Ve over dem som gir urettferdige påbud, og dem som skriver undertrykkende lover som de har foreskrevet;

Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness which they have prescribed;

For å hindre de trengende i å få rettferdighet og ta bort de fattiges rett i mitt folk, slik at enker blir deres bytte, og de kan plyndre de farløse!

To turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless!

Hva vil dere gjøre på dommens dag og i den ødeleggelsen som kommer fra det fjerne? Til hvem vil dere flykte for hjelp? Og hvor vil dere etterlate deres ære?

And what will ye do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from far? to whom will ye flee for help? and where will ye leave your glory?

Uten meg skal de bøye seg blant de fangne, og de skal falle blant de drepte. For alt dette har hans vrede ikke vendt seg bort, men hans hånd er fortsatt utstrakt.

Without me they shall bow down under the prisoners, and they shall fall under the slain. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

Å, assyrer, redskapet for min vrede, staven i deres hånd er min harme.

O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation.

Jeg vil sende ham mot et hyklersk folk, og mot folket som jeg er vred på, vil jeg gi ham et oppdrag, for å plyndre, ta bytte og tråkke dem ned som skitt på gatene.

I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.

Men det er ikke slik han ser det, og hans hjerte tenker det ikke slik; men i sitt hjerte ønsker han å ødelegge og utrydde mange nasjoner.

Howbeit he meaneth not so, neither doth his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy and cut off nations not a few.

For han sier: Er ikke mine fyrster som konger?

For he saith, Are not my princes altogether kings?

Er ikke Kalno som Karkemisj? Er ikke Hamat som Arpad? Er ikke Samaria som Damaskus?

Is not Calno as Carchemish? is not Hamath as Arpad? is not Samaria as Damascus?

Min hånd har funnet rikene med avguder, hvis utskårne bilder overgår dem i Jerusalem og Samaria.

As my hand hath found the kingdoms of the idols, and whose graven images did excel them of Jerusalem and of Samaria;

Skal jeg ikke gjøre mot Jerusalem og hennes avguder som jeg har gjort mot Samaria og hennes avguder?

Shall I not, as I have done unto Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and her idols?

Når Herren har fullført hele sitt verk på Sions fjell og i Jerusalem, vil jeg straffe Assyrias konges stolte hjerte og herligheten i hans hovmodige blikk.

Wherefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord hath performed his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks.

For han sier: Ved styrken av min hånd har jeg gjort det, og ved min visdom, for jeg er klok; og jeg har fjernet grensene til folkene, og jeg har plyndret deres skatter, og jeg har felt innbyggerne som en modig mann.

For he saith, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: and I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man:

Min hånd har funnet folkets rikdommer som et rede, og slik som man samler forlatte egg, har jeg samlet hele jorden; og det var ingen som beveget en vinge, åpnet en munn eller peip.

And my hand hath found as a nest the riches of the people: and as one gathereth eggs that are left, have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped.

Skal øksa rose seg mot han som hugger med den? Eller skal sagen opphøye seg over han som sager med den? Som om staven skulle svinge den som løfter den, eller som om stokken skulle løfte den som ikke er tre.

Shall the axe boast itself against him that heweth therewith? or shall the saw magnify itself against him that shaketh it? as if the rod should shake itself against them that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift up itself, as if it were no wood.

Derfor skal Herren, hærskarenes Herre, sende magerhet blant hans mektige; og under hans herlighet skal han tenne en brann som en flamme.

Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of hosts, send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory he shall kindle a burning like the burning of a fire.

Israels lys skal bli til en ild, og hans Hellige til en flamme, og den skal brenne opp og fortære hans tornebusker og tistler på én dag;

And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: and it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day;

Den skal fortære herligheten av hans skog og hans fruktbare mark, både sjel og legeme, og de skal være som når en faneholder besvimer.

And shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body: and they shall be as when a standardbearer fainteth.

De gjenværende trærne i hans skog skal være så få at et barn kan skrive dem opp.

And the rest of the trees of his forest shall be few, that a child may write them.

På den dagen skal de som er igjen av Israel og de som er sluppet unna av Jakobs hus, ikke lenger stole på han som slo dem, men på Herren, Israels Hellige, i sannhet.

And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no more again stay upon him that smote them; but shall stay upon the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.

En rest skal vende tilbake, ja, den resterende del av Jakob, til Gud den Mektige.

The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty God.

For selv om folket ditt, Israel, er som sanden ved havet, skal kun en rest av dem vende tilbake; den bestemte ødeleggende dommen skal strømme over med rettferdighet.

For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, yet a remnant of them shall return: the consumption decreed shall overflow with righteousness.

For Herren, hærskarenes Gud, skal fullføre en utslettelse, likevel bestemt, midt i hele landet.

For the Lord GOD of hosts shall make a consumption, even determined, in the midst of all the land.

Derfor sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud: Mitt folk som bor i Sion, frykt ikke for assyreren; han skal slå deg med en stav og løfte sin stokk mot deg, slik som i Egypt.

Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD of hosts, O my people that dwellest in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian: he shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt.

For om enn bare en liten stund, skal harmen opphøre, og min vrede i deres ødeleggelse.

For yet a very little while, and the indignation shall cease, and mine anger in their destruction.

Og Herren, hærskarenes Gud, skal oppvække en svøpe mot ham, som Midjans nederlag ved Oreb-klippen; og som hans stav var over havet, slik skal han løfte den igjen, som i Egypt.

And the LORD of hosts shall stir up a scourge for him according to the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb: and as his rod was upon the sea, so shall he lift it up after the manner of Egypt.

På den dagen skal hans byrde tas av fra dine skuldre og hans åk av din nakke, og åket skal ødelegges på grunn av salvingen.

And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.

Han har kommet til Aiat, han har gått over til Migron; i Mikmasj har han etterlatt sitt gods.

He is come to Aiath, he is passed to Migron; at Michmash he hath laid up his carriages:

De har krysset fjorden; i Giba har de slått leir; Rama er redd; Sauls Gibeah har flyktet bort.

They are gone over the passage: they have taken up their lodging at Geba; Ramah is afraid; Gibeah of Saul is fled.

Rop høyt, du datter av Gallim! Hør etter, Laish! Å, stakkars Anatot!

Lift up thy voice, O daughter of Gallim: cause it to be heard unto Laish, O poor Anathoth.

Madmena er flyttet; innbyggerne i Gebim har samlet seg for å flykte.

Madmenah is removed; the inhabitants of Gebim gather themselves to flee.

Enda den dagen skal han ennå være ved Nob: han skal true med hånden mot Sions datters berg, mot Jerusalems høyde.

As yet shall he remain at Nob that day: he shall shake his hand against the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.

Se, Herren, hærskarenes Gud, skal hogge av grenen med redsel; og de høye statuer skal bli felt, og de stolte skal ydmykes.

Behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, shall lop the bough with terror: and the high ones of stature shall be hewn down, and the haughty shall be humbled.

Han skal hugge skogens tykkelse med jern, og Libanon skal falle ved den mektige.

And he shall cut down the thickets of the forest with iron, and Lebanon shall fall by a mighty one.
