På den første dagen i uken, tidlig om morgenen, kom de til graven og hadde med seg de velluktende oljene de hadde tilberedt, og noen andre sammen med dem.

Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.

De fant at steinen var rullet bort fra graven.

And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.

Da de gikk inn, fant de ikke Herrens Jesu kropp.

And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.

Og mens de sto der forvirret, se, da sto to menn ved siden av dem i strålende klær.

And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:

De ble redde og bøyde ansiktene mot jorden, men mennene sa til dem: Hvorfor leter dere etter den levende blant de døde?

And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?

Han er ikke her, men han er oppstått. Husk hvordan han talte til dere mens han ennå var i Galilea,

He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,

da han sa: Menneskesønnen må overgis i syndige menneskers hender, korsfestes og stå opp igjen på den tredje dagen.

Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.

Da husket de hans ord.

And they remembered his words,

Og de vendte tilbake fra graven og fortalte alt dette til de elleve og til alle de andre.

And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest.

Det var Maria Magdalena, Johanna, Maria Jakobs mor, og de andre kvinnene som var med dem, som fortalte dette til apostlene.

It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles.

Men deres ord virket for dem som tomme historier, og de trodde dem ikke.

And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not.

Da reiste Peter seg og sprang til graven, og da han bøyde seg ned, så han linklærne ligge der alene; så gikk han hjem og undret seg over det som hadde skjedd.

Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.

Se, to av dem var på vei samme dag til en landsby som heter Emmaus, som ligger omtrent seksti stadier fra Jerusalem.

And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs.

De snakket sammen om alt det som hadde skjedd.

And they talked together of all these things which had happened.

Og mens de snakket og diskuterte sammen, kom Jesus selv nærmere og gikk sammen med dem.

And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.

Men øynene deres ble holdt slik at de ikke kunne kjenne ham igjen.

But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.

Han sa til dem: Hva er det dere går og snakker så alvorlig om på veien? Og hvorfor er dere bedrøvet?

And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad?

En av dem, som het Kleopas, svarte ham: Er du den eneste besøkende i Jerusalem som ikke vet hva som har hendt der i disse dager?

And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days?

Han spurte dem: Hva da? De sa til ham: Det som har skjedd med Jesus fra Nasaret, som var en profet, mektig i ord og gjerning for Gud og hele folket.

And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:

Hvordan overprestene og lederne våre overga ham til å bli dømt til døden, og korsfestet ham.

And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.

Vi hadde håpet at han var den som skulle forløse Israel. Men i tillegg til alt dette er det i dag den tredje dagen siden dette skjedde.

But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.

Visse kvinner blant oss har også overrasket oss; de var tidlig ved graven.

Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre;

De fant ikke kroppen hans, og de kom og fortalte at de hadde sett et syn av engler som sa at han lever.

And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive.

Noen av dem som var med oss, gikk til graven og fant det akkurat slik kvinnene hadde sagt, men ham så de ikke.

And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.

Da sa han til dem: Å, dere dårer og tregt til å tro alt det profetene har talt!

Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:

Burde ikke Kristus lide dette og deretter gå inn i sin herlighet?

Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?

Og han begynte med Moses og alle profetene og utla for dem i alle skriftene det som gjelder ham.

And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

De nærmet seg landsbyen de skulle til, og han lot som om han ville gå videre.

And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further.

Men de bad han innstendig: Bli hos oss, for det går mot kveld, og dagen er snart over. Så han gikk inn for å bli hos dem.

But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.

Og mens han satt til bords med dem, tok han brød, velsignet det, brøt det og ga dem.

And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.

Da ble øynene deres åpnet, og de kjente ham igjen; og han forsvant fra deres syn.

And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.

De sa til hverandre: Brant ikke våre hjerter i oss, mens han talte til oss på veien og forklarte skriftene for oss?

And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?

De sto opp i samme time, vendte tilbake til Jerusalem og fant de elleve samlet sammen med dem som var med dem,

And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them,

og sa: Herren er sannelig oppstått, og han har vist seg for Simon.

Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.

Og de fortalte om det som hadde skjedd på veien, og hvordan han ble gjenkjent av dem ved å bryte brødet.

And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.

Mens de snakket om dette, sto Jesus selv midt iblant dem og sa til dem: Fred være med dere.

And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

De ble skremte og redde, og trodde de så en ånd.

But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.

Han sa til dem: Hvorfor er dere bekymret, og hvorfor stiger det tvil i hjertene deres?

And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?

Se mine hender og føtter, at det er jeg selv; ta på meg og se. En ånd har ikke kjøtt og bein, som dere ser at jeg har.

Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.

Og da han hadde sagt dette, viste han dem sine hender og føtter.

And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.

Mens de ennå ikke kunne tro av glede og undret seg, sa han til dem: Har dere noe å spise her?

And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat?

De ga ham et stykke stekt fisk og noe honningkake.

And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb.

Han tok det og spiste det foran dem.

And he took it, and did eat before them.

Så sa han til dem: Dette er de ordene jeg talte til dere mens jeg ennå var hos dere, at alt må oppfylles som er skrevet om meg i Moseloven, i profetene og i salmene.

And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

Da åpnet han deres sinn så de kunne forstå skriftene.

Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,

Han sa til dem: Det er skrevet at Kristus måtte lide og stå opp fra de døde på den tredje dagen,

And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:

og at omvendelse og syndenes tilgivelse skulle forkynnes i hans navn for alle folkeslag, med utgangspunkt i Jerusalem.

And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Dere er vitner om disse tingene.

And ye are witnesses of these things.

Og se, jeg sender min Fars løfte over dere. Men bli i byen Jerusalem til dere blir kledd med kraft fra det høye.

And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

Han førte dem ut til Betania, og løftet hendene og velsignet dem.

And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.

Og mens han velsignet dem, ble han skilt fra dem og løftet opp til himmelen.

And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.

De tilba ham og vendte tilbake til Jerusalem med stor glede.

And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:

Og de var stadig i templet og priste og lovet Gud. Amen.

And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.
