Herren sa videre til meg: Ta deg en stor bokrull og skriv på den med en manns penn om Maher-sjalal-hasj-bas.

Moreover the LORD said unto me, Take thee a great roll, and write in it with a man's pen concerning Maher-shalal-hash-baz.

Og jeg valgte trofaste vitner til å bekrefte det, Uria, presten, og Sakarja, sønn av Jeberekja.

And I took unto me faithful witnesses to record, Uriah the priest, and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah.

Så gikk jeg til profetinnen, og hun ble gravid og fødte en sønn. Da sa Herren til meg: Gi ham navnet Maher-sjalal-hasj-bas.

And I went unto the prophetess; and she conceived, and bare a son. Then said the LORD to me, Call his name Maher-shalal-hash-baz.

For før barnet kan rope «Min far» og «Min mor», skal rikdommene fra Damaskus og byttet fra Samaria bli tatt med foran kongen av Assyria.

For before the child shall have knowledge to cry, My father, and my mother, the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria shall be taken away before the king of Assyria.

Herren talte også til meg igjen og sa:

The LORD spake also unto me again, saying,

Fordi dette folket har forkastet vannene fra Siloa som flyter stille, og heller gleder seg over Resin og Remaljas sønn,

Forasmuch as this people refuseth the waters of Shiloah that go softly, and rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah's son;

se, derfor skal Herren føre over dem de sterke og mange vannene fra elven, selv kongen av Assyria og all hans herlighet. Han skal stige opp over alle sine kanaler og gå over alle sine bredder.

Now therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth up upon them the waters of the river, strong and many, even the king of Assyria, and all his glory: and he shall come up over all his channels, and go over all his banks:

Han skal dra gjennom Juda, flomme over og gå videre. Han skal nå helt opp til halsen, og vingene hans skal dekke hele ditt land, Immanuel.

And he shall pass through Judah; he shall overflow and go over, he shall reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanuel.

Gå sammen, dere folkeslag, og bli knust! Lytt, alle dere land langt borte! Bind sammen styrken deres, og bli knust; bind sammen styrken deres, og bli knust.

Associate yourselves, O ye people, and ye shall be broken in pieces; and give ear, all ye of far countries: gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces.

Legg planer, men de skal mislykkes; sett fram ord, men de skal ikke stå, for Gud er med oss.

Take counsel together, and it shall come to nought; speak the word, and it shall not stand: for God is with us.

For Herren talte til meg med sterk hånd og advarte meg mot å følge denne folkes vei, idet han sa:

For the LORD spake thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this people, saying,

Si ikke «konspirasjon» om alt dette folket kaller konspirasjon; frykt ikke det de frykter, og vær ikke redde.

Say ye not, A confederacy, to all them to whom this people shall say, A confederacy; neither fear ye their fear, nor be afraid.

Herren, hærskarenes Gud, hellige Ham; la Ham være deres frykt og redsel.

Sanctify the LORD of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.

Han skal være et helligdom, men også en snublestein og et fald for begge Israels hus, en felle og en snare for Jerusalems innbyggere.

And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

Mange blant dem skal snuble, falle, bli knust, bli fanget og bli tatt.

And many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.

Bind vitnesbyrdet sammen, forsegle loven blant mine disipler.

Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples.

Jeg vil vente på Herren, som skjuler sitt ansikt for Jakobs hus, og jeg vil se etter ham.

And I will wait upon the LORD, that hideth his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.

Se, jeg og barna som Herren har gitt meg, er som tegn og undere i Israel fra Herren, hærskarenes Gud, som bor på Sionfjellet.

Behold, I and the children whom the LORD hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth in mount Zion.

Når de sier til dere: «Søk til dem som har åndene i seg og til trollmenn som kvitrer og mumler», skal ikke et folk søke sin Gud? Skal de hente råd fra de døde for de levende?

And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?

Til loven og til vitnesbyrdet! Hvis de ikke taler overensstemmende med dette ordet, skyldes det at det ikke er noe lys i dem.

To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

De skal vandre gjennom landet, vanskelig plaget og sultne, og når de blir sultne, skal de bli rasende og forbanne sin konge og sin Gud mens de ser oppover.

And they shall pass through it, hardly bestead and hungry: and it shall come to pass, that when they shall be hungry, they shall fret themselves, and curse their king and their God, and look upward.

De skal se ut over jorden, men se nød og mørke, fortvilelsens skodde, og de skal bli drevet ut i mørket.

And they shall look unto the earth; and behold trouble and darkness, dimness of anguish; and they shall be driven to darkness.
