I begynnelsen av regjeringstiden til Jojakim, sønn av Josjia, kongen av Juda, kom dette ordet til Jeremia fra Herren:

In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah came this word unto emiah from the LORD, saying,

"Så sier Herren til meg: Lag lenker og åk, og legg dem på nakken din.

Thus saith the LORD to me; Make thee bonds and yokes, and put them upon thy neck,

Og send dem til kongen av Edom, kongen av Moab, kongen av Ammonittene, kongen av Tyrus og kongen av Sidon, gjennom sendebudene som kommer til Jerusalem til Sidkia, kongen av Juda.

And send them to the king of Edom, and to the king of Moab, and to the king of the Ammonites, and to the king of Tyrus, and to the king of Zidon, by the hand of the messengers which come to usalem unto Zedekiah king of Judah;

Og be dem si til sine herrer: Så sier Herren over hærskarene, Israels Gud: Slik skal dere si til deres herrer:

And command them to say unto their masters, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Thus shall ye say unto your masters;

"Jeg har skapt jorden, menneskene og dyrene som er på jorden, ved min store kraft og med min utstrakte arm, og jeg har gitt den til dem som det synes meg rett."

I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are upon the ground, by my great power and by my outstretched arm, and have given it unto whom it seemed meet unto me.

Og nå har jeg gitt alle disse landene i hendene på Nebukadnesar, kongen av Babylon, min tjener. Jeg har også gitt ham markens dyr til å tjene ham.

And now have I given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant; and the beasts of the field have I given him also to serve him.

Og alle folk skal tjene ham, og hans sønn, og hans sønnesønn, inntil tiden for hans land kommer: da skal mange folkeslag og store konger gjøre ham til deres tjener.

And all nations shall serve him, and his son, and his son's son, until the very time of his land come: and then many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of him.

Og det skal skje at det folket og det kongeriket som ikke vil tjene Nebukadnesar, kongen av Babylon, og som ikke vil bøye sin nakke under åket til kongen av Babylon, det folket vil jeg straffe, sier Herren, med sverdet, med hungersnøden og med pesten, inntil jeg har ødelagt dem ved hans hånd.

And it shall come to pass, that the nation and kingdom which will not serve the same Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, that nation will I punish, saith the LORD, with the sword, and with the famine, and with the pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand.

Derfor skal dere ikke lytte til deres profeter, heller ikke til deres spåmenn, eller deres drømmere, eller deres trollmenn, eller deres magikere, som sier til dere: Dere skal ikke tjene kongen av Babylon.

Therefore hearken not ye to your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreamers, nor to your enchanters, nor to your sorcerers, which speak unto you, saying, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon:

For de profeterer løgn til dere, for å få dere bort fra deres jord; og at jeg skulle drive dere ut, og dere skulle gå til grunne.

For they prophesy a lie unto you, to remove you far from your land; and that I should drive you out, and ye should perish.

Men de folkeslag som bøyer sin nakke under åket til kongen av Babylon, og tjener ham, dem vil jeg la bli igjen på deres egen jord, sier Herren, og de skal dyrke den og bo der.

But the nations that bring their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him, those will I let remain still in their own land, saith the LORD; and they shall till it, and dwell therein.

Jeg talte også til Sedekias, kongen av Juda, i samsvar med alle disse ordene og sa: Bøy nakken under åket til kongen av Babylon, og tjen ham og hans folk, og lev.

I spake also to Zedekiah king of Judah according to all these words, saying, Bring your necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him and his people, and live.

Hvorfor vil du dø, du og ditt folk, ved sverdet, ved hungersnøden, og ved pesten, slik Herren har talt imot det folket som ikke vil tjene kongen av Babylon?

Why will ye die, thou and thy people, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, as the LORD hath spoken against the nation that will not serve the king of Babylon?

Derfor skal dere ikke lytte til profetenes ord som taler til dere og sier: Dere skal ikke tjene kongen av Babylon. For de profeterer løgn til dere.

Therefore hearken not unto the words of the prophets that speak unto you, saying, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon: for they prophesy a lie unto you.

For jeg har ikke sendt dem, sier Herren, men likevel profeterer de løgn i mitt navn, for at jeg skal drive dere ut, og dere skal gå til grunne, dere og profetene som profeterer til dere.

For I have not sent them, saith the LORD, yet they prophesy a lie in my name; that I might drive you out, and that ye might perish, ye, and the prophets that prophesy unto you.

Også talte jeg til prestene og til hele dette folket og sa: Så sier Herren: Hør ikke på deres profeters ord som profeterer til dere og sier: Se, Herrens hus' kar skal snart bringes tilbake fra Babylon. For de profeterer løgn til dere.

Also I spake to the priests and to all this people, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Hearken not to the words of your prophets that prophesy unto you, saying, Behold, the vessels of the LORD'S house shall now shortly be brought again from Babylon: for they prophesy a lie unto you.

Lytt ikke til dem, tjen kongen av Babylon, og lev; hvorfor skulle denne byen bli lagt øde?

Hearken not unto them; serve the king of Babylon, and live: wherefore should this city be laid waste?

Men hvis de er profeter, og hvis Herrens ord er med dem, la dem da be for Herrens hærskarer, så de karene som er igjen i Herrens hus, og i kongen av Judas hus, og i Jerusalem, ikke går til Babylon.

But if they be prophets, and if the word of the LORD be with them, let them now make intercession to the LORD of hosts, that the vessels which are left in the house of the LORD, and in the house of the king of Judah, and at usalem, go not to Babylon.

For så sier Herren over hærskarene angående søylene, og angående havet, og angående basene, og angående det som er igjen av karene i denne byen,

For thus saith the LORD of hosts concerning the pillars, and concerning the sea, and concerning the bases, and concerning the residue of the vessels that remain in this city,

Som Nebukadnesar, kongen av Babylon, ikke tok med seg da han førte Jekonja, sønn av Jojakim, kongen av Juda, i fangenskap fra Jerusalem til Babylon, sammen med alle de edle i Juda og Jerusalem;

Which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took not, when he carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah from usalem to Babylon, and all the nobles of Judah and usalem;

Ja, så sier Herren over hærskarene, Israels Gud, angående karene som er igjen i Herrens hus, og i kongen av Judas hus, og i Jerusalem:

Yea, thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning the vessels that remain in the house of the LORD, and in the house of the king of Judah and of usalem;

De skal føres til Babylon, og der skal de være til den dagen jeg besøker dem, sier Herren. Da vil jeg bringe dem opp og gjenopprette dem til dette stedet.

They shall be carried to Babylon, and there shall they be until the day that I visit them, saith the LORD; then will I bring them up, and restore them to this place.
