Dette er ordet som kom til Jeremia fra Herren:

The word that came to emiah from the LORD, saying,

Hør ordene i denne pakten, og tal til mennene i Juda og innbyggerne i Jerusalem:

Hear ye the words of this covenant, and speak unto the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of usalem;

Du skal si til dem: Så sier Herren, Israels Gud: Forbannet være den som ikke lytter til ordene i denne pakten,

And say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel; Cursed be the man that obeyeth not the words of this covenant,

som jeg befalte deres fedre den dagen jeg førte dem ut av landet Egypt, fra jernovnen, og sa: Hør min røst og gjør alt det jeg befaler dere, slik at dere kan være mitt folk, og jeg skal være deres Gud.

Which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying, Obey my voice, and do them, according to all which I command you: so shall ye be my people, and I will be your God:

Dette for å innfri den eden jeg sverget til deres fedre, om å gi dem et land som flyter av melk og honning, slik det er i dag. Da svarte jeg: La det skje, Herre.

That I may perform the oath which I have sworn unto your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this day. Then answered I, and said, So be it, O LORD.

Så sa Herren til meg: Forkynn alle disse ordene i byene i Juda og på gatene i Jerusalem og si: Hør ordene i denne pakten, og følg dem.

Then the LORD said unto me, Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of usalem, saying, Hear ye the words of this covenant, and do them.

For jeg har alvorlig advart deres fedre den dagen jeg førte dem ut fra landet Egypt, helt til denne dag, tidlig og med stor alvor, og sagt: Lytt til min røst.

For I earnestly protested unto your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even unto this day, rising early and protesting, saying, Obey my voice.

Men de hørte ikke og bøyde ikke øret, men fulgte hver sin onde hjertes innbilninger. Derfor vil jeg bringe over dem alle ordene i denne pakten, som jeg befalte dem å gjøre, men de gjorde dem ikke.

Yet they obeyed not, nor inclined their ear, but walked every one in the imagination of their evil heart: therefore I will bring upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do; but they did them not.

Og Herren sa til meg: Det er funnet en sammensvergelse blant mennene i Juda og innbyggerne i Jerusalem.

And the LORD said unto me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, and among the inhabitants of usalem.

De har vendt seg tilbake til sine forfedres synder, som nektet å høre mine ord. De har gått etter andre guder for å tjene dem, og Israels hus og Judas hus har brutt min pakt som jeg gjorde med deres fedre.

They are turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, which refused to hear my words; and they went after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.

Derfor sier Herren: Se, jeg vil bringe ulykke over dem som de ikke kan unnslippe. Og selv om de roper til meg, vil jeg ikke høre på dem.

Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, I will not hearken unto them.

Da skal byene i Juda og innbyggerne i Jerusalem gå og rope til gudene som de brenner røkelse for, men de skal ikke kunne frelse dem i deres nød.

Then shall the cities of Judah and inhabitants of usalem go, and cry unto the gods unto whom they offer incense: but they shall not save them at all in the time of their trouble.

For like mange som byene dine, så mange var dine guder, Juda. Og like mange som gatene i Jerusalem, så mange altere satte dere opp til den skamfulle avgud, altere for å brenne røkelse til Ba'al.

For according to the number of thy cities were thy gods, O Judah; and according to the number of the streets of usalem have ye set up altars to that shameful thing, even altars to burn incense unto Baal.

Derfor, be ikke for dette folket, løft ikke opp et rop eller en bønn for dem, for jeg vil ikke høre dem når de roper til meg i sin nød.

Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up a cry or prayer for them: for I will not hear them in the time that they cry unto me for their trouble.

Hva har min elskede å gjøre i mitt hus, når hun har gjort ondskap med mange? Og det hellige kjød er fjernet fra deg. Når du gjør ondt, da gleder du deg.

What hath my beloved to do in mine house, seeing she hath wrought lewdness with many, and the holy flesh is passed from thee? when thou doest evil, then thou rejoicest.

Herren kalte ditt navn: Et grønt oliventre, vakkert og fruktbart. Men med lyden av en stor oppstand tente han ild på det, og grenene ble brutt av.

The LORD called thy name, A green olive tree, fair, and of goodly fruit: with the noise of a great tumult he hath kindled fire upon it, and the branches of it are broken.

For Herren, hærskarenes Gud, som plantet deg, har erklært ulykke mot deg for det onde som Israels hus og Judas hus har gjort mot seg selv for å vekke min harme ved å brenne røkelse til Ba'al.

For the LORD of hosts, that planted thee, hath pronounced evil against thee, for the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have done against themselves to provoke me to anger in offering incense unto Baal.

Og Herren har gitt meg kjennskap til dette, og jeg vet det: Da viste du meg deres gjerninger.

And the LORD hath given me knowledge of it, and I know it: then thou shewedst me their doings.

Men jeg var som et tamt lam som føres til slakting; og jeg visste ikke at de hadde planlagt onde planer mot meg, og sa: La oss ødelegge treet med dets frukt, la oss avskjære ham fra de levendes land, så hans navn ikke mer blir husket.

But I was like a lamb or an ox that is brought to the slaughter; and I knew not that they had devised devices against me, saying, Let us destroy the tree with the fruit thereof, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.

Men, Herre, hærskarenes Gud, som dømmer rettferdig, som prøver hjerter og sinn, la meg se din hevn over dem, for til deg har jeg lagt frem min sak.

But, O LORD of hosts, that judgest righteously, that triest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for unto thee have I revealed my cause.

Derfor sier Herren om mennene i Anatot som søker ditt liv og sier: Profeter ikke i Herrens navn, ellers vil du dø for vår hånd:

Therefore thus saith the LORD of the men of Anathoth, that seek thy life, saying, Prophesy not in the name of the LORD, that thou die not by our hand:

Derfor sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Se, jeg vil straffe dem: De unge mennene skal dø ved sverdet; deres sønner og døtre skal dø av hungersnød.

Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, I will punish them: the young men shall die by the sword; their sons and their daughters shall die by famine:

Og det skal ikke være noen rest av dem, for jeg vil bringe ulykke over mennene i Anatot, i året for deres straff.

And there shall be no remnant of them: for I will bring evil upon the men of Anathoth, even the year of their visitation.
