinte, men oppdra dem med Herrens oppdraelse og formaning.

And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

Tjenere, vær lydige mot deres herrer her i det jordiske livet, med ærefrykt og respekt, av oppriktighet i hjertet, som dere ville tjene Kristus;

Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;

Ikke bare for å bli sett for å tilfredsstille mennesker, men som Kristi tjenere, gjør Guds vilje av hele hjertet;

Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;

Gjør tjeneste med god vilje, som for Herren og ikke for mennesker;

With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:

For vit at enhver god gjerning et menneske gjør, det samme skal han motta fra Herren, enten han er slave eller fri.

Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free.

Og dere herrer, handle på samme måte mot dem, og la være å true: For vit at deres Herre i himmelen også uten å se på person.

And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him.

Til slutt, mine brødre, vær sterke i Herren og i hans krafts styrke.

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

Ta på dere hele Guds rustning, slik at dere kan stå imot djevelens list.

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

For vi kjemper ikke mot kjøtt og blod, men mot makter, mot krefter, mot verdens herskere i mørket, mot åndelig ondskap i himmelrommet.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Ta derfor på dere hele Guds rustning, slik at dere kan stå imot på den onde dag, og når alt er gjort, stå fast.

Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Stå derfor opp, med sannhetens belte rundt livet, og iført rettferdighetens brystplate;

Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

Og ha føttene beredt med fredens evangelium;

And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

Fremfor alt, ta troens skjold, så dere kan slukke alle de flammende pilene fra den onde.

Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

Og ta imot frelsens hjelm, og Åndens sverd, som er Guds ord:

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

Be alltid med all bønn og påkallelse i Ånden. Vær årvåkne med all utholdenhet og påkallelse for alle de hellige.

Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Og for meg, at ord må bli gitt til meg, slik at jeg kan åpne min munn modig, for å gjøre kjent evangeliets mysterium,

And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,

for hvilket jeg er en ambassadør i lenker, slik at jeg i det kan tale modig, som jeg bør tale.

For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

For at dere også skal kjenne til mine forhold, og hvordan jeg har det, vil Tykikus, en elsket bror og trofast tjener i Herren, gjøre alt kjent for dere:

But that ye also may know my affairs, and how I do, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, shall make known to you all things:

Som jeg har sendt til dere for dette formålet, at dere skal kjenne til våre forhold, og at han kan styrke deres hjerter.

Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that ye might know our affairs, and that he might comfort your hearts.

Fred være med brødrene, og kjærlighet med tro, fra Gud Fader og Herren Jesus Kristus.

Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
