Then again Abraham took a wife, and her name was Keturah.

Hun fødte ham Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midjan, Jisjbak og Sjuah.

And she bare him Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah.

Jokshan fikk sønnene Sjeba og Dedan. Dedans sønner var Assurim, Letusjim og Leummim.

And Jokshan begat Sheba, and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, and Letushim, and Leummim.

Midjans sønner var Efa, Efer, Hanok, Abida og Eldaa. Alle disse var Keturas barn.

And the sons of Midian; Ephah, and Epher, and Hanoch, and Abida, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah.

Abraham ga alt han eide til Isak.

And Abraham gave all that he had unto Isaac.

And it came to pass after the death of Abraham, that God blessed his son Isaac; and Isaac dwelt by the well Lahai-roi.

Isak var førti år gammel da han tok Rebekka til kone, datteren til Betuel fra Paddan-Aram, søsteren til Laban arameeren.

And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah to wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padan-aram, the sister to Laban the Syrian.

Isak ba Herren for sin kone, fordi hun var barnløs. Herren hørte ham, og Rebekka, hans kone, ble gravid.

And Isaac intreated the LORD for his wife, because she was barren: and the LORD was intreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.

And the children struggled tother within her; and she said, If it be so, why am I thus? And she went to inquire of the LORD.

Herren sa til henne: "To folkeslag er i ditt skjød, to folk skal skilles fra ditt indre; det ene folk skal være sterkere enn det andre, og den eldste skal tjene den yngste."

And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronr than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younr.

And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb.

Den første som kom ut var rød og hårete over hele kroppen som et klesplagg, og de kalte ham Esau.

And the first came out red, all over like an hairy garment; and they called his name Esau.

Deretter kom broren hans ut, og hånden hans holdt fast i Esaus hæl, og han ble kalt Jakob. Isak var seksti år gammel da de ble født.

And after that came his brother out, and his hand took hold on Esau's heel; and his name was called Jacob: and Isaac was threescore years old when she bare them.

Guttene vokste opp, og Esau ble en dyktig jeger, en mann som levde i marken, mens Jakob var en rolig mann som bodde i telt.

And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents.

And Isaac loved Esau, because he did eat of his venison: but Rebekah loved Jacob.

And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red potta; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom.

Jakob sa: "Selg meg førstefødselsretten din i dag."

And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright.

Esau svarte: "Se, jeg holder på å dø; hva nytte har jeg av førstefødselsretten?"

And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me?

Jakob sa: "Sverg til meg i dag." Og han sverget til ham og solgte sin førstefødselsrett til Jakob.

And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob.

Så ga Jakob Esau brød og linsesuppe, og han spiste og drakk, stod opp og gikk sin vei. Slik foraktet Esau sin førstefødselsrett.

Then Jacob gave Esau bread and potta of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright.
