Da Jabin, kongen av Hasor, fikk høre om dette, sendte han bud til Jobab, kongen av Madon, og til kongen av Sjimron, og til kongen av Aksjaf,

And it came to pass, when Jabin king of Hazor had heard those things, that he sent to Jobab king of Madon, and to the king of Shimron, and to the king of Achshaph,

og til kongene i nordfjellene, på slettene sør for Kinneret, i dalen, og langs grensen mot Dor i vest,

And to the kings that were on the north of the mountains, and of the plains south of Chinneroth, and in the valley, and in the borders of Dor on the west,

og til kanaanittene i øst og vest, og til amorittene, hetittene, perisittene og jebusittene i fjellene, og til hivittene nær Hermon i landet Mispe.

And to the Canaanite on the east and on the west, and to the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite in the mountains, and to the Hivite under Hermon in the land of Mizpeh.

Og de dro ut, de og alle deres hærer med dem, en stor mengde folk, som sanden ved havets bredd i antall, med mange hester og vogner.

And they went out, they and all their hosts with them, much people, even as the sand that is upon the sea shore in multitude, with horses and chariots very many.

Alle disse kongene samlet seg og slo leir ved vannene i Merom for å kjempe mot Israel.

And when all these kings were met together, they came and pitched together at the waters of Merom, to fight against Israel.

Men Herren sa til Josva: Frykt ikke for dem, for i morgen ved denne tid vil jeg overgi dem alle, drept foran Israel. Du skal lamme hestene deres og brenne vognene deres med ild.

And the LORD said unto hua, Be not afraid because of them: for to morrow about this time will I deliver them up all slain before Israel: thou shalt hough their horses, and burn their chariots with fire.

Så kom Josva og hele krigsfolket med ham over dem ved vannene i Merom plutselig, og de angrep dem.

So hua came, and all the people of war with him, against them by the waters of Merom suddenly; and they fell upon them.

Herren overga dem i Israels hånd, og de slo dem og forfulgte dem til Store Sidon, Misrefot-Maim, og dalen i Mispe mot øst. De slo dem helt til ingen var igjen.

And the LORD delivered them into the hand of Israel, who smote them, and chased them unto great Zidon, and unto Misrephoth-maim, and unto the valley of Mizpeh eastward; and they smote them, until they left them none remaining.

Josva gjorde med dem som Herren hadde sagt til ham: Han lammet hestene deres og brente vognene deres med ild.

And hua did unto them as the LORD bade him: he houghed their horses, and burnt their chariots with fire.

På den tiden vendte Josva tilbake og inntok Hasor og slo kongen der med sverdet, for Hasor var tidligere leder for alle disse rikene.

And hua at that time turned back, and took Hazor, and smote the king thereof with the sword: for Hazor beforetime was the head of all those kingdoms.

De slo alle innbyggerne der med sverdets egg og ødela dem fullstendig: Det var ingen igjen som kunne puste, og han brente Hasor med ild.

And they smote all the souls that were therein with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them: there was not any left to breathe: and he burnt Hazor with fire.

Alle byene til disse kongene og deres konger tok Josva, og han slo dem med sverdets egg og ødela dem fullstendig, slik Moses, Herrens tjener, hadde befalt.

And all the cities of those kings, and all the kings of them, did hua take, and smote them with the edge of the sword, and he utterly destroyed them, as Moses the servant of the LORD commanded.

Men byene som stod på sine høyder, brente ikke Israel, bortsett fra Hasor; den brente Josva.

But as for the cities that stood still in their strength, Israel burned none of them, save Hazor only; that did hua burn.

Alt byttet fra disse byene og buskapen tok Israels barn som bytte, men alle folkene slo de med sverdets egg, helt til de hadde ødelagt dem, og de lot ingen bli værende i live.

And all the spoil of these cities, and the cattle, the children of Israel took for a prey unto themselves; but every man they smote with the edge of the sword, until they had destroyed them, neither left they any to breathe.

Som Herren hadde befalt sin tjener Moses, slik befalte Moses Josva, og slik gjorde Josva; han unnlot intet av alt det Herren hadde befalt Moses.

As the LORD commanded Moses his servant, so did Moses command hua, and so did hua; he left nothing undone of all that the LORD commanded Moses.

Så tok Josva hele landet, høydene, hele sørområdet, hele landet Gosen, dalen, sletten, Israels fjell og dalen ved foten av det;

So hua took all that land, the hills, and all the south country, and all the land of Goshen, and the valley, and the plain, and the mountain of Israel, and the valley of the same;

fra fjellet Halak, som stiger opp mot Se'ir, helt til Ba'al-Gad i Libanons dal ved foten av Hermon-fjellet. Alle kongene tok han, han slo dem og drepte dem.

Even from the mount Halak, that goeth up to Seir, even unto Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanon under mount Hermon: and all their kings he took, and smote them, and slew them.

Josva førte krig i lang tid mot alle disse kongene.

hua made war a long time with all those kings.

Det var ingen by som sluttet fred med Israels barn, unntatt de hivittene som bodde i Gibeon. Alle andre tok de i krig.

There was not a city that made peace with the children of Israel, save the Hivites the inhabitants of Gibeon: all other they took in battle.

For Herren lot deres hjerter bli harde, slik at de skulle gå mot Israel i kamp, for at han skulle ødelegge dem fullstendig uten nåde, slik Herren hadde befalt Moses.

For it was of the LORD to harden their hearts, that they should come against Israel in battle, that he might destroy them utterly, and that they might have no favour, but that he might destroy them, as the LORD commanded Moses.

På den tiden kom Josva og utryddet anakittene fra fjellene, fra Hebron, fra Debir, fra Anab, fra alle Judeas fjell, og fra alle Israels fjell. Josva ødela dem fullstendig med deres byer.

And at that time came hua, and cut off the Anakims from the mountains, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the mountains of Judah, and from all the mountains of Israel: hua destroyed them utterly with their cities.

Det var ingen anakitter igjen i Israels land, bare i Gaza, i Gat og i Asjdod var det noen tilbake.

There was none of the Anakims left in the land of the children of Israel: only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, there remained.

Så tok Josva hele landet, i samsvar med alt Herren hadde sagt til Moses; og Josva ga det som arv til Israel etter deres inndelinger i stammer. Og landet fikk ro fra krig.

So hua took the whole land, according to all that the LORD said unto Moses; and hua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land rested from war.
