Dette er ordet som kom til Jeremia fra Herren, og sa:

The word that came to emiah from the LORD, saying,

Stå i porten til Herrens hus, og forkynn dette budskapet der, og si: Hør Herrens ord, alle dere i Juda, som går inn gjennom disse portene for å tilbe Herren.

Stand in the gate of the LORD'S house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of the LORD, all ye of Judah, that enter in at these gates to worship the LORD.

Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: Forbedre deres veier og handlinger, så vil jeg la dere bo på dette stedet.

Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.

Sett ikke lit til falske ord, som sier: Herrens tempel, Herrens tempel, Herrens tempel er dette.

Trust ye not in lying words, saying, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, are these.

For hvis dere virkelig forbedrer veiene og handlingene deres; hvis dere virkelig utøver rettferdighet mellom en mann og hans neste;

For if ye throughly amend your ways and your doings; if ye throughly execute judgment between a man and his neighbour;

Hvis dere ikke undertrykker den fremmede, den farløse og enken, og ikke utøser uskyldig blod på dette stedet, og ikke følger andre guder til skade for dere selv,

If ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt:

Da vil jeg la dere få bo på dette stedet, i det landet jeg ga til deres fedre, for evig og alltid.

Then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, for ever and ever.

Se, dere stoler på løgnaktige ord som ikke kan gagne.

Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit.

Vil dere stjele, myrde, bryte ekteskapet, sverge falskt, brenne røkelse for Baal, og følge andre guder som dere ikke kjenner til,

Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not;

og så komme og stå foran meg i dette huset, som er kalt med mitt navn, og si: Vi er fridd til å gjøre alle disse styggedommene?

And come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations?

Har dette huset, som er kalt med mitt navn, blitt et røverhule i deres øyne? Se, selv jeg har sett det, sier Herren.

Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, even I have seen it, saith the LORD.

Men gå nå til mitt sted som var i Sjilo, der jeg satte mitt navn først, og se hva jeg gjorde med det på grunn av ondskapen til mitt folk Israel.

But go ye now unto my place which was in Shiloh, where I set my name at the first, and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel.

Og nå, fordi dere har gjort alle disse gjerningene, sier Herren, og jeg talte til dere, ved å stå opp tidlig og tale, men dere hørte ikke; og jeg kalte dere, men dere svarte ikke;

And now, because ye have done all these works, saith the LORD, and I spake unto you, rising up early and speaking, but ye heard not; and I called you, but ye answered not;

Derfor vil jeg gjøre med dette huset, som er kalt med mitt navn, der dere stoler, og med stedet som jeg ga til dere og deres fedre, som jeg har gjort med Sjilo.

Therefore will I do unto this house, which is called by my name, wherein ye trust, and unto the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I have done to Shiloh.

Og jeg vil støte dere ut av mitt ansikt, slik jeg har støtt ut alle deres brødre, hele Efraims etterkommere.

And I will cast you out of my sight, as I have cast out all your brethren, even the whole seed of Ephraim.

Be derfor ikke for dette folket, løft verken rop eller bønn for dem, eller gå i forbønn for meg: for jeg vil ikke høre deg.

Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me: for I will not hear thee.

Ser du ikke hva de gjør i byene i Juda og på gatene i Jerusalem?

Seest thou not what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of usalem?

Barna samler ved, fedrene tenner ild, og kvinnene knar deigen sin, for å lage kaker for himmelens dronning, og for å helle ut drikkoffer for andre guder, og provosere meg til vrede.

The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.

Provoserer de meg til vrede? sier Herren: Provoserer de ikke seg selv til skam i sine egne ansikter?

Do they provoke me to anger? saith the LORD: do they not provoke themselves to the confusion of their own faces?

Derfor sier Herren Gud: Se, min vrede og min harme skal utøses over dette stedet, over mennesket, dyret, trærne på marken, og frukten på jorden; og det skal brenne, og det skal ikke kunne slukkes.

Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, mine anger and my fury shall be poured out upon this place, upon man, and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched.

Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: Legg deres brennoffer til deres slaktoffere, og spis kjøttet.

Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Put your burnt offerings unto your sacrifices, and eat flesh.

For jeg talte ikke til deres fedre, og ga dem ikke bud den dagen jeg førte dem ut av landet Egypt, om brennoffer eller slaktoffer:

For I spake not unto your fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices:

Men dette befalte jeg dem, og sa: Lyd min røst, så vil jeg være deres Gud, og dere skal være mitt folk: og vandre på alle de veiene jeg har befalt dere, så det kan gå dere vel.

But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.

Men de hørte ikke, ei heller vendte de øret til, men fulgte sine egne onde hjerters råd, og gikk baklengs, ikke forover.

But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward.

Siden den dagen deres fedre gikk ut fra landet Egypt til denne dag, har jeg sendt alle mine tjenere profetene til dere, daglig, tidlig og sendende dem:

Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt unto this day I have even sent unto you all my servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them:

Likevel hørte de ikke på meg, ei heller bøyde de øret, men stivnet nakken: de gjorde verre enn deres fedre.

Yet they hearkened not unto me, nor inclined their ear, but hardened their neck: they did worse than their fathers.

Derfor skal du tale alle disse ordene til dem; men de vil ikke høre på deg: du skal også rope til dem; men de vil ikke svare deg.

Therefore thou shalt speak all these words unto them; but they will not hearken to thee: thou shalt also call unto them; but they will not answer thee.

Men du skal si til dem: Dette er det folk som ikke adlyder Herrens, deres Guds, røst, ei heller tar imot rettledning: sannheten er gått bort og er skåret bort fra deres munn.

But thou shalt say unto them, This is a nation that obeyeth not the voice of the LORD their God, nor receiveth correction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.

Kapp håret ditt av, Jerusalem, og kast det bort, og løft opp en klagesang på høydedragene; for Herren har forkastet og forlatt generasjonen han er vred på.

Cut off thine hair, O usalem, and cast it away, and take up a lamentation on high places; for the LORD hath rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath.

For Judas barn har gjort ondt i mine øyne, sier Herren: de har satt sine styggedommer i det huset som er kalt med mitt navn, for å forurense det.

For the children of Judah have done evil in my sight, saith the LORD: they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to pollute it.

Og de har bygget de høye steder i Tofet, som er i Hinnoms sønns dal, for å brenne sine sønner og døtre i ilden; noe jeg ikke har befalt, ei heller har det kommet inn i mitt hjerte.

And they have built the high places of Tophet, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my heart.

Derfor, se, dager kommer, sier Herren, da det ikke lenger skal kalles Tofet, eller Hinnoms sønns dal, men Drapsdalen: for de skal begrave i Tofet, inntil det ikke er mer plass.

Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be called Tophet, nor the valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of slaughter: for they shall bury in Tophet, till there be no place.

Og likene av dette folket skal bli mat for himmelens fugler og jordens dyr, og ingen skal skremme dem bort.

And the carcases of this people shall be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth; and none shall fray them away.

Deretter vil jeg få glede og fryd, brudgommens og brudens stemme, til å opphøre fra byene i Juda og fra Jerusalems gater; for landet skal bli øde.

Then will I cause to cease from the cities of Judah, and from the streets of usalem, the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride: for the land shall be desolate.
