Blås i basunen på Sion, og la alarmen lyde på mitt hellige fjell! La alle som bor i landet skjelve, for Herrens dag kommer, den er nær.

Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand;

En dag med mørke og dysterhet, en dag med skyer og tett mørke, lik morgengryet som brer seg over fjellene. En stor og mektig folkemengde, en slik har aldri vært, og skal heller aldri mer komme i alle kommende generasjoner.

A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations.

Foran dem oppsluker en ild, bak dem brenner flammen. Landet er som Edens hage foran dem, men bak dem er det en øde ørken, og ingenting slipper unna.

A fire devoureth before them; and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and nothing shall escape them.

De ligner hester i utseende, og som ryttere skal de løpe av sted.

The appearance of them is as the appearance of horses; and as horsemen, so shall they run.

Lik lyden av vogner på toppen av fjellene skal de springe, som lyden av en flamme av ild som eter halmstubbene, som en mektig hær i slagorden.

Like the noise of chariots on the tops of mountains shall they leap, like the noise of a flame of fire that devoureth the stubble, as a strong people set in battle array.

Foran ansiktet deres vil folk være i angst, alle ansikter vil bli svarte av sorg.

Before their face the people shall be much pained: all faces shall gather blackness.

De skal løpe som sterke menn; de skal klatre på vegger som krigere; de skal marsjere hver på sin vei, og ingen vil bryte sine rekker.

They shall run like mighty men; they shall climb the wall like men of war; and they shall march every one on his ways, and they shall not break their ranks:

De skal ikke støte mot hverandre; de skal gå hver på sin sti. Når de faller over sverdet, skal de ikke såres.

Neither shall one thrust another; they shall walk every one in his path: and when they fall upon the sword, they shall not be wounded.

De skal fare frem og tilbake i byen; de skal løpe på muren, de skal klatre opp på husene; de skal komme inn gjennom vinduene som en tyv.

They shall run to and fro in the city; they shall run upon the wall, they shall climb up upon the houses; they shall enter in at the windows like a thief.

Jorden skal skjelve foran dem, himmelen skal skjelve. Solen og månen skal bli mørke, og stjernene skal miste sin glans.

The earth shall quake before them; the heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining:

Herren skal rope med sin stemme foran sin hær, for hans leir er meget stor, og den som utfører hans ord, er mektig. For Herrens dag er stor og fryktinngytende, og hvem kan utholde den?

And the LORD shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; and who can abide it?

Derfor sier Herren nå: Vend om til meg av hele deres hjerte, med faste, gråt og sorg.

Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:

Riv deres hjerter og ikke klærne deres, og vend tilbake til Herren deres Gud, for han er nådig og barmhjertig, sen til vrede og rik på godhet, og han angrer det onde.

And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.

Hvem vet om han vender tilbake og angrer, og lar etter seg en velsignelse, et grødeoffer og et drikkoffer til Herren deres Gud?

Who knoweth if he will return and repent, and leave a blessing behind him; even a meat offering and a drink offering unto the LORD your God?

Blås i basunen på Sion, hellig en faste, kall sammen en høytidssamling.

Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly:

Samle folket, hellig menigheten, kall sammen de eldste, samle barna og dem som ammer, la brudgommen gå ut fra sitt kammer, og bruden fra sitt omkledningsrom.

Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children, and those that suck the breasts: let the bridegroom go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet.

La prestene, Herrens tjenere, gråte mellom forhallen og alteret, og la dem si: Spar ditt folk, Herre, og gi ikke din arv til hån, slik at hedningene skal herske over dem. Hvorfor skal de si blant folkene: Hvor er deres Gud?

Let the priests, the ministers of the LORD, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, Spare thy people, O LORD, and give not thine heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God?

Da vil Herren være nidkjær for sitt land og ha medlidenhet med sitt folk.

Then will the LORD be jealous for his land, and pity his people.

Ja, Herren vil svare og si til sitt folk: Se, jeg vil sende dere korn, vin og olje, og dere skal bli mette. Jeg vil ikke lenger gjøre dere til skamme blant hedningene.

Yea, the LORD will answer and say unto his people, Behold, I will send you corn, and wine, and oil, and ye shall be satisfied therewith: and I will no more make you a reproach among the heathen:

Men den nordlige hæren vil jeg drive langt bort fra dere og jage den inn i et tørt og øde land, med ansiktet mot østhavet, og bakerst mot vesthavet. Stanken av den vil stige opp, og den dårlige lukten vil stige opp, for den har gjort store ting.

But I will remove far off from you the northern army, and will drive him into a land barren and desolate, with his face toward the east sea, and his hinder part toward the utmost sea, and his stink shall come up, and his ill savour shall come up, because he hath done great things.

Frykt ikke, du land, vær glad og juble, for Herren vil gjøre store ting.

Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice: for the LORD will do great things.

Vær ikke redde, dere markens dyr, for beitemarkene i ørkenen spirer, treet bærer sin frukt, fikentreet og vintreet gir sin rikdom.

Be not afraid, ye beasts of the field: for the pastures of the wilderness do spring, for the tree beareth her fruit, the fig tree and the vine do yield their strength.

Vær glade, Sions barn, gled dere i Herren deres Gud, for han har gitt dere høstregnet i rett tid, og han skal sende dere regnet, både høstregn og vårregn som før.

Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month.

Treskeplassene skal fylles med korn, og vin- og oljekarene skal flyte over.

And the floors shall be full of wheat, and the fats shall overflow with wine and oil.

Og jeg vil gi dere tilbake for de årene som gresshoppen, gnageren, nilten og hærskaren har spist, den store hær jeg sendte mot dere.

And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.

Dere skal spise i overflod og bli mette, og prise Herrens navn, deres Gud, som har gjort underfulle ting med dere. Og mitt folk skal aldri mer bli til skamme.

And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed.

Dere skal vite at jeg er midt iblant Israel, at jeg er Herren deres Gud, og ingen annen. Og mitt folk skal aldri mer bli til skamme.

And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the LORD your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed.

Og etter dette skal det skje at jeg vil utgyte min Ånd over alt kjød. Deres sønner og døtre skal profetere, deres gamle skal ha drømmer, og deres unge menn skal se syner.

And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

Også over tjenerne og tjenestepikene i de dager vil jeg utgyte min Ånd.

And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.

Jeg skal vise tegn i himmelen og på jorden: blod, ild og røyksøyler.

And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.

Solen skal bli forvandlet til mørke og månen til blod før Herrens store og fryktinngytende dag kommer.

The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.

Og det skal skje at hver den som påkaller Herrens navn, skal bli frelst. For på Sions berg og i Jerusalem skal det finnes frelse, slik Herren har sagt, blant de overlevende som Herren kaller.

And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.
