I begynnelsen av Jehoiakims regjeringstid, sønn av Josjia, konge av Juda, kom dette ordet fra Herren:

In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah came this word from the LORD, saying,

Så sier Herren: Stå i forgården til Herrens hus, og tal til alle byene i Juda som kommer for å tilbe i Herrens hus, alle de ord jeg befaler deg å tale til dem; utelat ikke et eneste ord.

Thus saith the LORD; Stand in the court of the LORD'S house, and speak unto all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in the LORD'S house, all the words that I command thee to speak unto them; diminish not a word:

Kanskje vil de høre, og alle vil vende om fra sin onde vei, slik at jeg kan angre på det onde jeg har tenkt å gjøre mot dem på grunn av deres onde gjerninger.

If so be they will hearken, and turn every man from his evil way, that I may repent me of the evil, which I purpose to do unto them because of the evil of their doings.

Og du skal si til dem: Så sier Herren: Hvis dere ikke vil lytte til meg, til å følge min lov, som jeg har lagt fram for dere,

And thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD; If ye will not hearken to me, to walk in my law, which I have set before you,

for å høre på ordene fra mine tjenere, profetene, som jeg sendte til dere, både tidlig og vedvarende, men dere har ikke lyttet,

To hearken to the words of my servants the prophets, whom I sent unto you, both rising up early, and sending them, but ye have not hearkened;

da vil jeg gjøre dette huset som Silo, og gjøre denne byen til en forbannelse for alle nasjonene på jorden.

Then will I make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.

Prestene og profetene og hele folket hørte Jeremias tale disse ordene i Herrens hus.

So the priests and the prophets and all the people heard emiah speaking these words in the house of the LORD.

Da Jeremias hadde avsluttet alt Herren hadde befalt ham å tale til hele folket, tok prestene og profetene og hele folket tak i ham og sa: Du må dø.

Now it came to pass, when emiah had made an end of speaking all that the LORD had commanded him to speak unto all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people took him, saying, Thou shalt surely die.

Hvorfor har du profetert i Herrens navn, og sagt: Dette huset skal bli som Silo, og denne byen skal bli øde uten beboere? Og hele folket samlet seg mot Jeremias i Herrens hus.

Why hast thou prophesied in the name of the LORD, saying, This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate without an inhabitant? And all the people were gathered against emiah in the house of the LORD.

Da fyrstene i Juda hørte disse tingene, kom de opp fra kongens hus til Herrens hus, og satte seg ved inngangen til den nye porten av Herrens hus.

When the princes of Judah heard these things, then they came up from the king's house unto the house of the LORD, and sat down in the entry of the new gate of the LORD'S house.

Da talte prestene og profetene til fyrstene og hele folket og sa: Denne mannen fortjener å dø, for han har profetert mot denne byen, som dere har hørt med deres egne ører.

Then spake the priests and the prophets unto the princes and to all the people, saying, This man is worthy to die; for he hath prophesied against this city, as ye have heard with your ears.

Da sa Jeremias til alle fyrstene og til hele folket: Herren sendte meg for å profetere mot dette huset og mot denne byen alle de ordene dere har hørt.

Then spake emiah unto all the princes and to all the people, saying, The LORD sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that ye have heard.

Forbedre derfor deres veier og deres gjerninger, og lytt til Herrens, deres Guds, røst; så vil Herren angre på det onde han har uttalt mot dere.

Therefore now amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the LORD your God; and the LORD will repent him of the evil that he hath pronounced against you.

Når det gjelder meg, se, jeg er i deres hender: gjør med meg som dere synes er godt og rett.

As for me, behold, I am in your hand: do with me as seemeth good and meet unto you.

Men vær sikker på at hvis dere dreper meg, vil dere føre uskyldig blod over dere selv, over denne byen og over dens innbyggere; for i sannhet har Herren sendt meg til dere for å tale alle disse ordene til deres ører.

But know ye for certain, that if ye put me to death, ye shall surely bring innocent blood upon yourselves, and upon this city, and upon the inhabitants thereof: for of a truth the LORD hath sent me unto you to speak all these words in your ears.

Da sa fyrstene og hele folket til prestene og profetene: Denne mannen fortjener ikke å dø; for han har talt til oss i navnet til Herren vår Gud.

Then said the princes and all the people unto the priests and to the prophets; This man is not worthy to die: for he hath spoken to us in the name of the LORD our God.

Deretter sto noen av de eldste i landet opp og talte til hele folkeforsamlingen,

Then rose up certain of the elders of the land, and spake to all the assembly of the people, saying,

Mika fra Moresjet profeterte i dagene til Hiskia, kongen av Juda, og talte til hele folket i Juda og sa: Så sier Herren, Allhærs Gud: Sion skal pløyes som en mark, og Jerusalem skal bli til ruiner, og tempelhøyden som en skog.

Micah the Morasthite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and spake to all the people of Judah, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Zion shall be plowed like a field, and usalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.

Drepte Hiskia, kongen av Juda, og hele Juda ham? Fryktet han ikke Herren, og bønnfalt han ikke Herren, slik at Herren angret det onde han hadde uttalt mot dem? På samme måte kan vi pådra oss stor ondskap mot vår egen sjel.

Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him at all to death? did he not fear the LORD, and besought the LORD, and the LORD repented him of the evil which he had pronounced against them? Thus might we procure great evil against our souls.

Det var også en mann som profeterte i Herrens navn, Uria, sønn av Shemaja fra Kirjat-Jearim; han profeterte mot denne byen og dette landet i samsvar med alle ordene til Jeremias.

And there was also a man that prophesied in the name of the LORD, Urijah the son of Shemaiah of Kirjath-jearim, who prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the words of emiah:

Da kong Jojakim, med alle sine mektige menn og alle fyrstene, hørte hans ord, prøvde kongen å drepe ham; men da Uria hørte det, ble han redd og flyktet til Egypt.

And when Jehoiakim the king, with all his mighty men, and all the princes, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death: but when Urijah heard it, he was afraid, and fled, and went into Egypt;

Kong Jojakim sendte menn til Egypt, nemlig Elnatan, sønn av Akbor, og noen andre menn med ham til Egypt.

And Jehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt, namely, Elnathan the son of Achbor, and certain men with him into Egypt.

De hentet Uria ut fra Egypt og brakte ham til kong Jojakim, som slo ham med sverd og kastet liket hans i gravene til de vanlige folk.

And they fetched forth Urijah out of Egypt, and brought him unto Jehoiakim the king; who slew him with the sword, and cast his dead body into the graves of the common people.

Likevel var Ahikams, sønn av Sjafan, hånd med Jeremias, for at de ikke skulle gi ham i hendene på folket for å drepe ham.

Nevertheless the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with emiah, that they should not give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.
