The word of the LORD that came to l the son of Pethuel.

Hør dette, dere gamle menn, og lytt, alle dere innbyggere av landet. Har dette skjedd i deres dager, eller i deres fedres dager?

Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?

Fortell det til deres barn, og la barna deres fortelle sine barn, og deres barn til en ny generasjon.

Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation.

Det som gnageren har latt være, har gresshoppen spist; det som gresshoppen har latt være, har boret spist; det som boreten har latt være, har larven spist.

That which the palmerworm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpiller eaten.

Våkn opp, dere drankere, og gråt; og hyl, alle dere vindrikkere, for den nye vinen er tatt fra deres munn.

Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and howl, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the new wine; for it is cut off from your mouth.

For et folk har kommet opp mot mitt land, mektig og uten tall, med tenner som en løve, og med hjørnetenner som en stor løve.

For a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number, whose teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth of a great lion.

De har lagt min vinmark øde, og barket mitt fikentre; de har gjort det helt bart, og kastet det bort; grenene derav er blitt hvite.

He hath laid my vine waste, and barked my fig tree: he hath made it clean bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white.

Klag som en jomfru iført sekkestrie over sin ungdoms brudgom.

Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.

Matofferet og drikkofferet er borte fra Herrens hus; prestene, Herrens tjenere, sørger.

The meat offering and the drink offering is cut off from the house of the LORD; the priests, the LORD'S ministers, mourn.

Marken er ødelagt, landet sørger; for kornet er ødelagt: den nye vinen er tørket opp, oljen visner bort.

The field is wasted, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted: the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth.

Skam dere, dere jordbrukere; hyl, dere vinbønder, for hveten og byggen; for grødehøsten er ødelagt.

Be ye ashamed, O ye husbandmen; howl, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished.

Vinstokken er tørket opp, og fikentreet visner; granatepletreet, palmen og epletreet, ja, alle trærne på marken visner: for gleden er visnet bort fra menneskebarna.

The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men.

Bind om dere og klag, dere prester; hyl, dere altertjenere: kom, ligg hele natten i sekkestrie, dere min Guds tjenere: for matofferet og drikkofferet holdes tilbake fra deres Guds hus.

Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests: howl, ye ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meat offering and the drink offering is withholden from the house of your God.

Hellig en faste, kall sammen en høytidsforsamling, samle de eldste og alle innbyggerne i landet til Herren deres Guds hus, og rop til Herren,

Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the LORD your God, and cry unto the LORD,

Ve den dagen! For Herrens dag er nær, og som en ødeleggelse fra Den Allmektige kommer den.

Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.

Er ikke maten avskåret foran våre øyne, ja, glede og fryd fra vår Guds hus?

Is not the meat cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God?

Kornet råtner under sine jordklumper, lagerhusene legges øde, fjøsene er ødelagt; fordi kornet er visnet.

The seed is rotten under their clods, the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered.

Hvordan stønner dyrene! Buskapens flokker er forvirret, fordi de ikke har noen beiteplass; ja, sauene lider.

How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.

Herre, til deg vil jeg rope, for ilden har fortært beitene i ødemarken, og flammen har forbrent alle trærne på marken.

O LORD, to thee will I cry: for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field.

Dyrene på marken roper også til deg, for elvene er tørket opp, og ilden har fortært beitene i ødemarken.

The beasts of the field cry also unto thee: for the rivers of waters are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
