Da kom Herren ned for å se byen og tårnet som menneskene hadde bygd.

And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.

Herren sa: Se, folket er ett, og de har alle ett språk; og dette er bare begynnelsen på det de vil gjøre. Nå vil ingenting de har bestemt seg for å gjøre, være umulig for dem.

And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one langua; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.

Kom, la oss gå ned og forvirre deres språk, så de ikke forstår hverandres tale.

Go to, let us go down, and there confound their langua, that they may not understand one another's speech.

Så spredte Herren dem derfra over hele jorden, og de sluttet å bygge byen.

So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.

Derfor ble byen kalt Babel, for der forvirret Herren språket på hele jorden, og derfra spredte Herren dem over hele jorden.

Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the langua of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.

Men Sarai var barnløs; hun hadde ingen barn.

But Sarai was barren; she had no child.

Tarah tok med seg Abram sin sønn, og Lot, sønnen til Haran, sønn av hans sønn, og Sarai, hans svigerdatter, Abrams kone, og de dro ut sammen fra Ur i Kaldea for å dra til landet Kanaan; de kom til Haran og bodde der.

And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.

Tiden for Tarahs liv ble to hundre og fem år, og Tarah døde i Haran.

And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.
