Se, Herren, hærskarenes Gud, tar bort fra Jerusalem og Juda både støtte og stav, hele brødets støtte og hele vannets.

For, behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, doth take away from Jerusalem and from Judah the stay and the staff, the whole stay of bread, and the whole stay of water,

De mektige menn, krigeren, dommeren, profeten, den kloke og den gamle,

The mighty man, and the man of war, the judge, and the prophet, and the prudent, and the ancient,

Førti-mannen og den æreverdige, rådgiveren, den dyktige håndverkeren og den veltalende taleren.

The captain of fifty, and the honourable man, and the counseller, and the cunning artificer, and the eloquent orator.

Jeg vil la barn bli deres fyrster, og småbarn skal herske over dem.

And I will give children to be their princes, and babes shall rule over them.

Folk vil bli undertrykt, hver av en annen, og hver av sin nabo. Barnet skal opptre hovmodig mot den gamle, den lave mot den ærefulle.

And the people shall be oppressed, every one by another, and every one by his neighbour: the child shall behave himself proudly against the ancient, and the base against the honourable.

Når en mann skal ta tak i sin bror fra farens hus og si: Du har klær, vær vår hersker, og la denne ruinen være under din hånd.

When a man shall take hold of his brother of the house of his father, saying, Thou hast clothing, be thou our ruler, and let this ruin be under thy hand:

Da skal han sverge den dagen og si: Jeg vil ikke være en healer, for i mitt hus er verken brød eller klær. Gjør meg ikke til en hersker over folket.

In that day shall he swear, saying, I will not be an healer; for in my house is neither bread nor clothing: make me not a ruler of the people.

For Jerusalem er ødelagt, og Juda har falt, fordi deres tunge og deres gjerninger er mot Herren, for å trosse hans herlighets øyne.

For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen: because their tongue and their doings are against the LORD, to provoke the eyes of his glory.

Utseendet deres vitner mot dem; de forteller om sin synd som Sodom, de skjuler det ikke. Ve deres sjel! For de har belønnet seg selv med ondt.

The shew of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves.

Si til de rettferdige at det skal gå dem vel, for de skal spise frukten av sine gjerninger.

Say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings.

Ve de ugudelige! Det skal gå dem ille, for lønnen for deres handlinger skal bli gitt dem.

Woe unto the wicked! it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him.

Når det gjelder mitt folk, er det barn som undertrykker dem, og kvinner som hersker over dem. Mitt folk, de som leder dere, får dere til å feile og ødelegger veiene dere skulle gå.

As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.

Herren står opp for å tale, og reiser seg for å dømme folket.

The LORD standeth up to plead, and standeth to judge the people.

Herren skal gå til doms med folkets eldste og de ledere: Dere har ødelagt vingården, og krigsbyttet fra de fattige er i deres hus.

The LORD will enter into judgment with the ancients of his people, and the princes thereof: for ye have eaten up the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses.

Hva betyr dette at dere knuser mitt folk i stykker og maler de fattiges ansikter? sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud.

What mean ye that ye beat my people to pieces, and grind the faces of the poor? saith the Lord GOD of hosts.

Herren sier dessuten: Fordi Sions døtre er hovmodige, og går med oppstrakte nakker og lystne øyne, går de og tripper og klinger med føttene sine,

Moreover the LORD saith, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet:

Derfor vil Herren gjøre Sions døtres hode skallig, og Herren vil avdekke deres hemmelige steder.

Therefore the Lord will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the LORD will discover their secret parts.

Den dagen vil Herren ta bort de prangende smykkene ved føttene deres, og hordene deres, og de runde smykkene som månen.

In that day the Lord will take away the bravery of their tinkling ornaments about their feet, and their cauls, and their round tires like the moon,

Kjedene, armbåndene og slørene,

The chains, and the bracelets, and the mufflers,

Hattene, ankelkjeder, hodebånd, parfymebeholderne og øredobbene,

The bonnets, and the ornaments of the legs, and the headbands, and the tablets, and the earrings,

Ringene og neseringene,

The rings, and nose jewels,

De forskjellige klessett, mantelene, slørene og foldene,

The changeable suits of apparel, and the mantles, and the wimples, and the crisping pins,

Speilene, det fine linet, hodepryd og slørene.

The glasses, and the fine linen, and the hoods, and the vails.

Det skal skje at i stedet for god lukt skal det være stank; i stedet for belte et tau; i stedet for velstelt hår skallethet; i stedet for en vakker drakt et tøystykke av sekk; og brannmerker i stedet for skjønnhet.

And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; and instead of a girdle a rent; and instead of well set hair baldness; and instead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth; and burning instead of beauty.

Dine menn skal falle for sverdet, og dine helter i krigen.

Thy men shall fall by the sword, and thy mighty in the war.

Hennes porter skal sørge og klage; hun skal sitte forlatt på bakken.

And her gates shall lament and mourn; and she being desolate shall sit upon the ground.
