Israel dro så avsted med alt han eide og kom til Beer-Seba, hvor han ofret til sin far Isaks Gud.

And Israel took his journey with all that he had, and came to Beer-sheba, and offered sacrifices unto the God of his father Isaac.

Gud talte til Israel i drømmer om natten og sa: «Jakob, Jakob.» Og han svarte: «Her er jeg.»

And God spake unto Israel in the visions of the night, and said, Jacob, Jacob. And he said, Here am I.

Og Gud sa: «Jeg er Gud, din fars Gud. Frykt ikke for å dra ned til Egypt, for der vil jeg gjøre deg til et stort folk.

And he said, I am God, the God of thy father: fear not to go down into Egypt; for I will there make of thee a great nation:

Jeg vil dra ned med deg til Egypt, og jeg vil også føre deg tilbake igjen. Og Josef skal legge sin hånd på dine øyne.»

I will go down with thee into Egypt; and I will also surely bring thee up again: and Joseph shall put his hand upon thine eyes.

Jakob brøt opp fra Beer-Seba, og Israels sønner satte Jakob, sin far, de små barna og konene sine på vognene som farao hadde sendt for å hente ham.

And Jacob rose up from Beer-sheba: and the sons of Israel carried Jacob their father, and their little ones, and their wives, in the wagons which Pharaoh had sent to carry him.

De tok med seg buskapen og eiendelene de hadde anskaffet i landet Kanaan, og de dro til Egypt, Jakob og hele hans ætt med ham.

And they took their cattle, and their goods, which they had gotten in the land of Canaan, and came into Egypt, Jacob, and all his seed with him:

Sønnene til Ruben var Hanok, Pallu, Hesron og Karmi.

And the sons of Reuben; Hanoch, and Phallu, and Hezron, and Carmi.

Sønnene til Simeon var Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jakin, Sohar og Sjaul, sønnen av en kanaaneisk kvinne.

And the sons of Simeon; Jemuel, and Jamin, and Ohad, and Jachin, and Zohar, and Shaul the son of a Canaanitish woman.

Sønnene til Levi var Gersjon, Kehat og Merari.

And the sons of Levi; rshon, Kohath, and Merari.

Sønnene til Juda var Er, Onan, Sjela, Peres og Serah, men Er og Onan døde i Kanaan. Sønnene til Peres var Hesron og Hamul.

And the sons of Judah; Er, and Onan, and Shelah, and Pharez, and Zerah: but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. And the sons of Pharez were Hezron and Hamul.

Sønnene til Issakar var Tola, Puvva, Job og Sjimron.

And the sons of Issachar; Tola, and Phuvah, and Job, and Shimron.

Sønnene til Sebulon var Sered, Elon og Jahleel.

And the sons of Zebulun; Sered, and Elon, and Jahleel.

These are the sons of Rachel, which were born to Jacob: all the souls were fourteen.

Sønnene til Dan var Husjim.

And the sons of Dan; Hushim.

Sønnene til Naftali var Jahseel, Guni, Jeser og Sjillem.

And the sons of Naphtali; Jahzeel, and Guni, and Jezer, and Shillem.

Dette var sønnene til Bilha, som Laban ga til sin datter Rakel. Disse fødte hun til Jakob, i alt syv.

These are the sons of Bilhah, which Laban gave unto Rachel his daughter, and she bare these unto Jacob: all the souls were seven.

Han sendte Juda i forveien til Josef for å vise vei til Gosen. Så kom de til Gosen.

And he sent Judah before him unto Joseph, to direct his face unto Goshen; and they came into the land of Goshen.

Josef spente for vognen sin og dro opp for å møte sin far Israel i Gosen. Da Josef så ham, kastet han seg om halsen hans og gråt lenge.

And Joseph made ready his chariot, and went up to meet Israel his father, to Goshen, and presented himself unto him; and he fell on his neck, and wept on his neck a good while.

Israel sa til Josef: «Nå kan jeg dø, siden jeg har sett ditt ansikt og vet at du ennå lever.»

And Israel said unto Joseph, Now let me die, since I have seen thy face, because thou art yet alive.

Josef sa til brødrene sine og til hele sin fars hus: «Jeg vil dra opp og fortelle til farao og si til ham: ‘Mine brødre og min fars hus som bodde i Kanaan, har kommet til meg.

And Joseph said unto his brethren, and unto his father's house, I will go up, and shew Pharaoh, and say unto him, My brethren, and my father's house, which were in the land of Canaan, are come unto me;

Disse mennene er gjeter, for fra barndommen av har de stelt buskap. De har tatt med seg småfe, storfe og alt de eier.’»

And the men are shepherds, for their trade hath been to feed cattle; and they have brought their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have.

Når farao kaller på dere og spør: ‘Hva er deres arbeid?’

And it shall come to pass, when Pharaoh shall call you, and shall say, What is your occupation?

skal dere svare: ‘Dine tjenere har drevet med buskap fra ung alder av, slik som våre fedre.’ Da kan dere få bo i Gosen, for hver gjeter er en styggedom for egypterne.»

That ye shall say, Thy servants' trade hath been about cattle from our youth even until now, both we, and also our fathers: that ye may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination unto the Egyptians.
