Det skjedde i de dager da Akas, sønn av Jotam og sønnesønn av Ussia, var konge i Juda, at Resin, kongen av Syria, og Pekah, sønn av Remalja, kongen av Israel, dro opp mot Jerusalem for å føre krig mot det, men klarte ikke å beseire det.

And it came to pass in the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up toward Jerusalem to war against it, but could not prevail against it.

Da ble det sagt til Davids hus: Syria har sluttet forbund med Efraim. Og hans hjerte ble beveget, og folkets hjerte også, som trærne i skogen beveger seg med vinden.

And it was told the house of David, saying, Syria is confederate with Ephraim. And his heart was moved, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the wood are moved with the wind.

Herren sa da til Jesaja: Gå ut for å møte Akas, du og din sønn Sear-Jasjub, ved enden av vannledningen fra den øvre dammen, ved veien til vaskerens mark.

Then said the LORD unto iah, Go forth now to meet Ahaz, thou, and Shear-jashub thy son, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the fuller's field;

Og si til ham: Vær oppmerksom og hold deg i ro, frykt ikke, og vær ikke motløs på grunn av disse to rykende brannstubbene, for det brennende sinne til Resin med Syria og sønnen til Remalja.

And say unto him, Take heed, and be quiet; fear not, neither be fainthearted for the two tails of these smoking firebrands, for the fierce anger of Rezin with Syria, and of the son of Remaliah.

Fordi Syria, Efraim og sønnen til Remalja har lagt onde planer mot deg og sier:

Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah, have taken evil counsel against thee, saying,

La oss dra opp mot Juda, sette det i opprør, og lage en åpning i det for oss, og sette Tabeals sønn som konge der.

Let us go up against Judah, and vex it, and let us make a breach therein for us, and set a king in the midst of it, even the son of Tabeal:

Så sier Gud Herren: Det skal ikke stå fast, og det skal ikke skje.

Thus saith the Lord GOD, It shall not stand, neither shall it come to pass.

For Damaskus er hodet til Syria, og Resin er hodet til Damaskus. Om sekstifem år skal Efraim være knust, slik at det ikke lenger er et folk.

For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin; and within threescore and five years shall Ephraim be broken, that it be not a people.

Og Samaria er hodet til Efraim, og sønnen til Remalja er hodet til Samaria. Om dere ikke tror dette, skal dere heller ikke stå fast.

And the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah's son. If ye will not believe, surely ye shall not be established.

Herren talte så igjen til Akas og sa:

Moreover the LORD spake again unto Ahaz, saying,

Be om et tegn fra Herren din Gud; be enten i dybden eller i høyden ovenfor.

Ask thee a sign of the LORD thy God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above.

Men Akas sa: Jeg vil ikke be om noe, og jeg vil ikke friste Herren.

But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I tempt the LORD.

Da sa han: Hør nå, Davids hus! Er det en liten ting for dere å trettede mennesker, at dere også vil trettede Gud min?

And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also?

Derfor skal Herren selv gi dere et tegn: Se, en jomfru skal bli med barn og føde en sønn, og hun skal kalle ham Immanuel.

Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Han skal spise smør og honning, så han kan vite å forkaste det onde og velge det gode.

Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.

For før gutten vet å forkaste det onde og velge det gode, skal det landet du frykter, være forlatt av begge sine konger.

For before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings.

Herren skal la dager komme over deg, over ditt folk, og over din fars hus, slike dager som ikke har kommet siden Efraim skilte seg fra Juda, nemlig Assyrias konge.

The LORD shall bring upon thee, and upon thy people, and upon thy father's house, days that have not come, from the day that Ephraim departed from Judah; even the king of Assyria.

På den dagen skal Herren plystre etter fluen fra den ytterste delen av elvene i Egypt, og etter bien i Assyrias land.

And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall hiss for the fly that is in the uttermost part of the rivers of Egypt, and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria.

De skal komme og slå seg ned alle sammen i de øde dalene, i bergkløftene, på alle tornebusker og på alle buskasene.

And they shall come, and shall rest all of them in the desolate valleys, and in the holes of the rocks, and upon all thorns, and upon all bushes.

På den samme dagen skal Herren barbere med en leid kniv bortover elven, assyrerkongen, hodet og hårene på føttene, og også ta bort skjegget.

In the same day shall the Lord shave with a rasor that is hired, namely, by them beyond the river, by the king of Assyria, the head, and the hair of the feet: and it shall also consume the beard.

Det skal skje på den dagen at en mann skal oppfostre en ung ku og to sauer.

And it shall come to pass in that day, that a man shall nourish a young cow, and two sheep;

For den rike melken som de skal gi, skal han spise smør. For smør og honning skal alle spise som er igjen i landet.

And it shall come to pass, for the abundance of milk that they shall give he shall eat butter: for butter and honey shall every one eat that is left in the land.

Det skal skje på den dag at hvert sted hvor det fantes tusen vinranker verdt tusen sølvpenger, skal bli til torn og tistel.

And it shall come to pass in that day, that every place shall be, where there were a thousand vines at a thousand silverlings, it shall even be for briers and thorns.

Med piler og buer skal menn komme dit, for hele landet skal bli til torn og tistel.

With arrows and with bows shall men come thither; because all the land shall become briers and thorns.

Og på alle åser som blir gravd med hakke, skal det ikke komme frykt for torn og tistel; men det skal være stedet hvor okser slippes løs, og hvor småfe tråkker rundt.

And on all hills that shall be digged with the mattock, there shall not come thither the fear of briers and thorns: but it shall be for the sending forth of oxen, and for the treading of lesser cattle.
