The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

Abraham fikk sønnen Isak; Isak fikk Jakob; og Jakob fikk Judas og hans brødre.

Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas and his brethren;

Judas fikk Phares og Zara med Thamar; Phares fikk Esrom; og Esrom fikk Aram.

And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram;

Aram fikk Aminadab; Aminadab fikk Naasson; og Naasson fikk Salmon.

And Aram begat Aminadab; and Aminadab begat Naasson; and Naasson begat Salmon;

Salmon fikk Boas med Rachab; Boas fikk Obed med Ruth; og Obed fikk Isai.

And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse;

Isai fikk kong David; og kong David fikk Salomo med hun som hadde vært Urias' kone.

And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias;

Salomo fikk Rehabeam; Rehabeam fikk Abia; og Abia fikk Asa.

And Solomon begat Roboam; and Roboam begat Abia; and Abia begat Asa;

Asa fikk Josafat; Josafat fikk Joram; og Joram fikk Ussias.

And Asa begat Josaphat; and Josaphat begat Joram; and Joram begat Ozias;

Ussias fikk Jotam; Jotam fikk Akas; og Akas fikk Hiskia.

And Ozias begat Joatham; and Joatham begat Achaz; and Achaz begat Ezekias;

Hiskia fikk Manasse; Manasse fikk Amon; og Amon fikk Josjia.

And Ezekias begat Manasses; and Manasses begat Amon; and Amon begat Josias;

Josjia fikk Jekonja og hans brødre, på den tid de ble bortført til Babylon.

And Josias begat Jechonias and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon:

And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and Salathiel begat Zorobabel;

And Zorobabel begat Abiud; and Abiud begat Eliakim; and Eliakim begat Azor;

Asor fikk Sadok; Sadok fikk Akim; og Akim fikk Eliud.

And Azor begat Sadoc; and Sadoc begat Achim; and Achim begat Eliud;

Eliud fikk Eleasar; Eleasar fikk Mattan; og Mattan fikk Jakob.

And Eliud begat Eleazar; and Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob;

Jakob fikk Josef, Marias mann; og av henne ble Jesus født, som kalles Kristus.

And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.

Så alle slektsledd fra Abraham til David er fjorten generasjoner; fra David til bortførelsen til Babylon er fjorten generasjoner; og fra bortførelsen til Babylon til Kristus er fjorten generasjoner.

So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.

Jesus Kristus' fødsel skjedde slik: Hans mor Maria var lovet bort til Josef, men før de kom sammen, viste det seg at hun var med barn ved Den Hellige Ånd.

Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.

Josef, hennes mann, var rettskaffen og ville ikke utsette henne for offentlig skam, så han bestemte seg for å skille seg fra henne i all hemmelighet.

Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.

Mens han tenkte på dette, viste Herrens engel seg for ham i en drøm og sa: "Josef, Davids sønn, frykt ikke for å ta Maria til din kone, for barnet i henne er unnfanget ved Den Hellige Ånd.

But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

Alt dette skjedde for at det skulle oppfylles som Herren hadde sagt gjennom profeten:

Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,

"Se, en jomfru skal bli med barn og føde en sønn, og de skal gi ham navnet Immanuel," som betyr: Gud med oss.

Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

Da Josef våknet fra søvnen, gjorde han som Herrens engel hadde befalt ham, og tok henne til kone.

Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:

Men han levde ikke sammen med henne før hun hadde født sin førstefødte sønn; og han ga ham navnet JESUS.

And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.
