Derfor bør vi gi desto større oppmerksomhet til det vi har hørt, for at vi ikke skal miste det av syne.

Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.

For hvis ordet som ble talt av engler var bindende, og hver overtredelse og ulydighet fikk sin rettferdige straff,

For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward;

hvordan skal vi da unnslippe hvis vi neglisjerer så stor en frelse, som først ble forkynt av Herren og deretter bekreftet for oss av dem som hørte ham?

How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

Gud selv vitnet også for dem med tegn og under, og med mange mirakler og Den Hellige Ånds gaver, etter sin egen vilje.

God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?

For til englene har han ikke lagt den kommende verden under, den som vi taler om.

For unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak.

Men noen har vitnet et sted og sagt: Hva er mennesket, at du husker det, eller menneskesønnen, at du besøker ham?

But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man, that thou visitest him?

Du gjorde ham lite ringere enn englene, du kronet ham med herlighet og ære, og satte ham over dine henders verk.

Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands:

Du la alt under hans føtter. For når han la alt under ham, lot han ingenting være utenfor hans herredømme. Men nå ser vi ennå ikke at alt er lagt under ham.

Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him.

Men vi ser Jesus, som ble gjort litt ringere enn englene for lidelse av døden, kronet med herlighet og ære, for at han ved Guds nåde skulle smake døden for alle.

But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

For det sømmet seg for ham, for hvem alle ting er, og ved hvem alle ting er, når han førte mange sønner til herlighet, å gjøre frelsens høvding fullkommen gjennom lidelser.

For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

For både han som helliger og de som blir helliget, er alle av én; derfor skammer han seg ikke over å kalle dem brødre.

For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,

Han sier: Jeg vil forkynne ditt navn for mine brødre, midt i forsamlingen vil jeg lovsynge deg.

Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee.

Og igjen: Jeg vil sette min lit til ham. Og igjen: Se, jeg og barna som Gud har gitt meg.

And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me.

Siden barna har del i kjøtt og blod, deltok også han på samme måte i det, for at han gjennom døden kunne ødelegge den som hadde dødens makt, det vil si djevelen,

Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

og fri dem som i frykt for døden hele livet var underkastet trelldom.

And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

For han tok ikke på seg englenes natur, men Abrahams ætt tok han på seg.

For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.

Derfor måtte han i alle ting bli lik sine brødre, for at han kunne bli en barmhjertig og trofast øversteprest i ting som angår Gud, for å bringe forsoning for folkets synder.

Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

For i det at han selv har lidd og blitt fristet, er han i stand til å hjelpe dem som blir fristet.

For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.
