Og Herren sa til Moses: Tal til prestene, Arons sønner, og si til dem: Ingen skal gjøre seg uren ved en død blant sitt folk.

And the LORD said unto Moses, Speak unto the priests the sons of Aaron, and say unto them, There shall none be defid for the dead among his peop:

Unntatt for sine nærmeste slektninger, det vil si for sin mor, sin far, sin sønn, sin datter og sin bror.

But for his kin, that is near unto him, that is, for his mother, and for his father, and for his son, and for his daughter, and for his brother,

Og for sin søster, en jomfru som står ham nær og som ikke har hatt noen mann; for henne kan han gjøre seg uren.

And for his sister a virgin, that is nigh unto him, which hath had no husband; for her may he be defid.

Men han skal ikke gjøre seg uren som en leder blant sitt folk, så han ikke vanhelliger seg selv.

But he shall not defi himself, being a chief man among his peop, to profane himself.

De skal ikke barbere hodet sitt, barbere av hjørnene på skjegget, eller gjøre innsnitt i huden.

They shall not make baldness upon their head, neither shall they shave off the corner of their beard, nor make any cuttings in their fsh.

De skal være hellige for sin Gud og ikke vanhellige Guds navn; for de bærer fram Herrens ildofre og sin Guds brød, derfor skal de være hellige.

They shall be holy unto their God, and not profane the name of their God: for the offerings of the LORD made by fire, and the bread of their God, they do offer: therefore they shall be holy.

De skal ikke ta en kvinne som er en prostituert eller vanhelliget, og de skal ikke ta en kvinne som er skilt fra sin mann; for han er hellig for sin Gud.

They shall not take a wife that is a whore, or profane; neither shall they take a woman put away from her husband: for he is holy unto his God.

Du skal hellige ham, for han bærer fram din Guds brød; han skal være hellig for deg, for jeg, Herren, som helliger dere, er hellig.

Thou shalt sanctify him therefore; for he offereth the bread of thy God: he shall be holy unto thee: for I the LORD, which sanctify you, am holy.

Hvis en prests datter vanhelliger seg selv ved å være prostituert, vanhelliger hun sin far; hun skal brennes med ild.

And the daughter of any priest, if she profane herself by playing the whore, she profaneth her father: she shall be burnt with fire.

Presten som er den øverste blant sine brødre, på hvis hode salvingsoljen er blitt utøst, og som er innviet til å bære klærne, skal ikke avdekke sitt hode eller rive sine klær.

And he that is the high priest among his brethren, upon whose head the anointing oil was poured, and that is consecrated to put on the garments, shall not uncover his head, nor rend his clothes;

Han skal heller ikke gå inn til noen død kropp eller gjøre seg uren verken for sin far eller sin mor.

Neither shall he go in to any dead body, nor defi himself for his father, or for his mother;

Han skal ikke gå ut av helligdommen eller vanhellige sin Guds helligdom; for kronen av sin Guds salvingsolje er over ham: Jeg er Herren.

Neither shall he go out of the sanctuary, nor profane the sanctuary of his God; for the crown of the anointing oil of his God is upon him: I am the LORD.

Han skal ta seg en kone som er jomfru.

And he shall take a wife in her virginity.

En enke, en fraskilt kvinne, en vanhelliget eller en prostituert skal han ikke ta; men han skal ta en jomfru av sitt eget folk til kone.

A widow, or a divorced woman, or profane, or an harlot, these shall he not take: but he shall take a virgin of his own peop to wife.

Han skal ikke vanhellige sine etterkommere blant sitt folk, for jeg, Herren, helliger ham.

Neither shall he profane his seed among his peop: for I the LORD do sanctify him.

Og Herren talte til Moses og sa:

And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

Si til Aron: Ingen av dine etterkommere gjennom generasjonene som har en lyte, skal komme nær for å bære fram sin Guds brød.

Speak unto Aaron, saying, Whosoever he be of thy seed in their generations that hath any bmish, t him not approach to offer the bread of his God.

For hvem det enn er som har en lyte, skal ikke komme nær: en blind mann, en halt, en med flat nese eller som har noe unormalt.

For whatsoever man he be that hath a bmish, he shall not approach: a blind man, or a lame, or he that hath a flat nose, or any thing superfluous,

Eller en mann som har brutte føtter eller brutte hender.

Or a man that is brokenfooted, or brokenhanded,

Eller en krumbøyd, en dverg, eller en som har en lyte i øyet, skurv, skabb, eller har knuste testikler.

Or crookbackt, or a dwarf, or that hath a bmish in his eye, or be scurvy, or scabbed, or hath his stones broken;

Ingen av Arons avkom som er prest og har en lyte skal komme nær for å bære Herrens ildofre; han har en lyte, han skal ikke komme nær for å bære fram sin Guds brød.

No man that hath a bmish of the seed of Aaron the priest shall come nigh to offer the offerings of the LORD made by fire: he hath a bmish; he shall not come nigh to offer the bread of his God.

Han skal spise sin Guds brød, både av det som er helligst og av det hellige.

He shall eat the bread of his God, both of the most holy, and of the holy.

Men han skal ikke gå innenfor forhenget eller nærme seg alteret, fordi han har en lyte, så han ikke vanhelliger mine helligdommer; for jeg, Herren, helliger dem.

Only he shall not go in unto the vail, nor come nigh unto the altar, because he hath a bmish; that he profane not my sanctuaries: for I the LORD do sanctify them.

Og Moses fortalte dette til Aron, hans sønner og til alle Israels barn.

And Moses told it unto Aaron, and to his sons, and unto all the children of Israel.
