Det skjedde i det fjerde året av Jojakim, sønn av Josia, kongen av Juda, at dette ordet kom til Jeremias fra Herren, som sa:

And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that this word came unto emiah from the LORD, saying,

Ta en bokrull og skriv ned alle ordene jeg har talt til deg mot Israel, mot Juda og mot alle folkene, fra den dagen jeg begynte å tale til deg, fra Josias dager til denne dag.

Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day.

Det kan hende at Judas hus vil høre om alt det onde jeg har til hensikt å gjøre mot dem, så de vender tilbake, hver mann fra sin onde vei, og jeg kan tilgi deres misgjerning og deres synd.

It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.

Da kalte Jeremias Baruk, sønn av Nerija, og Baruk skrev ned alle Herrens ord på bokrullen, slik Jeremias hadde talt dem til ham.

Then emiah called Baruch the son of Neriah: and Baruch wrote from the mouth of emiah all the words of the LORD, which he had spoken unto him, upon a roll of a book.

Og Jeremias befalte Baruk, og sa: 'Jeg er hindret fra å gå inn i Herrens hus.'

And emiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I cannot go into the house of the LORD:

Gå derfor, og les fra bokrullen som du har skrevet etter mine ord, Herrens ord, høyt for folket i Herrens hus på fastedagen, og du skal også lese dem for hele Juda som kommer fra byene sine.

Therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of the LORD in the ears of the people in the LORD'S house upon the fasting day: and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities.

Kanskje vil de be om miskunnhet fra Herren og vende tilbake, hver fra sin onde vei, for stor er den vrede og harme som Herren har uttalt mot dette folket.

It may be they will present their supplication before the LORD, and will return every one from his evil way: for great is the anger and the fury that the LORD hath pronounced against this people.

Og Baruk, sønn av Nerija, gjorde alt som profeten Jeremias befalte ham. Han leste Herrens ord fra bokrullen i Herrens hus.

And Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that emiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book the words of the LORD in the LORD'S house.

Og det skjedde i det femte året av Jojakim, sønn av Josia, kongen av Juda, i den niende måneden, at de bekjentgjorde en faste for Herren for hele folket i Jerusalem, og for hele folket som kom fra byene i Juda til Jerusalem.

And it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, in the ninth month, that they proclaimed a fast before the LORD to all the people in usalem, and to all the people that came from the cities of Judah unto usalem.

Da leste Baruk fra bokrullen i Herrens hus, i kammeret til Gemarja, sønn av Sjafan, skriveren, i øvre forgård, ved inngangen til den nye porten i Herrens hus, for ørene til hele folket.

Then read Baruch in the book the words of emiah in the house of the LORD, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the scribe, in the higher court, at the entry of the new gate of the LORD'S house, in the ears of all the people.

Da Mikaia, sønn av Gemarja, sønn av Sjafan, hadde hørt alle Herrens ord fra bokrullen,

When Michaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, had heard out of the book all the words of the LORD,

gikk han ned til kongens hus, til skriverens kammer. Se, der satt alle fyrstene, Elisjama, skriveren, og Delaja, sønn av Sjemaia, og Elnatan, sønn av Akbor, og Gemarja, sønn av Sjafan, og Sidkia, sønn av Hananja, og alle fyrstene.

Then he went down into the king's house, into the scribe's chamber: and, lo, all the princes sat there, even Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes.

Da fortalte Mikaia dem alle ordene han hadde hørt da Baruk leste boken i folks ører.

Then Michaiah declared unto them all the words that he had heard, when Baruch read the book in the ears of the people.

Så sendte alle fyrstene Jehudi, sønn av Netanja, sønn av Sjelemia, sønn av Kusji, til Baruk og sa: 'Ta bokrullen med den teksten du leste opp for folket og kom hit.' Så Baruk, sønn av Nerija, tok bokrullen og kom til dem.

Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, unto Baruch, saying, Take in thine hand the roll wherein thou hast read in the ears of the people, and come. So Baruch the son of Neriah took the roll in his hand, and came unto them.

Og de sa til ham: 'Sett deg ned, og les den for oss.' Så Baruk leste opp for dem.

And they said unto him, Sit down now, and read it in our ears. So Baruch read it in their ears.

Da de hadde hørt alle ordene, ble de redde og så på hverandre, og sa til Baruk: 'Vi må fortelle kongen alle disse ordene.'

Now it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, they were afraid both one and other, and said unto Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words.

De spurte da Baruk: 'Fortell oss, hvordan skrev du ned alle disse ordene som han sa?'

And they asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How didst thou write all these words at his mouth?

Da svarte Baruk dem: 'Han sa alle disse ordene til meg, og jeg skrev dem ned med blekk i boken.'

Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words unto me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book.

Så sa fyrstene til Baruk: 'Gå og gjem deg, du og Jeremias, og la ingen vite hvor dere er.'

Then said the princes unto Baruch, Go, hide thee, thou and emiah; and let no man know where ye be.

Deretter gikk de inn til kongen i gården, men de la bokrullen i Elisjamas skriverens kammer; og de fortalte kongen alle ordene.

And they went in to the king into the court, but they laid up the roll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and told all the words in the ears of the king.

Så sendte kongen Jehudi til å hente bokrullen, og han tok den fra Elisjamas skriverens kammer. Jehudi leste den så for kongen og for alle fyrstene som sto ved siden av kongen.

So the king sent Jehudi to fetch the roll: and he took it out of Elishama the scribe's chamber. And Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes which stood beside the king.

Kongen satt i vinterhuset i den niende måneden, og det var en ild på peisen foran ham.

Now the king sat in the winterhouse in the ninth month: and there was a fire on the hearth burning before him.

Da Jehudi hadde lest tre eller fire blad, skar kongen dem av med en kniv og kastet dem i ilden på peisen, til hele bokrullen var oppbrent i ilden på peisen.

And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth.

Men de følte ingen frykt og rev ikke klærne sine, verken kongen eller noen av hans tjenere som hørte alle disse ordene.

Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words.

Likevel hadde Elnatan, Delaja og Gemarja bedt kongen om ikke å brenne bokrullen, men han hørte ikke på dem.

Nevertheless Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had made intercession to the king that he would not burn the roll: but he would not hear them.

Kongen befalte Jerahmeel, sønn av Hammelek, og Seraja, sønn av Azriel, og Sjelemia, sønn av Abdeel, å arrestere Baruk skrivaren og profeten Jeremias; men Herren hadde skjult dem.

But the king commanded ahmeel the son of Hammelech, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and emiah the prophet: but the LORD hid them.

Da kom Herrens ord til Jeremias etter at kongen hadde brent bokrullen og ordene som Baruk hadde skrevet ned etter Jeremias' munn, og sa:

Then the word of the LORD came to emiah, after that the king had burned the roll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of emiah, saying,

Ta igjen en annen bokrull, og skriv i den alle de tidligere ordene som var i den første bokrullen, som Jojakim kongen av Juda har brent.

Take thee again another roll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah hath burned.

Og du skal si til Jojakim, kongen av Juda: 'Så sier Herren: Du har brent denne bokrullen og sagt: Hvorfor har du skrevet at Babylons konge virkelig skal komme og ødelegge dette landet og gjøre ende på mennesker og dyr her?'

And thou shalt say to Jehoiakim king of Judah, Thus saith the LORD; Thou hast burned this roll, saying, Why hast thou written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from thence man and beast?

Derfor sier Herren om Jojakim, kongen av Juda: 'Han vil ikke ha noen etterkommere som skal sitte på Davids trone, og hans døde kropp skal kastes ut på dagen til heten og om natten til frosten.'

Therefore thus saith the LORD of Jehoiakim king of Judah; He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David: and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost.

Jeg vil straffe ham, hans etterkommere og tjenerne hans for deres misgjerning, og jeg vil bringe over dem og innbyggerne i Jerusalem og mennene i Juda alt det onde jeg har uttalt mot dem, fordi de ikke ville lytte.

And I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of usalem, and upon the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them; but they hearkened not.

Da tok Jeremias en annen bokrull og ga den til Baruk, sønn av Nerija, skriveren, som skrev ned på denne alle ordene i boken som Jojakim, kongen av Juda, hadde brent opp i ilden, og mange lignende ord ble lagt til.

Then took emiah another roll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah; who wrote therein from the mouth of emiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire: and there were added besides unto them many like words.
