Ordet som kom til Jeremia fra Herren i Josias sønn Jojakims dager, Juda-kongen, som sa,

The word which came unto emiah from the LORD in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, saying,

Gå til Rechabittenes hus, og tal til dem. Ta dem med til Herrens hus, til et av kamrene, og gi dem vin å drikke.

Go unto the house of the Rechabites, and speak unto them, and bring them into the house of the LORD, into one of the chambers, and give them wine to drink.

Da tok jeg Ja’asanjas sønn Jemaja, sønn av Habasinja, og hans brødre, og alle hans sønner, og hele Rechabittenes hus.

Then I took Jaazaniah the son of emiah, the son of Habaziniah, and his brethren, and all his sons, and the whole house of the Rechabites;

Og jeg førte dem inn i Herrens hus, inn i kammeret til sønnene av Hanan, Igdaljas sønn, en Guds mann, som var ved siden av kammeret til fyrstene, over kammeret til Maasejas sønn Shallum, dørvakten.

And I brought them into the house of the LORD, into the chamber of the sons of Hanan, the son of Igdaliah, a man of God, which was by the chamber of the princes, which was above the chamber of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the door:

Og jeg satte fram for Rechabittenes hus krukker fulle av vin, og kopper, og jeg sa til dem: Drikk vin.

And I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites pots full of wine, and cups, and I said unto them, Drink ye wine.

Men de sa: Vi drikker ikke vin, for Jonadab, Rechabs sønn, vår far, befalte oss og sa: Dere skal ikke drikke vin, verken dere eller deres sønner, for alltid.

But they said, We will drink no wine: for Jonadab the son of Rechab our father commanded us, saying, Ye shall drink no wine, neither ye, nor your sons for ever:

Dere skal heller ikke bygge hus, så eller plante vingårder, eller eie noen: men hele deres liv skal dere bo i telt, slik at dere kan leve lenge i det landet hvor dere er fremmede.

Neither shall ye build house, nor sow seed, nor plant vineyard, nor have any: but all your days ye shall dwell in tents; that ye may live many days in the land where ye be strangers.

Således har vi adlydt Jonadab, Rechabs sønn, vår fars røst, i alt han har befalt oss, å ikke drikke vin alle våre dager, vi, våre koner, våre sønner og våre døtre.

Thus have we obeyed the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab our father in all that he hath charged us, to drink no wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons, nor our daughters;

Vi har heller ikke bygget hus for å bo i, og har ingen vingård, åker eller frø.

Nor to build houses for us to dwell in: neither have we vineyard, nor field, nor seed:

Men vi har bodd i telt og vært lydige i alt det Jonadab, vår far, har beordret oss.

But we have dwelt in tents, and have obeyed, and done according to all that Jonadab our father commanded us.

Men da Nebukadnesar, Babels konge, kom opp mot landet, sa vi: Kom, la oss gå inn i Jerusalem for frykt for kaldeernes hær og for syriernes hær. Så vi bor i Jerusalem.

But it came to pass, when Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came up into the land, that we said, Come, and let us go to usalem for fear of the army of the Chaldeans, and for fear of the army of the Syrians: so we dwell at usalem.

Da kom Herrens ord til Jeremia, som sa,

Then came the word of the LORD unto emiah, saying,

Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: Gå og tal til mennene fra Juda og innbyggerne i Jerusalem: Vil dere ikke ta imot rettledning og lytte til mine ord? sier Herren.

Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Go and tell the men of Judah and the inhabitants of usalem, Will ye not receive instruction to hearken to my words? saith the LORD.

Jonadabs, Rechabs sønns, ord, der han befalte sine sønner å ikke drikke vin, er opprettholdt; til denne dag drikker de ingen, men adlyder sin fars bud. Likevel har jeg talt til dere, tidlig og ofte; men dere har ikke lyttet til meg.

The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, that he commanded his sons not to drink wine, are performed; for unto this day they drink none, but obey their father's commandment: notwithstanding I have spoken unto you, rising early and speaking; but ye hearkened not unto me.

Jeg har også sendt til dere alle mine tjenere, profetene, tidlig og ofte, og sagt: Vend tilbake, hver og en fra sin onde vei og forbedre deres gjerninger, og følg ikke andre guder for å tjene dem; da skal dere bo i landet som jeg har gitt dere og deres fedre. Men dere har ikke vendt øret, heller ikke lyttet til meg.

I have sent also unto you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return ye now every man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and go not after other gods to serve them, and ye shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but ye have not inclined your ear, nor hearkened unto me.

Fordi Jonadabs, Rechabs sønns, ord har blitt fulgt, som han befalte dem, men dette folket har ikke lyttet til meg.

Because the sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their father, which he commanded them; but this people hath not hearkened unto me:

Derfor sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: Se, jeg vil bringe over Juda og over alle Jerusalems innbyggere alt det onde som jeg har uttalt mot dem: fordi jeg har talt til dem, men de har ikke hørt; og jeg har kalt dem, men de har ikke svart.

Therefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon Judah and upon all the inhabitants of usalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them: because I have spoken unto them, but they have not heard; and I have called unto them, but they have not answered.

Og Jeremia sa til Rechabittenes hus: Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: Fordi dere har adlydt Jonadabs, deres fars, bud, og holdt alle hans forskrifter og gjort alt det han har befalt dere,

And emiah said unto the house of the Rechabites, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Because ye have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according unto all that he hath commanded you:

Derfor sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: Jonadab, Rechabs sønn, skal alltid ha en mann som står for mitt ansikt.

Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not want a man to stand before me for ever.
