Moses svarte og sa: Men se, de vil ikke tro meg og ikke høre på min stemme, for de vil si: Herren har ikke vist seg for deg.

And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice: for they will say, The LORD hath not appeared unto thee.

Da sa Herren til ham: Hva er det du har i hånden? Han svarte: En stav.

And the LORD said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod.

Og han sa: Kast den på bakken. Så kastet han den på bakken, og den ble til en slange. Og Moses flyktet fra den.

And he said, Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it.

Da sa Herren til Moses: Rekk ut hånden din og ta den i halen. Og han rakte ut hånden, grep den, og den ble til en stav i hånden hans igjen.

And the LORD said unto Moses, Put forth thine hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand:

Dette skal få dem til å tro at Herren, deres fedres Gud, Abrahams Gud, Isaks Gud og Jakobs Gud, har vist seg for deg.

That they may believe that the LORD God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.

Herren sa videre til ham: Sett nå hånden din i brystet ditt. Så satte han hånden i brystet, og da han tok den ut igjen, se, så var hånden hans spedalsk, lik snø.

And the LORD said furthermore unto him, Put now thine hand into thy bosom. And he put his hand into his bosom: and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous as snow.

Og han sa: Sett hånden din tilbake i brystet. Han satte hånden tilbake i brystet, og da han tok den ut igjen, se, så var den like frisk som resten av hans hud.

And he said, Put thine hand into thy bosom again. And he put his hand into his bosom again; and plucked it out of his bosom, and, behold, it was turned again as his other flesh.

Og hvis de ikke tror deg eller lytter til det første tegnet, så skal de tro på det siste tegnet.

And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe thee, neither hearken to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter sign.

Og skulle de ikke tro på disse to tegnene heller, og ikke lytte til din stemme, skal du ta vann fra elven og helle det på tørt land, så skal vannet som du tar fra elven bli til blod på tørt land.

And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe also these two signs, neither hearken unto thy voice, that thou shalt take of the water of the river, and pour it upon the dry land: and the water which thou takest out of the river shall become blood upon the dry land.

Men Moses sa til Herren: Å, Herre, jeg er ikke veltalende, verken før eller nå siden du har talt til din tjener, for jeg er treig til å snakke og har en tung tunge.

And Moses said unto the LORD, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.

Da sa Herren til ham: Hvem har gjort menneskers munn? Hvem gjør dem stumme eller døve, seende eller blinde? Er det ikke jeg, Herren?

And the LORD said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD?

Gå nå derfor, og jeg vil være med din munn og lære deg hva du skal si.

Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.

Men han sa: Å, Herre, send heller hvem du vil sende.

And he said, O my Lord, send, I pray thee, by the hand of him whom thou wilt send.

Da ble Herrens vrede opptent mot Moses, og han sa: Er ikke din bror Aron levitten? Jeg vet at han kan tale godt. Se, han er allerede på vei for å møte deg, og når han ser deg, vil han glede seg i hjertet.

And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart.

Og du skal tale til ham og legge ordene i hans munn. Jeg vil være med din munn og med hans munn, og jeg vil lære dere hva dere skal gjøre.

And thou shalt speak unto him, and put words in his mouth: and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do.

Han skal tale for deg til folket. Han skal være som en munn for deg, og du skal være som Gud for ham.

And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people: and he shall be, even he shall be to thee instead of a mouth, and thou shalt be to him instead of God.

Ta denne staven i hånden din, for med den skal du gjøre tegn.

And thou shalt take this rod in thine hand, wherewith thou shalt do signs.

Da gikk Moses og vendte tilbake til Jetro, sin svigerfar, og sa til ham: Jeg ber deg, la meg dra tilbake til mine brødre i Egypt og se om de ennå lever. Og Jetro sa til Moses: Gå i fred.

And Moses went and returned to Jethro his father in law, and said unto him, Let me go, I pray thee, and return unto my brethren which are in Egypt, and see whether they be yet alive. And Jethro said to Moses, Go in peace.

Herren sa til Moses i Midjan: Gå tilbake til Egypt, for alle mennene som søkte ditt liv, er døde.

And the LORD said unto Moses in Midian, Go, return into Egypt: for all the men are dead which sought thy life.

Så tok Moses sin kone og sine sønner og satte dem på et esel, og han vendte tilbake til Egypt. Og Moses tok Guds stav i hånden sin.

And Moses took his wife and his sons, and set them upon an ass, and he returned to the land of Egypt: and Moses took the rod of God in his hand.

Herren sa til Moses: Når du kommer tilbake til Egypt, se til at du gjør alle de undrene for farao som jeg har lagt i din hånd. Men jeg vil gjøre hans hjerte hardt, så han ikke lar folket dra.

And the LORD said unto Moses, When thou goest to return into Egypt, see that thou do all those wonders before Pharaoh, which I have put in thine hand: but I will harden his heart, that he shall not let the people go.

Og du skal si til farao: Så sier Herren: Israel er min sønn, min førstefødte.

And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD, Israel is my son, even my firstborn:

Jeg sier deg, la min sønn dra, så han kan tjene meg. Hvis du nekter å la ham dra, se, da vil jeg slå i hjel din sønn, din førstefødte.

And I say unto thee, Let my son go, that he may serve me: and if thou refuse to let him go, behold, I will slay thy son, even thy firstborn.

Men mens Moses var underveis på vertshuset, møtte Herren ham og forsøkte å ta livet av ham.

And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the LORD met him, and sought to kill him.

Da tok Sippora en skarp stein og skar av forhuden på sin sønn og kastet den for føttene hans, og sa: Sannelig, en blodig brudgom er du for meg.

Then Zipporah took a sharp stone, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet, and said, Surely a bloody husband art thou to me.

Da lot han ham være. Hun sa: En blodig brudgom er du, på grunn av omskjæringen.

So he let him go: then she said, A bloody husband thou art, because of the circumcision.

Herren sa til Aron: Gå ut i ørkenen for å møte Moses. Og han gikk, møtte ham på fjellet ved Gud, og kysset ham.

And the LORD said to Aaron, Go into the wilderness to meet Moses. And he went, and met him in the mount of God, and kissed him.

Moses fortalte Aron alle ordene som Herren hadde sendt ham, og alle tegnene han hadde befalt ham å gjøre.

And Moses told Aaron all the words of the LORD who had sent him, and all the signs which he had commanded him.

Og Moses og Aron gikk og samlet alle Israels barns eldste.

And Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel:

Og Aron talte alle de ordene Herren hadde sagt til Moses, og han gjorde tegnene for folket.

And Aaron spake all the words which the LORD had spoken unto Moses, and did the signs in the sight of the people.

Og folket trodde. Da de hørte at Herren hadde sett til Israels barn og hadde sett deres lidelse, bøyde de hodene og tilba.

And the people believed: and when they heard that the LORD had visited the children of Israel, and that he had looked upon their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.
