Da Herren fikk vite at fariseerne hadde hørt at Jesus vant og døpte flere disipler enn Johannes,

When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than n,

(Selv om Jesus ikke døpte, men hans disipler gjorde det),

(Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,)

forlot han Judea og dro igjen til Galilea.

He left Judaea, and departed again into Galilee.

Han måtte reise gjennom Samaria.

And he must needs go through Samaria.

Da kom han til en by i Samaria som heter Sykar, nær det jordstykket som Jakob ga til sin sønn Josef.

Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.

Der var Jakobs brønn. Jesus, som var trøtt etter reisen, satte seg ved brønnen. Det var omkring den sjette time.

Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.

En kvinne fra Samaria kom for å hente vann. Jesus sa til henne: Gi meg noe å drikke.

There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.

(For disiplene hans hadde gått til byen for å kjøpe mat.)

(For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)

Da sa den samaritanske kvinnen til ham: Hvordan kan du, som er jøde, be meg, en samaritansk kvinne, om å drikke? For jødene har ingenting med samaritanene å gjøre.

Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.

Jesus svarte og sa til henne: Om du bare visste Guds gave, og hvem det er som sier til deg: Gi meg å drikke, da ville du ha bedt ham, og han ville gitt deg levende vann.

Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

Kvinnen sa til ham: Herre, du har ikke noe å dra opp vann med, og brønnen er dyp. Hvor får du da det levende vannet fra?

The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?

Er du større enn vår far Jakob, som ga oss brønnen og selv drakk av den, sammen med sine barn og buskap?

Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?

Jesus svarte og sa til henne: Hver den som drikker av dette vannet, skal tørste igjen,

Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:

men den som drikker av det vannet jeg vil gi ham, skal aldri tørste. For det vannet jeg vil gi ham, skal bli i ham en kilde med vann som veller frem til evig liv.

But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

Kvinnen sa til ham: Herre, gi meg dette vannet, så jeg ikke blir tørst og slipper å komme hit for å hente opp vann.

The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.

Jesus sa til henne: Gå, kall på din mann, og kom hit.

Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.

Kvinnen svarte: Jeg har ingen mann. Jesus sa til henne: Du har rett når du sier at du ikke har noen mann.

The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:

For du har hatt fem menn, og han du nå har, er ikke din mann. Du talte sant.

For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.

Kvinnen sa til ham: Herre, jeg ser at du er en profet.

The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.

Våre fedre tilbad på dette fjellet, men dere sier at Jerusalem er stedet hvor man bør tilbe.

Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.

Jesus sa til henne: Kvinne, tro meg, den tid kommer da dere verken skal tilbe på dette fjellet eller i Jerusalem.

Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.

Dere tilber det dere ikke kjenner. Vi tilber det vi kjenner, for frelsen kommer fra jødene.

Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.

Men den tid kommer, ja, den er nå da de sanne tilbedere skal tilbe Faderen i ånd og sannhet, for slike tilbedere søker Faderen.

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

Gud er ånd, og de som tilber ham, må tilbe i ånd og sannhet.

God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Kvinnen sa til ham: Jeg vet at Messias kommer (han som kalles Kristus). Når han kommer, skal han fortelle oss alt.

The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.

Jesus sa til henne: Det er meg, jeg som taler med deg.

Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.

Akkurat da kom disiplene hans, og de undret seg over at han snakket med en kvinne. Likevel spurte ingen: Hva vil du? Eller: Hvorfor snakker du med henne?

And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her?

Kvinnen lot da vannkrukken stå, gikk inn i byen og sa til folket:

The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,

Kom og se en mann som har fortalt meg alt jeg har gjort. Er ikke dette Kristus?

Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?

De gikk ut av byen og kom til ham.

Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.

I mellomtiden ba disiplene ham og sa: Rabbi, spis.

In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat.

Men han sa til dem: Jeg har mat å spise som dere ikke vet om.

But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.

Disiplene sa da til hverandre: Har noen brakt ham mat?

Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat?

Jesus sa til dem: Min mat er å gjøre hans vilje som har sendt meg og fullføre hans verk.

Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.

Sier dere ikke: Det er enda fire måneder til høsten? Se, jeg sier dere: Løft blikket og se på markene, de er alt hvite til høst.

Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.

Den som høster, mottar lønn og samler frukt til evig liv, så at både den som sår, og den som høster, kan glede seg sammen.

And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.

For i dette er ordet sant: Én sår, en annen høster.

And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.

Jeg sendte dere for å høste det dere ikke har arbeidet med. Andre har arbeidet, og dere har fått del i deres arbeid.

I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.

Mange av samaritanene fra den byen trodde på ham på grunn av kvinnens ord, hun som vitnet og sa: Han har fortalt meg alt jeg har gjort.

And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did.

Da samaritanene kom til ham, ba de ham bli hos dem, og han ble der i to dager.

So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days.

Mange flere trodde på grunn av hans ord,

And many more believed because of his own word;

og de sa til kvinnen: Nå tror vi ikke lenger bare på grunn av det du sa, for nå har vi selv hørt, og vi vet at dette virkelig er Kristus, verdens frelser.

And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.

Etter to dager dro han videre derfra til Galilea.

Now after two days he departed thence, and went into Galilee.

For Jesus selv vitnet at en profet ikke har ære i sitt eget land.

For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country.

Da han kom til Galilea, tok galileerne imot ham, for de hadde sett alt han gjorde i Jerusalem under høytiden, for de hadde også vært der.

Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galilaeans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast.

Så kom Jesus igjen til Kana i Galilea, hvor han hadde gjort vann til vin. Der var en kongelig embetsmann hvis sønn var syk i Kapernaum.

So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum.

Da han fikk høre at Jesus hadde kommet fra Judea til Galilea, gikk han til ham og ba ham komme ned og helbrede hans sønn, som var døden nær.

When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death.

Jesus sa til ham: Om dere ikke ser tegn og under, vil dere ikke tro.

Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.

Den kongelige embetsmannen sa til ham: Herre, kom ned før barnet mitt dør.

The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.

Jesus sa til ham: Gå, din sønn lever. Mannen trodde det ordet Jesus hadde sagt til ham, og gikk.

Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way.

Mens han var på vei hjem, kom tjenerne hans mot ham og sa: Din sønn lever.

And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth.

Han spurte dem så hvilken time han begynte å bli bedre. De sa til ham: I går ved den sjuende time forlot feberen ham.

Then inquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.

Da forsto faren at det hadde skjedd i den timen da Jesus sa til ham: Din sønn lever. Og han, og hele hans hus, trodde.

So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.

Dette var det andre mirakelet Jesus gjorde etter at han kom fra Judea til Galilea.

This is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he was come out of Judaea into Galilee.
