The word that came to emiah from the LORD, after that Nebuzar-adan the captain of the guard had let him go from Ramah, when he had taken him being bound in chains among all that were carried away captive of usalem and Judah, which were carried away captive unto Babylon.

Kommandanten for livvakten tok Jeremia til side og sa til ham: Herren din Gud har forkynt denne ulykken over dette stedet.

And the captain of the guard took emiah, and said unto him, The LORD thy God hath pronounced this evil upon this place.

Nå har Herren ført den over dere, og gjort som han har sagt: fordi dere har syndet mot Herren og ikke har adlytt hans røst, derfor har dette hendt dere.

Now the LORD hath brought it, and done according as he hath said: because ye have sinned against the LORD, and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing is come upon you.

Og nå, se, jeg løser deg i dag fra lenkene som var på dine hender. Hvis det virker godt for deg å komme med meg til Babylon, så kom; og jeg vil ta vare på deg: men hvis det ikke virker godt for deg å komme med meg til Babylon, så la være: se, hele landet ligger foran deg; der det synes godt og passende for deg å dra, dra dit.

And now, behold, I loose thee this day from the chains which were upon thine hand. If it seem good unto thee to come with me into Babylon, come; and I will look well unto thee: but if it seem ill unto thee to come with me into Babylon, forbear: behold, all the land is before thee: whither it seemeth good and convenient for thee to go, thither go.

Mens han ennå ikke hadde dratt tilbake, sa han: Gå også tilbake til Gedalja, sønn av Ahikam, sønn av Sjafan, som kongen av Babylon har gjort til guvernør over byene i Juda, og bli hos ham blant folket: eller gå hvor det synes passende for deg å dra. Så ga kommandanten for livvakten ham mat og en belønning, og lot ham gå.

Now while he was not yet gone back, he said, Go back also to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon hath made governor over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the people: or go wheresoever it seemeth convenient unto thee to go. So the captain of the guard gave him victuals and a reward, and let him go.

Da dro Jeremia til Gedalja, sønn av Ahikam, til Mispa; og bodde hos ham blant folket som var igjen i landet.

Then went emiah unto Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah; and dwelt with him among the people that were left in the land.

Da alle kommandantene for styrkene som var på markene, de og deres menn, hørte at kongen av Babylon hadde gjort Gedalja, sønn av Ahikam, til guvernør i landet, og hadde overlatt til ham menn, kvinner, barn og de fattige i landet, av dem som ikke ble ført bort til Babylon;

Now when all the captains of the forces which were in the fields, even they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam governor in the land, and had committed unto him men, and women, and children, and of the poor of the land, of them that were not carried away captive to Babylon;

Da kom de til Gedalja i Mispa, nemlig Ismael, sønn av Netanja, og Johanan og Jonatan, sønner av Kareah, og Seraja, sønn av Tanhumet, og sønnene av Efai fra Netofa, og Jezanaja, sønn av Maakatitten, de og deres menn.

Then they came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, even Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan the sons of Kareah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah the son of a Maachathite, they and their men.

Og Gedalja, sønn av Ahikam, sønn av Sjafan, sverget til dem og deres menn, og sa: Frykt ikke for å tjene kaldeerne: bli i landet og tjen kongen av Babylon, og det skal gå dere vel.

And Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan sware unto them and to their men, saying, Fear not to serve the Chaldeans: dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you.

For min del vil jeg bli i Mispa for å tjene kaldeerne, som vil komme til oss: men dere, samle inn vin, sommerfrukter og olje, og legg dem i deres beholdere, og bo i byene dere har tatt.

As for me, behold, I will dwell at Mizpah to serve the Chaldeans, which will come unto us: but ye, gather ye wine, and summer fruits, and oil, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that ye have taken.

Likeledes, da alle jødene som var i Moab, blant ammonittene, i Edom, og i alle land hørte at kongen av Babylon hadde latt en rest bli igjen i Juda, og at han hadde satt Gedalja, sønn av Ahikam, sønn av Sjafan, over dem;

Likewise when all the Jews that were in Moab, and among the Ammonites, and in Edom, and that were in all the countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant of Judah, and that he had set over them Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan;

Vendte alle jødene tilbake fra alle stedene hvor de hadde vært drevet, og kom til Juda, til Gedalja, ved Mispa, og samlet mye vin og sommerfrukter.

Even all the Jews returned out of all places whither they were driven, and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah, unto Mizpah, and gathered wine and summer fruits very much.

Dessuten kom Johanan, sønn av Kareah, og alle kommandantene for styrkene som var i markene, til Gedalja ved Mispa,

Moreover Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were in the fields, came to Gedaliah to Mizpah,

Og sa til ham: Vet du virkelig at Baalis, kongen av ammonittene, har sendt Ismael, sønn av Netanja, for å drepe deg? Men Gedalja, sønn av Ahikam, trodde dem ikke.

And said unto him, Dost thou certainly know that Baalis the king of the Ammonites hath sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to slay thee? But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam believed them not.

Da talte Johanan, sønn av Kareah, til Gedalja i Mispa i hemmelighet og sa: La meg gå, jeg ber deg, og jeg skal drepe Ismael, sønn av Netanja, og ingen vil få vite det: hvorfor skal han drepe deg, så alle jødene som er samlet hos deg skal bli spredt, og resten i Juda gå til grunne?

Then Johanan the son of Kareah spake to Gedaliah in Mizpah secretly, saying, Let me go, I pray thee, and I will slay Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it: wherefore should he slay thee, that all the Jews which are gathered unto thee should be scattered, and the remnant in Judah perish?

Men Gedalja, sønn av Ahikam, sa til Johanan, sønn av Kareah: Du skal ikke gjøre dette; for du taler falsk om Ismael.

But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam said unto Johanan the son of Kareah, Thou shalt not do this thing: for thou speakest falsely of Ishmael.
