Da ba jeg til Herren min Gud fra fiskens buk.

Then ah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish's belly,

Og jeg sa: Jeg ropte til Herren i min nød, og han hørte meg; fra dødsrikets dyp ropte jeg, og du hørte min røst.

And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.

For du kastet meg i dypet, midt i havet, og strømmen omkranset meg; alle dine brenninger og bølger gikk over meg.

For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.

Da sa jeg: Jeg er drevet bort fra dine øyne; likevel vil jeg igjen se mot ditt hellige tempel.

Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.

Vannet omkranset meg til min sjel; dypet omsluttet meg, tang var viklet rundt mitt hode.

The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head.

Jeg sank ned til fjellenes grunn; jorden med sine sluser var over meg for alltid. Men du brakte mitt liv opp fra graven, Herre min Gud.

I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.

Da min sjel vansmektet i meg, husket jeg Herren; og min bønn nådde deg, til ditt hellige tempel.

When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.

De som holder fast ved tomme avguder, forlater sin egen nåde.

They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.

Men jeg vil ofre til deg med takkens røst; det jeg har lovet, vil jeg holde. Frelsen er fra Herren.

But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.

Og Herren talte til fisken, og den spydde meg ut på tørt land.

And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out ah upon the dry land.
