Og en engel fra Herren kom opp fra Gilgal til Bochim og sa: Jeg førte dere opp fra Egypt og har brakt dere til det landet jeg lovet deres fedre; og jeg sa at jeg aldri vil bryte min pakt med dere.

And an angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said, I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land which I sware unto your fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant with you.

Og dere skal ikke inngå noen avtale med innbyggerne i dette landet; dere skal rive ned deres altere: men dere har ikke adlydt min røst: hvorfor har dere gjort dette?

And ye shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have not obeyed my voice: why have ye done this?

Derfor sa jeg også, jeg vil ikke drive dem bort fra dere; men de skal bli som torner i deres sider, og deres guder skal bli en snare for dere.

Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you.

Da engelen fra Herren talte disse ordene til hele Israels folk, hevet folket sin stemme og gråt.

And it came to pass, when the angel of the LORD spake these words unto all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept.

Og de kalte stedet Bochim: og de ofret der til Herren.

And they called the name of that place Bochim: and they sacrificed there unto the LORD.

Da Josva lot folket gå, dro Israels barn hver mann til sin arv for å ta landet i eie.

And when Joshua had let the people go, the children of Israel went every man unto his inheritance to possess the land.

Og folket tjente Herren alle Josvas dager, og alle dagene til de eldste som levde lenger enn Josva, og som hadde sett alle de store gjerningene som Herren gjorde for Israel.

And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the LORD, that he did for Israel.

Og Josva, Nuns sønn, Herrens tjener, døde, hundre og ti år gammel.

And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being an hundred and ten years old.

Og de begravde ham ved grensen av sin arv i Timnat-heres, i Efraims fjell, på nordsiden av Gaas-fjellet.

And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnath-heres, in the mount of Ephraim, on the north side of the hill Gaash.

Og også hele den generasjonen ble samlet til sine fedre: og det vokste opp en annen generasjon etter dem, som ikke kjente Herren, eller de gjerningene han hadde gjort for Israel.

And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.

Og Israels barn gjorde det som var ondt i Herrens øyne, og tjente Baalim:

And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim:

Og de forlot Herren, fedrenes Gud, som hadde ført dem ut av Egypt, og fulgte andre guder, gudene til de folkene som var omkring dem, og bøyde seg for dem, og vakte Herrens vrede.

And they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and provoked the LORD to anger.

Og de forlot Herren og tjente Baal og Astartes.

And they forsook the LORD, and served Baal and Ashtaroth.

Og Herrens vrede ble opptent mot Israel, og han overgav dem i hendene på plundrere som plyndret dem, og han solgte dem til deres fiender rundt omkring, slik at de ikke lenger kunne stå seg mot sine fiender.

And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.

Uansett hvor de dro ut, var Herrens hånd mot dem for ulykke, slik Herren hadde sagt, og som Herren hadde sverget dem: og de ble meget nedbrutt.

Whithersoever they went out, the hand of the LORD was against them for evil, as the LORD had said, and as the LORD had sworn unto them: and they were greatly distressed.

Likevel oppreiste Herren dommere, som frelste dem fra hånden til dem som plyndret dem.

Nevertheless the LORD raised up judges, which delivered them out of the hand of those that spoiled them.

Men de ville ikke lytte til sine dommere, men drev hor etter andre guder, og bøyde seg for dem: de vek raskt bort fra den veien deres fedre hadde fulgt, da de adlød Herrens bud; men de gjorde ikke slik.

And yet they would not hearken unto their judges, but they went a whoring after other gods, and bowed themselves unto them: they turned quickly out of the way which their fathers walked in, obeying the commandments of the LORD; but they did not so.

Og når Herren oppreiste dem dommere, var Herren med dommeren, og frelste dem fra deres fienders hånd alle dommerens dager: for Herren angret seg på grunn av deres sukk på grunn av dem som undertrykte dem og plaget dem.

And when the LORD raised them up judges, then the LORD was with the judge, and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge: for it repented the LORD because of their groanings by reason of them that oppressed them and vexed them.

Og det skjedde, når dommeren døde, at de vendte tilbake, og fordervet seg mer enn sine fedre, ved å følge andre guder for å tjene dem og bøye seg for dem; de opphørte ikke fra sine egne gjerninger eller fra sin sta måte.

And it came to pass, when the judge was dead, that they returned, and corrupted themselves more than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them, and to bow down unto them; they ceased not from their own doings, nor from their stubborn way.

Og Herrens vrede ble opptent mot Israel; og han sa: Fordi dette folket har brutt min pakt som jeg befalte deres fedre, og ikke har hørt på min røst;

And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel; and he said, Because that this people hath transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened unto my voice;

Dermed vil jeg ikke fra nå av drive ut noen fra foran dem av de nasjonene som Josva etterlot da han døde:

I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them of the nations which Joshua left when he died:

For at jeg gjennom dem kan prøve Israel, om de vil holde Herrens vei for å vandre i den, som deres fedre gjorde, eller ikke.

That through them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of the LORD to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not.

Derfor lot Herren disse nasjonene være, uten å drive dem ut hastig; heller ikke overgav han dem i Josvas hånd.

Therefore the LORD left those nations, without driving them out hastily; neither delivered he them into the hand of Joshua.
