Etter Moses, Herrens tjeners død, skjedde det at Herren talte til Josva, Nuns sønn, og Moses' tjener, og sa,

Now after the death of Moses the servant of the LORD it came to pass, that the LORD spake unto hua the son of Nun, Moses' minister, saying,

Min tjener Moses er død; stå nå opp, gå over denne Jordan, du og hele dette folket, til det landet som jeg gir dem, til Israels barn.

Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.

Hvert sted der dere setter foten, har jeg gitt dere, som jeg lovet Moses.

Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.

Fra ødemarken og dette Libanon til den store elven, elven Eufrat, hele landet til hetittene, og til det store havet mot vest, skal være deres grenser.

From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast.

Ingen mann skal kunne motstå deg alle dine levedager: Som jeg var med Moses, vil jeg være med deg: Jeg vil ikke svikte deg, heller ikke forlate deg.

There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

Vær sterk og modig, for du skal dele dette landet til folket som arv, det landet jeg lovet deres fedre å gi dem.

Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.

Vær kun sterk og meget modig, så du akter på å gjøre etter hele loven, som min tjener Moses befalte deg: Vik ikke fra den, verken til høyre eller til venstre, så du kan lykkes hvor du enn går.

Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.

Denne lovens bok skal ikke forlate din munn; men du skal grunne på den dag og natt, så du følger alt som er skrevet i den: For da skal du gjøre din ferd lykkelig, og da skal du ha fremgang.

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

Har jeg ikke befalt deg? Vær sterk og modig; vær ikke redd eller motløs, for Herren din Gud er med deg hvor du enn går.

Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

Da befalte Josva folkets offiserer og sa,

Then hua commanded the officers of the people, saying,

Gå gjennom leiren og befal folket og si: Gjør i stand forsyninger; for om tre dager skal dere gå over denne Jordan for å innta det landet som Herren deres Gud gir dere til å eie.

Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the LORD your God giveth you to possess it.

Til Rubenittene og Gadittene, og til halvdelen av Manasses stamme, talte Josva og sa,

And to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to half the tribe of Manasseh, spake hua, saying,

Husk det ord Moses, Herrens tjener, befalte dere, da han sa: Herren deres Gud har gitt dere hvile, og gitt dere dette landet.

Remember the word which Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, saying, The LORD your God hath given you rest, and hath given you this land.

Deres koner, barn og buskap skal bli i det landet Moses ga dere her på denne siden av Jordan; men dere, alle stridsdyktige menn, skal gå over bevæpnet foran deres brødre og hjelpe dem,

Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle, shall remain in the land which Moses gave you on this side Jordan; but ye shall pass before your brethren armed, all the mighty men of valour, and help them;

til Herren gir deres brødre hvile, som han har gitt dere, og de også har inntatt det landet Herren deres Gud gir dem: Da skal dere vende tilbake til det landområde dere eier, og nyte det, det landet Moses, Herrens tjener, ga dere på denne siden av Jordan mot øst.

Until the LORD have given your brethren rest, as he hath given you, and they also have possessed the land which the LORD your God giveth them: then ye shall return unto the land of your possession, and enjoy it, which Moses the LORD'S servant gave you on this side Jordan toward the sunrising.

Og de svarte Josva og sa: Alt hva du befaler oss, vil vi gjøre, og hvor du enn sender oss, vil vi gå.

And they answered hua, saying, All that thou commandest us we will do, and whithersoever thou sendest us, we will go.

Som vi hørte på Moses i alle ting, så vil vi høre på deg: Bare Herren din Gud må være med deg, som han var med Moses.

According as we hearkened unto Moses in all things, so will we hearken unto thee: only the LORD thy God be with thee, as he was with Moses.

Enhver som gjør opprør mot dine bud, og ikke lytter til dine ord i alt du befaler ham, skal bli dømt til døden: Bare vær sterk og modig.

Whosoever he be that doth rebel against thy commandment, and will not hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong and of a good courage.
