The word that came to emiah concerning all the people of Judah in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that was the first year of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon;

Det som Jeremia, profeten, talte til hele Juda-folket og alle innbyggerne i Jerusalem, sa:

The which emiah the prophet spake unto all the people of Judah, and to all the inhabitants of usalem, saying,

Fra det trettende året av Josia, sønn av Amon, konge av Juda, og til denne dag, altså det tjuetredje året, har Herrens ord kommet til meg. Jeg har talt til dere, stått tidlig opp og talt, men dere har ikke lyttet.

From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, even unto this day, that is the three and twentieth year, the word of the LORD hath come unto me, and I have spoken unto you, rising early and speaking; but ye have not hearkened.

Og Herren har sendt til dere alle sine tjenere, profetene, stått tidlig opp og sendt dem, men dere har ikke lyttet eller vendt øret til for å høre.

And the LORD hath sent unto you all his servants the prophets, rising early and sending them; but ye have not hearkened, nor inclined your ear to hear.

De sa: Vend om fra deres onde veier og onde gjerninger, og bli boende i det landet som Herren har gitt dere og deres fedre for alltid.

They said, Turn ye again now every one from his evil way, and from the evil of your doings, and dwell in the land that the LORD hath given unto you and to your fathers for ever and ever:

Gå ikke etter andre guder for å tjene dem og tilbe dem, og tirre meg ikke til vrede med deres henders verk, så skal jeg ikke skade dere.

And go not after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, and provoke me not to anger with the works of your hands; and I will do you no hurt.

Men dere har ikke lyttet til meg, sier Herren, for å tirre meg til vrede med deres henders verk, til skade for dere selv.

Yet ye have not hearkened unto me, saith the LORD; that ye might provoke me to anger with the works of your hands to your own hurt.

Derfor sier Herren over hærskarene: Fordi dere ikke har hørt mine ord,

Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Because ye have not heard my words,

se, jeg vil sende etter alle folkene i nord, sier Herren, og etter Nebukadnesar, kongen av Babylon, min tjener, og føre dem mot dette landet og mot dets innbyggere og mot alle nabonasjoene. Jeg vil gjøre dem til en fullstendig ødeleggelse, gjøre dem til et fryktelig eksempel, og til evigvarende ørkener.

Behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, saith the LORD, and Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against the inhabitants thereof, and against all these nations round about, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and an hissing, and perpetual desolations.

Dessuten vil jeg ta fra dem gleden og frydens stemme, brudgommens og brudens stemme, lyden av kvernsteinene og lyset fra lampene.

Moreover I will take from them the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones, and the light of the candle.

Og hele dette landet skal bli til en ødemark og til forferdelse, og disse nasjonene skal tjene kongen av Babylon i sytti år.

And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.

Og når sytti år er fullført, vil jeg straffe kongen av Babylon og den nasjonen, sier Herren, for deres misgjerning, og kaldeernes land, og gjøre det til evigvarende ødeleggelse.

And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation, saith the LORD, for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual desolations.

Og jeg vil føre over det landet alle mine ord som jeg har talt mot det, alt som er skrevet i denne boken, som Jeremia har profetert mot alle nasjonene.

And I will bring upon that land all my words which I have pronounced against it, even all that is written in this book, which emiah hath prophesied against all the nations.

For many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of them also: and I will recompense them according to their deeds, and according to the works of their own hands.

For thus saith the LORD God of Israel unto me; Take the wine cup of this fury at my hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send thee, to drink it.

Og de skal drikke, og de skal sjangle og bli vanvittige på grunn av sverdet jeg vil sende blant dem.

And they shall drink, and be moved, and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them.

Så tok jeg begeret fra Herrens hånd, og ga alle nasjonene som Herren sendte meg, å drikke av det:

Then took I the cup at the LORD'S hand, and made all the nations to drink, unto whom the LORD had sent me:

Jerusalem og byene i Juda, kongene og lederne der, for å gjøre dem til ødeleggelse, forferdelse, en hvisling og en forbannelse, slik som det er i dag.

To wit, usalem, and the cities of Judah, and the kings thereof, and the princes thereof, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, an hissing, and a curse; as it is this day;

Pharaoh king of Egypt, and his servants, and his princes, and all his people;

And all the mingled people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Azzah, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod,

Edom og Moab og Ammon-barna.

Edom, and Moab, and the children of Ammon,

Og alle kongene i Tyrus, og alle kongene i Sidon, og kongene på øyene som er hinsides havet.

And all the kings of Tyrus, and all the kings of Zidon, and the kings of the isles which are beyond the sea,

Dedan, Tema, Buss og alle dem som har de fjerne hjørnene.

Dedan, and Tema, and Buz, and all that are in the utmost corners,

Og alle araberkongene, og alle kongene over de blandede folkene som bor i ørkenen.

And all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of the mingled people that dwell in the desert,

Og alle kongene i Simri, og alle kongene i Elam, og alle mederkongene.

And all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of the Medes,

Og alle kongene i nord, både nære og fjerne, hver og en, og alle kongerikene i verden som er på jordens overflate. Og kongen av Sjesjak skal drikke etter dem.

And all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another, and all the kingdoms of the world, which are upon the face of the earth: and the king of Sheshach shall drink after them.

Si derfor til dem: Så sier Herren over hærskarene, Israels Gud: Drikk, bli beruset, kast opp, fall ned og reis dere ikke mer, på grunn av sverdet som jeg vil sende blant dere.

Therefore thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Drink ye, and be drunken, and spue, and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you.

Og hvis de nekter å ta begeret fra din hånd for å drikke, skal du si til dem: Så sier Herren over hærskarene: Dere skal visselig drikke.

And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup at thine hand to drink, then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Ye shall certainly drink.

For se, jeg begynner å sende ulykke over byen som bærer mitt navn, og skulle dere være helt ustraffet? Dere skal ikke bli ustraffet, for jeg kaller på sverdet over alle jordens innbyggere, sier Herren over hærskarene.

For, lo, I begin to bring evil on the city which is called by my name, and should ye be utterly unpunished? Ye shall not be unpunished: for I will call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, saith the LORD of hosts.

Derfor skal du profetere mot dem alle disse ordene og si til dem: Herren skal brøle fra det høye og la sin røst lyde fra sin hellige bolig; han skal brøle kraftig over sin bolig; han skal gi et rop, som dem som tråkker druene, over alle jordens innbyggere.

Therefore prophesy thou against them all these words, and say unto them, The LORD shall roar from on high, and utter his voice from his holy habitation; he shall mightily roar upon his habitation; he shall give a shout, as they that tread the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth.

Det skal lyde et brak til jordens ender; for Herren har en sak mot nasjonene, han vil dømme alt kjød; han vil overgi de onde til sverdet, sier Herren.

A noise shall come even to the ends of the earth; for the LORD hath a controversy with the nations, he will plead with all flesh; he will give them that are wicked to the sword, saith the LORD.

Så sier Herren over hærskarene: Se, ulykken skal gå fra nasjon til nasjon, og en stor storm skal reise seg fra jordens ytterste grenser.

Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth.

Og på den dagen skal dem som er drept av Herren, ligge fra den ene enden av jorden til den andre enden av jorden. De skal ikke bli sørget over, verken samlet eller begravet; de skal ligge som gjødsel på bakken.

And the slain of the LORD shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth: they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be dung upon the ground.

Hy bak, hyrder, og rop; veltes i asken, dere ledere av hjorden, for dagene av deres slakt og adspredelse er kommet; dere skal falle som et dyrket kar.

Howl, ye shepherds, and cry; and wallow yourselves in the ashes, ye principal of the flock: for the days of your slaughter and of your dispersions are accomplished; and ye shall fall like a pleasant vessel.

Hyrdene skal ikke ha noe sted å flykte til, heller ikke lederne av hjorden.

And the shepherds shall have no way to flee, nor the principal of the flock to escape.

Ropet fra hyrdene og hylingen fra lederne av hjorden skal høres, for Herren har herjet deres beite.

A voice of the cry of the shepherds, and an howling of the principal of the flock, shall be heard: for the LORD hath spoiled their pasture.

Og de fredelige beiter er ødelagt på grunn av Herrens voldsomme vrede.

And the peaceable habitations are cut down because of the fierce anger of the LORD.

Han har forlatt sin skjulested som en løve; for deres land er blitt en ødemark på grunn av den undertrykkerens grusomhet og på grunn av hans fryktelige vrede.

He hath forsaken his covert, as the lion: for their land is desolate because of the fierceness of the oppressor, and because of his fierce anger.
