Da det skjedde at alle kongene av amorittene vest for Jordan, og alle kongene av kanaanittene ved havet, hørte at Herren hadde tørket opp vannet i Jordan for israelsfolket, inntil de hadde krysset over, ble de motløse, og det var ingen ånd igjen i dem på grunn av Israels barn.

And it came to pass, when all the kings of the Amorites, which were on the side of Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, which were by the sea, heard that the LORD had dried up the waters of Jordan from before the children of Israel, until we were passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel.

På den tiden sa Herren til Josva: Lag deg skarpe kniver og omskjær Israels barn igjen, for andre gang.

At that time the LORD said unto hua, Make thee sharp knives, and circumcise again the children of Israel the second time.

Og Josva laget seg skarpe kniver og omskar Israels barn ved Forhudshøyden.

And hua made him sharp knives, and circumcised the children of Israel at the hill of the foreskins.

Og dette er grunnen til at Josva omskar: Alle mennene som kom ut av Egypt, alle stridsmennene, døde i ørkenen på veien etter at de hadde kommet ut av Egypt.

And this is the cause why hua did circumcise: All the people that came out of Egypt, that were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came out of Egypt.

Nå var alle folket som kom ut omskåret, men alle som var født i ørkenen på veien ut av Egypt, hadde de ikke omskåret.

Now all the people that came out were circumcised: but all the people that were born in the wilderness by the way as they came forth out of Egypt, them they had not circumcised.

For Israels barn vandret førti år i ørkenen, til alle folkene, stridsmennene som kom ut av Egypt, var utryddet, fordi de ikke adlød Herrens røst. Herren hadde sverget at de ikke skulle få se landet, som Herren hadde sverget å gi til deres fedre, et land som flyter med melk og honning.

For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people that were men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD: unto whom the LORD sware that he would not shew them the land, which the LORD sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land that floweth with milk and honey.

Og deres barn, som han reiste opp i deres sted, dem omskar Josva, for de var uomskårne, da de ikke hadde omskåret dem på veien.

And their children, whom he raised up in their stead, them hua circumcised: for they were uncircumcised, because they had not circumcised them by the way.

Da de var ferdig med å omskjære hele folket, ble de i leiren til de hadde blitt friske igjen.

And it came to pass, when they had done circumcising all the people, that they abode in their places in the camp, till they were whole.

Og Herren sa til Josva: I dag har jeg rullet bort vanæren fra Egypt fra dere. Derfor kalles stedet Gilgal den dag i dag.

And the LORD said unto hua, This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. Wherefore the name of the place is called Gilgal unto this day.

Og Israels barn slo leir i Gilgal og feiret påsken den fjortende dagen i måneden om kvelden på slettene ved Jeriko.

And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal, and kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the month at even in the plains of Jericho.

Og dagen etter påsken spiste de av det gamle kornet av landet, usyrede kaker og ristet korn samme dag.

And they did eat of the old corn of the land on the morrow after the passover, unleavened cakes, and parched corn in the selfsame day.

Og mannaen opphørte dagen etter at de hadde spist av det gamle kornet av landet; Israels barn hadde ikke manna mer, men det året spiste de av landets frukt i Kanaan.

And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the old corn of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.

Og det skjedde da Josva var ved Jeriko, at han løftet blikket og så en mann stå overfor ham med et trukket sverd i hånden; og Josva gikk bort til ham og sa: Er du for oss eller for våre fiender?

And it came to pass, when hua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and hua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?

Og han svarte: Nei, men som høvding for Herrens hær er jeg nå kommet. Da falt Josva med ansiktet til jorden, tilba og sa til ham: Hva sier min herre til sin tjener?

And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And hua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?

Og høvdingen for Herrens hær sa til Josva: Ta skoen av foten din, for stedet du står på er hellig. Og Josva gjorde så.

And the captain of the LORD'S host said unto hua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And hua did so.
