Da folket klaget, ble Herren misfornøyd. Herren hørte det, og hans vrede ble tent. Herrens ild brant blant dem og fortærte dem som var ytterst i leiren.

And when the people complained, it displeased the LORD: and the LORD heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the LORD burnt among them, and consumed them that were in the uttermost parts of the camp.

Folket ropte til Moses, og da Moses ba til Herren, sloknet ilden.

And the people cried unto Moses; and when Moses prayed unto the LORD, the fire was quenched.

Stedet ble kalt Taberah, fordi Herrens ild brant blant dem.

And he called the name of the place Taberah: because the fire of the LORD burnt among them.

Den sammensatte flokken blant dem begynte å begjære, og Israels barn gråt igjen og sa: Hvem vil gi oss kjøtt å spise?

And the mixt multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat?

Vi husker fisken vi spiste gratis i Egypt, agurkene, melonene, purrene, løkene og hvitløken.

We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick:

Men nå er vår sjel uttørket. Det finnes ingenting her, bortsett fra dette manna foran våre øyne.

But now our soul is dried away: there is nothing at all, beside this manna, before our eyes.

Mannaen var som korianderfrø, og fargen dens som harpiks.

And the manna was as coriander seed, and the colour thereof as the colour of bdellium.

Folket gikk rundt og samlet det, malte det i møller eller knuste det i mortere. De bakte det i panner og laget kaker av det. Det smakte som ny olje.

And the people went about, and gathered it, and ground it in mills, or beat it in a mortar, and baked it in pans, and made cakes of it: and the taste of it was as the taste of fresh oil.

Når doggen falt over leiren om natten, falt også mannaen over den.

And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell upon it.

Moses hørte folket gråte gjennom hele familien, hver mann ved inngangen til sitt telt. Herrens vrede ble veldig tent, og Moses var også misfornøyd.

Then Moses heard the people weep throughout their families, every man in the door of his tent: and the anger of the LORD was kindled greatly; Moses also was displeased.

Moses sa til Herren: Hvorfor har du plaget din tjener, og hvorfor har jeg ikke funnet nåde for dine øyne, siden du legger byrden av hele dette folket på meg?

And Moses said unto the LORD, Wherefore hast thou afflicted thy servant? and wherefore have I not found favour in thy sight, that thou layest the burden of all this people upon me?

Har jeg født hele dette folket? Har jeg skapt dem, så du skulle si til meg, Bær dem i ditt fang, som en fostermor bærer et lite barn, til landet du sverget til deres fedre?

Have I conceived all this people? have I begotten them, that thou shouldest say unto me, Carry them in thy bosom, as a rsing father beareth the sucking child, unto the land which thou swarest unto their fathers?

Hvorfra skal jeg få kjøtt til å gi hele dette folket? For de gråter til meg og sier: Gi oss kjøtt, så vi kan spise.

Whence should I have flesh to give unto all this people? for they weep unto me, saying, Give us flesh, that we may eat.

Jeg kan ikke bære hele dette folket alene, for det er for tungt for meg.

I am not able to bear all this people alone, because it is too heavy for me.

Hvis du behandler meg slik, så drep meg, jeg ber deg, hvis jeg har funnet nåde for dine øyne. La meg ikke se min elendighet.

And if thou deal thus with me, kill me, I pray thee, out of hand, if I have found favour in thy sight; and let me not see my wretchedness.

Herren sa til Moses: Samle for meg sytti menn av Israels eldste, som du vet er folkets eldste og ledere, og bring dem til møteteltet, så de kan stå der med deg.

And the LORD said unto Moses, Gather unto me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom thou knowest to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them unto the tabernacle of the congregation, that they may stand there with thee.

Jeg vil komme ned og tale med deg der. Jeg vil ta av den ånd som er over deg og legge den på dem, så de kan bære folkets byrde sammen med deg, så du ikke bærer den alene.

And I will come down and talk with thee there: and I will take of the spirit which is upon thee, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone.

Fortell folket: Hellige dere til i morgen, så dere skal få spise kjøtt. For dere har grått i Herrens ører og sagt: Hvem vil gi oss kjøtt å spise? Vi hadde det så godt i Egypt. Derfor vil Herren gi dere kjøtt, og dere skal spise.

And say thou unto the people, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow, and ye shall eat flesh: for ye have wept in the ears of the LORD, saying, Who shall give us flesh to eat? for it was well with us in Egypt: therefore the LORD will give you flesh, and ye shall eat.

Dere skal ikke spise en dag, eller to dager, eller fem dager, eller ti dager, eller tyve dager,

Ye shall not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, neither ten days, nor twenty days;

men en hel måned, til det kommer ut av neseborene deres, og det blir avskyelig for dere. For dere har foraktet Herren som er blant dere, og grått for ham, og sagt: Hvorfor dro vi ut av Egypt?

But even a whole month, until it come out at your nostrils, and it be loathsome unto you: because that ye have despised the LORD which is among you, and have wept before him, saying, Why came we forth out of Egypt?

Moses sa: Folket som jeg er blant, teller seks hundre tusen menn til fots, og du har sagt: Jeg vil gi dem kjøtt, så de kan spise en hel måned.

And Moses said, The people, among whom I am, are six hundred thousand footmen; and thou hast said, I will give them flesh, that they may eat a whole month.

Skal flokkene og buskapene slaktes for dem, så det er nok for dem? Eller skal alle havets fisk samles for dem, så det er nok for dem?

Shall the flocks and the herds be slain for them, to suffice them? or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to suffice them?

Herren sa til Moses: Er Herrens arm blitt for kort? Nå skal du se om mitt ord skal gå i oppfyllelse for deg eller ikke.

And the LORD said unto Moses, Is the LORD'S hand waxed short? thou shalt see now whether my word shall come to pass unto thee or not.

Moses gikk ut og fortalte folket Herrens ord. Han samlet de sytti eldste av folket og stilte dem rundt om møteteltet.

And Moses went out, and told the people the words of the LORD, and gathered the seventy men of the elders of the people, and set them round about the tabernacle.

Herren kom ned i skyen og talte til ham. Han tok noe av den ånd som var over Moses, og la den på de sytti eldste. Da ånden hvilte over dem, profeterte de, men de gjorde det ikke mer.

And the LORD came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.

To menn ble igjen i leiren. Den ene het Eldad, og den andre het Medad. Ånden hvilte over dem. De var blant dem som var skrevet opp, men de gikk ikke ut til møteteltet. De profeterte i leiren.

But there remained two of the men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the spirit rested upon them; and they were of them that were written, but went not out unto the tabernacle: and they prophesied in the camp.

En ung mann løp og fortalte Moses og sa: Eldad og Medad profeterer i leiren.

And there ran a young man, and told Moses, and said, Eldad and Medad do prophesy in the camp.

Josva, sønn av Nun, Moses' tjener, en av de unge mennene, svarte og sa: Min herre Moses, forby dem.

And Joshua the son of n, the servant of Moses, one of his young men, answered and said, My lord Moses, forbid them.

Moses sa til ham: Er du misunnelig for min skyld? Å, om bare hele Herrens folk var profeter, og at Herren ville legge sin ånd på dem!

And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all the LORD'S people were prophets, and that the LORD would put his spirit upon them!

Moses dro tilbake til leiren sammen med Israels eldste.

And Moses gat him into the camp, he and the elders of Israel.

Det kom en vind fra Herren og førte vaktler fra havet og lot dem falle nær leiren, omtrent en dagsreise på hver side, og omtrent to alen høy på jordens overflate.

And there went forth a wind from the LORD, and brought quails from the sea, and let them fall by the camp, as it were a day's journey on this side, and as it were a day's journey on the other side, round about the camp, and as it were two cubits high upon the face of the earth.

Folket sto opp hele den dagen, hele natten og hele neste dag, og samlet vaktlene. Den som samlet minst, samlet ti homer, og de spredte dem over hele leiren.

And the people stood up all that day, and all that night, and all the next day, and they gathered the quails: he that gathered least gathered ten homers: and they spread them all abroad for themselves round about the camp.

Mens kjøttet ennå var mellom tennene deres, før det var tygget ferdig, ble Herrens vrede tent mot folket, og Herren slo dem med en veldig plage.

And while the flesh was yet between their teeth, ere it was chewed, the wrath of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD smote the people with a very great plague.

Stedet ble kalt Kibrot-Hattaava, fordi de der begravde folket som hadde lysten.

And he called the name of that place Kibroth-hattaavah: because there they buried the people that lusted.

Folket dro fra Kibrot-Hattaava til Hazerot, og de ble værende i Hazerot.

And the people journeyed from Kibroth-hattaavah unto Hazeroth; and abode at Hazeroth.
