Da klarte ikke Josef å holde tilbake følelsene sine foran alle som sto der, og han ropte: «La alle gå ut fra meg.» Og ingen ble igjen hos ham da Josef lot sine brødre få vite hvem han var.

Then Joseph could not refrain himself before all them that stood by him; and he cried, Cause every man to go out from me. And there stood no man with him, while Joseph made himself known unto his brethren.

Han begynte å gråte høyt, og egypterne og hele faraos hus hørte det.

And he wept aloud: and the Egyptians and the house of Pharaoh heard.

Josef sa til sine brødre: «Jeg er Josef. Lever far enda?» Men brødrene hans kunne ikke svare ham, for de var forferdet over å se ham.

And Joseph said unto his brethren, I am Joseph; doth my father yet live? And his brethren could not answer him; for they were troubled at his presence.

Josef sa til sine brødre: «Kom nærmere meg, jeg ber dere.» Og de kom nærmere, og han sa: «Jeg er Josef, deres bror, som dere solgte til Egypt.»

And Joseph said unto his brethren, Come near to me, I pray you. And they came near. And he said, I am Joseph your brother, whom ye sold into Egypt.

«Men nå må dere ikke være bedrøvet eller sinte på dere selv fordi dere solgte meg hit, for Gud sendte meg i forveien for å redde liv.»

Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life.

«For i to år har det vært hungersnød i landet, og det vil fortsatt være fem år uten pløying eller innhøsting.»

For these two years hath the famine been in the land: and yet there are five years, in the which there shall neither be earing nor harvest.

«Gud sendte meg i forveien for dere, for å bevare en rest på jorden og for å redde livet deres gjennom en stor redning.»

And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance.

«Så nå var det ikke dere som sendte meg hit, men Gud. Han har gjort meg til en far for farao, en herre over hele hans hus og en hersker over hele Egypt.»

So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God: and he hath made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt.

«Skynd dere, dra opp til min far og si til ham: ‘Så sier din sønn Josef: Gud har gjort meg til herre over hele Egypt. Kom ned til meg, nøl ikke.»

Haste ye, and go up to my father, and say unto him, Thus saith thy son Joseph, God hath made me lord of all Egypt: come down unto me, tarry not:

«Du skal bo i landet Gosen og være nær meg, du, dine barn og din barnebarn, dine sauer og kveg og alt du har.»

And thou shalt dwell in the land of Goshen, and thou shalt be near unto me, thou, and thy children, and thy children's children, and thy flocks, and thy herds, and all that thou hast:

«Der vil jeg sørge for deg, for det er ennå fem år med sult, så du og ditt hushold og alt du eier ikke skal bli fattige.»

And there will I nourish thee; for yet there are five years of famine; lest thou, and thy household, and all that thou hast, come to poverty.

«Og se, dere ser selv, og min bror Benjamin ser, at det er min egen munn som taler til dere.»

And, behold, your eyes see, and the eyes of my brother Benjamin, that it is my mouth that speaketh unto you.

«Dere skal fortelle min far om all min ære i Egypt, og alt dere har sett. Skynd dere og bring min far hit ned.»

And ye shall tell my father of all my glory in Egypt, and of all that ye have seen; and ye shall haste and bring down my father hither.

Da omfavnet han sin bror Benjamin og gråt, og Benjamin gråt på hans skulder.

And he fell upon his brother Benjamin's neck, and wept; and Benjamin wept upon his neck.

Deretter kysset han alle sine brødre og gråt over dem. Og etter dette snakket brødrene med ham.

Moreover he kissed all his brethren, and wept upon them: and after that his brethren talked with him.

Ryktet om dette nådde faraos hus, og de sa: «Josefs brødre er kommet.» Dette gledet farao og hans tjenere.

And the fame thereof was heard in Pharaoh's house, saying, Joseph's brethren are come: and it pleased Pharaoh well, and his servants.

Og farao sa til Josef: «Si til dine brødre: Gjør dette; les deres dyr og dra tilbake til Kanaans land.

And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Say unto thy brethren, This do ye; lade your beasts, and go, t you unto the land of Canaan;

Ta faren deres og deres husholdninger og kom til meg. Jeg skal gi dere det gode av Egypts land, og dere skal spise landets overflod.»

And take your father and your households, and come unto me: and I will give you the good of the land of Egypt, and ye shall eat the fat of the land.

«Nå er dere beordret til å gjøre dette: Ta med vogner fra Egypt for deres små og deres hustruer, ta deres far og kom.»

Now thou art commanded, this do ye; take you wagons out of the land of Egypt for your little ones, and for your wives, and bring your father, and come.

«Bry dere ikke om deres eiendeler, for det beste av hele Egypts land er deres.»

Also regard not your stuff; for the good of all the land of Egypt is yours.

Israels barn gjorde som de ble fortalt, og Josef ga dem vogner etter faraos påbud og ga dem mat til reisen.

And the children of Israel did so: and Joseph gave them wagons, according to the commandment of Pharaoh, and gave them provision for the way.

Til hver av dem ga han skift med klær, men til Benjamin ga han tre hundre sølvstykker og fem skift med klær.

To all of them he gave each man chans of raiment; but to Benjamin he gave three hundred pieces of silver, and five chans of raiment.

Og til sin far sendte han denne gaven: ti esler lastet med gode ting fra Egypt, og ti eselhunner lastet med korn, brød og mat til sin far på reisen.

And to his father he sent after this manner; ten asses laden with the good things of Egypt, and ten she asses laden with corn and bread and meat for his father by the way.

Så sendte han sine brødre av sted, og de dro. Og han sa til dem: «Se til at dere ikke krangler på veien.»

So he sent his brethren away, and they departed: and he said unto them, See that ye fall not out by the way.

Da dro de opp fra Egypt og kom til Kanaans land, til Jakob, deres far.

And they went up out of Egypt, and came into the land of Canaan unto Jacob their father,

Og de fortalte ham: «Josef lever ennå, og han er hersker over hele Egypt.» Da ble Jakobs hjerte lammet, for han trodde dem ikke.

And told him, saying, Joseph is yet alive, and he is governor over all the land of Egypt. And Jacob's heart fainted, for he believed them not.

Men da de fortalte ham alle ordene Josef hadde sagt, og når han så vognene Josef hadde sendt for å hente ham, levde Jakobs ånd opp igjen.

And they told him all the words of Joseph, which he had said unto them: and when he saw the wagons which Joseph had sent to carry him, the spirit of Jacob their father revived:

Og Israel sa: «Det er nok; Josef, min sønn, lever enda. Jeg vil dra og se ham før jeg dør.»

And Israel said, It is enough; Joseph my son is yet alive: I will go and see him before I die.
