Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, whose glorious beauty is a fading flower, which are on the head of the fat valleys of them that are overcome with wine!

Se, Herren har en mektig og sterk en, som som en haglstorm og en ødeleggende storm, som en flodbølge av mektige vann, skal kaste den til jorden med hånden.

Behold, the Lord hath a mighty and strong one, which as a tempest of hail and a destroying storm, as a flood of mighty waters overflowing, shall cast down to the earth with the hand.

Den stolte kransen, de berusede i Efraim, skal bli tråkket under føttene:

The crown of pride, the drunkards of Ephraim, shall be trodden under feet:

Og den strålende skjønnheten, som er på hodet av den fete dalen, skal være en visnende blomst, og som den hastige frukten før sommeren; som når noen ser den, mens den ennå er i hans hånd, spiser han den opp.

And the glorious beauty, which is on the head of the fat valley, shall be a fading flower, and as the hasty fruit before the summer; which when he that looketh upon it seeth, while it is yet in his hand he eateth it up.

Den dagen skal Herren, hærskarenes Gud, være en krone av herlighet og en diadem av skjønnhet for resten av sitt folk,

In that day shall the LORD of hosts be for a crown of glory, and for a diadem of beauty, unto the residue of his people,

Og for en ånd av dom for dem som sitter til doms, og for styrke til dem som vender kampen til porten.

And for a spirit of judgment to him that sitteth in judgment, and for strength to them that turn the battle to the gate.

Men også de har feilet på grunn av vin, og ved sterk drikk er de kommet på avveie; presten og profeten har feilet ved sterk drikk, de er oppslukt av vin, de er kommet på avveie ved sterk drikk; de feiler i syn, de snubler i dom.

But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment.

For alle bord er fulle av oppkast og urenhet, så det finnes ikke et rent sted.

For all tables are full of vomit and filthiness, so that there is no place clean.

Hvem skal han lære kunnskap? Og hvem skal han få til å forstå lære? De som er avvent fra melk, de som er tatt fra brystene.

Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.

For med stammende lepper og på et annet språk skal han tale til dette folket.

For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.

Til hvem han sa: Dette er hvilen som dere kan gi de trettede hvile; og dette er fornyelsen: men de ville ikke høre.

To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.

But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.

Derfor hør Herrens ord, dere spottere, som hersker over dette folket som er i Jerusalem.

Wherefore hear the word of the LORD, ye scornful men, that rule this people which is in Jerusalem.

Fordi dere har sagt: Vi har gjort en pakt med døden, og med dødsriket har vi en overenskomst; når den oversvømmende pesten skal gå gjennom, skal den ikke komme til oss: for vi har gjort løgn til vår tilflukt, og under falskhet har vi skjult oss:

Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:

Derfor sier Herren Gud: Se, jeg legger i Sion en grunnsten, en prøvd sten, en kostbar hjørnesten, et trygt fundament: Den som tror, skal ikke skynde seg.

Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.

Dom vil jeg også legge til målesnor, og rettferdighet til lodd: og haglet skal feie bort løgnenes tilflukt, og vannene skal oversvømme skjulestedet.

Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.

Og deres pakt med døden skal bli annullert, og deres overenskomst med dødsriket skal ikke stå; når den oversvømmende pesten skal gå gjennom, skal den tråkke dere ned.

And your covenant with death shall be dnnulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it.

Fra den tid den går ut, skal den ta dere: for morgen etter morgen skal den passere, dag og natt: og det vil bare være en plage å forstå rapporten.

From the time that it goeth forth it shall take you: for morning by morning shall it pass over, by day and by night: and it shall be a vexation only to understand the report.

For sengen er kortere enn at en mann kan strekke seg ut på den, og dekket er smalere enn at han kan pakke seg inn i det.

For the bed is shorter than that a man can stretch himself on it: and the covering narrower than that he can wrap himself in it.

For Herren skal reise seg som på fjellet Perasim, han skal være vred som i Gibeons dal, for at han kan gjøre sin gjerning, sin merkelige gjerning; og fullføre sin handling, sin merkelige handling.

For the LORD shall rise up as in mount Perazim, he shall be wroth as in the valley of Gibeon, that he may do his work, his strange work; and bring to pass his act, his strange act.

Nå, altså, vær ikke spottere, for at deres bånd ikke skal bli strengere: for jeg har hørt fra Herren, hærskarenes Gud, en utslettelse, ja, bestemt over hele jorden.

Now therefore be ye not mockers, lest your bands be made strong: for I have heard from the Lord GOD of hosts a consumption, even determined upon the whole earth.

Lytt, og hør min stemme; lytt, og hør min tale.

Give ye ear, and hear my voice; hearken, and hear my speech.

Pløyer pløyeren hele dagen for å så? Åpner han og bryter jordklumpene av sin jord?

Doth the plowman plow all day to sow? doth he open and break the clods of his ground?

Når han har jevnet ansiktet derav, vil han ikke kaste fiken, og spre karve, og så hovedhviten og den utvalgte bygg og rug på sin plass?

When he hath made plain the face thereof, doth he not cast abroad the fitches, and scatter the cummin, and cast in the principal wheat and the appointed barley and the rie in their place?

For hans Gud instruerer ham til klokskap, og lærer ham.

For his God doth instruct him to discretion, and doth teach him.

For fiken blir ikke tresket med treskingsredskap, heller ikke blir en vognhjul snudd over karve; men fiken blir slåt selv med en stav, og karve med en stang.

For the fitches are not threshed with a threshing instrument, neither is a cart wheel turned about upon the cummin; but the fitches are beaten out with a staff, and the cummin with a rod.

Brødkornet knuses, fordi han vil ikke alltid treske det, hverken bryte det med hjulene på hans vogn, eller knuse det med hans ryttere.

Bread corn is bruised; because he will not ever be threshing it, nor break it with the wheel of his cart, nor bruise it with his horsemen.

Dette kommer også fra Herren, hærskarenes Gud, som er underfull i råd, og utmerket i arbeid.

This also cometh forth from the LORD of hosts, which is wonderful in counsel, and excellent in working.
