Korah, sønn av Jishar, sønn av Kahath, sønn av Levi, sammen med Datan og Abiram, sønnene til Eliab, og On, sønn av Pelet, Reubens sønner, tok med seg menn:

Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men:

De reiste seg mot Moses sammen med noen av Israels barn, to hundre og femti høvdinger av forsamlingen, berømte i menigheten, menn av anseelse:

And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown:

De samlet seg mot Moses og Aron og sa til dem: Dere tar for mye på dere, hele menigheten er hellig, hver eneste en av dem, og Herren er blant dem. Hvorfor hever dere dere over Herrens menighet?

And they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said unto them, Ye take too much upon you, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the LORD is among them: wherefore then lift ye up yourselves above the congregation of the LORD?

Da Moses hørte dette, falt han ned på sitt ansikt:

And when Moses heard it, he fell upon his face:

Og han sa til Korah og hele hans menighet: I morgen vil Herren vise hvem som er hans og hvem som er hellig, og han vil la den komme nær til seg, den som han har valgt, vil han la komme nær til seg.

And he spake unto Korah and unto all his company, saying, Even to morrow the LORD will shew who are his, and who is holy; and will cause him to come near unto him: even him whom he hath chosen will he cause to come near unto him.

Gjør dette: Ta røkelseskar, Korah, og hele hans menighet;

This do; Take you censers, Korah, and all his company;

Og legg ild i dem, og legg røkelse på dem for Herrens ansikt i morgen. Og den mannen som Herren utvelger, han skal være hellig: Dere tar for mye på dere, dere Levi's sønner.

And put fire therein, and put incense in them before the LORD to morrow: and it shall be that the man whom the LORD doth choose, he shall be holy: ye take too much upon you, ye sons of Levi.

Og Moses sa til Korah: Hør, jeg ber dere, Levi's sønner:

And Moses said unto Korah, Hear, I pray you, ye sons of Levi:

Er det en liten ting for dere at Israels Gud har skilt dere ut fra Israels menighet for å bringe dere nær til seg selv for å gjøre tjeneste i Herrens tabernakel og stå foran menigheten og tjene dem?

Seemeth it but a small thing unto you, that the God of Israel hath separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to himself to do the service of the tabernacle of the LORD, and to stand before the congregation to minister unto them?

Og han har brakt deg nær til seg, og alle dine brødre Levi's sønner med deg: og dere etterstreber også prestedømmet?

And he hath brought thee near to him, and all thy brethren the sons of Levi with thee: and seek ye the priesthood also?

Det er derfor både du og hele din menighet har samlet dere mot Herren: og hva er Aron, at dere knurrer mot ham?

For which cause both thou and all thy company are gathered together against the LORD: and what is Aaron, that ye murmur against him?

Og Moses sendte og kalte på Datan og Abiram, sønnene av Eliab, men de sa: Vi vil ikke komme opp.

And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab: which said, We will not come up:

Er det en liten ting at du har ført oss opp fra et land som flyter med melk og honning, for å drepe oss i villmarken, uten at du gjør deg selv helt til en høvding over oss?

Is it a small thing that thou hast brought us up out of a land that floweth with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, except thou make thyself altogether a prince over us?

Du har heller ikke ført oss til et land som flyter med melk og honning, eller gitt oss arveland med åkrer og vingårder: vil du stikke ut øynene på disse mennene? Vi vil ikke komme opp.

Moreover thou hast not brought us into a land that floweth with milk and honey, or given us inheritance of fields and vineyards: wilt thou put out the eyes of these men? we will not come up.

Og Moses ble meget vred og sa til Herren: Se ikke på deres offer: Jeg har ikke tatt en eneste esel fra dem, og jeg har ikke gjort skade på en eneste av dem.

And Moses was very wroth, and said unto the LORD, Respect not thou their offering: I have not taken one ass from them, neither have I hurt one of them.

Og Moses sa til Korah: Du og hele din menighet skal stå framfor Herrens ansikt i morgen, du, de og Aron.

And Moses said unto Korah, Be thou and all thy company before the LORD, thou, and they, and Aaron, to morrow:

Og ta hvert mann sitt røkelseskar, og legg røkelse i dem, og før dem framfor Herrens ansikt, hvert mann med sitt røkelseskar, to hundre og femti røkelseskar; du også, og Aron, hver med sitt røkelseskar.

And take every man his censer, and put incense in them, and bring ye before the LORD every man his censer, two hundred and fifty censers; thou also, and Aaron, each of you his censer.

Og de tok hvert mann sitt røkelseskar, la ild i dem, la røkelse på dem og stilte seg ved inngangen til tabernaklet for menigheten med Moses og Aron.

And they took every man his censer, and put fire in them, and laid incense thereon, and stood in the door of the tabernacle of the congregation with Moses and Aaron.

Og Korah samlet hele menigheten mot dem ved inngangen til tabernaklet for menigheten: og Herrens herlighet viste seg for hele menigheten.

And Korah gathered all the congregation against them unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto all the congregation.

Og Herren talte til Moses og til Aron og sa:

And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,

Skill dere ut fra denne menigheten, så jeg kan ødelegge dem i et øyeblikk.

Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment.

Og de falt ned på sine ansikter og sa: Å Gud, du alle kjøtts ånders Gud, skal en manns synd føre til at du er vred på hele menigheten?

And they fell upon their faces, and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and wilt thou be wroth with all the congregation?

Og Herren talte til Moses og sa:

And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

Si til menigheten: Trekk dere bort fra boligene til Korah, Datan og Abiram.

Speak unto the congregation, saying, Get you up from about the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.

Og Moses reiste seg og gikk mot Datan og Abiram, og Israels eldste fulgte ham.

And Moses rose up and went unto Dathan and Abiram; and the elders of Israel followed him.

Og han talte til menigheten og sa: Jeg ber dere, dra bort fra teltene til disse onde mennene og rør ikke noe som tilhører dem, så dere ikke blir ødelagt for alle deres synder.

And he spake unto the congregation, saying, Depart, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest ye be consumed in all their sins.

Så de trakk seg unna fra boligene til Korah, Datan og Abiram, på hver side: Og Datan og Abiram kom ut og sto ved inngangen til teltene sine, og med deres koner, deres sønner og de små barna.

So they gat up from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side: and Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood in the door of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their little children.

Og Moses sa: Ved dette skal dere vite at Herren har sendt meg til å gjøre alle disse gjerningene; for jeg har ikke gjort dem av egen vilje.

And Moses said, Hereby ye shall know that the LORD hath sent me to do all these works; for I have not done them of mine own mind.

Hvis disse mennene dør en vanlig død som alle mennesker, eller hvis de får den skjebne som er foreskrevet for alle mennesker, da har ikke Herren sendt meg.

If these men die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men; then the LORD hath not sent me.

Men hvis Herren skaper noe nytt, og jorden åpner sin munn og sluker dem, med alt som hører til dem, og de går levende ned i avgrunnen, da skal dere forstå at disse mennene har trotsig utfordret Herren.

But if the LORD make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain unto them, and they go down quick into the pit; then ye shall understand that these men have provoked the LORD.

Og det skjedde, da han hadde avsluttet å tale alle disse ordene, at jorden under dem delte seg i to.

And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them:

Og jorden åpnet sin munn og slukte dem, og deres hus, og alle mennesker som hørte til Korah, og alle deres eiendeler.

And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods.

De og alt som tilhørte dem, gikk ned levende i avgrunnen, og jorden lukket seg over dem: og de forsvant fra menigheten.

They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation.

Og hele Israel som var rundt dem flyktet ved deres rop: for de sa: La ikke jorden sluke oss også.

And all Israel that were round about them fled at the cry of them: for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up also.

Og det kom en ild fra Herren, og den fortærte de to hundre og femti menn som hadde ofret røkelse.

And there came out a fire from the LORD, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense.

Og Herren talte til Moses og sa:

And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

Si til Eleasar, sønnen til Aron, presten, at han samler røkelseskarrene ut av brannen, og spre ilden der borte; for de er hellige.

Speak unto Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, that he take up the censers out of the burning, and scatter thou the fire yonder; for they are hallowed.

Røkelseskarrene til disse syndere mot deres egne sjeler, la dem lage store plater for å dekke alteret: for de ofret dem for Herrens ansikt, derfor er de hellige: og de skal være et tegn for Israels barn.

The censers of these sinners against their own souls, let them make them broad plates for a covering of the altar: for they offered them before the LORD, therefore they are hallowed: and they shall be a sign unto the children of Israel.

Og Eleasar presten tok kobberkarrene som de som ble brent hadde ofret; og de ble laget til store plater for å dekke alteret:

And Eleazar the priest took the brasen censers, wherewith they that were burnt had offered; and they were made broad plates for a covering of the altar:

Til minne for Israels barn, at ingen fremmed, som ikke er av Arons ætt, skal nærme seg for å ofre røkelse for Herrens ansikt; for han skal ikke bli som Korah og hans menighet: som Herren talte til ham ved Moses’ hånd.

To be a memorial unto the children of Israel, that no stranger, which is not of the seed of Aaron, come near to offer incense before the LORD; that he be not as Korah, and as his company: as the LORD said to him by the hand of Moses.

Men dagen etter knurret hele menigheten av Israels barn mot Moses og Aron og sa: Dere har drept Herrens folk.

But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye have killed the people of the LORD.

Og det skjedde, da menigheten var samlet mot Moses og Aron, at de vendte seg mot tabernaklet for menigheten: se, skyen dekket det, og Herrens herlighet viste seg.

And it came to pass, when the congregation was gathered against Moses and against Aaron, that they looked toward the tabernacle of the congregation: and, behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the LORD appeared.

Og Moses og Aron gikk foran tabernaklet for menigheten.

And Moses and Aaron came before the tabernacle of the congregation.

Og Herren talte til Moses og sa:

And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

Gå bort fra denne menigheten, så jeg kan ødelegge dem i et øyeblikk. Og de falt ned på sine ansikter.

Get you up from among this congregation, that I may consume them as in a moment. And they fell upon their faces.

Og Moses sa til Aron: Ta et røkelseskar og legg ild i det fra alteret, legg på røkelse, og gå raskt til menigheten og gjør soning for dem: for det er vrede gått ut fra Herren; plagen har begynt.

And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on incense, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make an atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from the LORD; the plague is begun.

Og Aron tok som Moses befalte, og løp inn midt i menigheten; se, plagen var begynt blant folket: han la røkelse på og gjorde soning for folket.

And Aaron took as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the congregation; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people: and he put on incense, and made an atonement for the people.

Og han stod mellom de døde og de levende; og plagen ble stoppet.

And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed.

Nå var de som døde i plagen fjorten tusen og syv hundre, foruten dem som døde i saken om Korah.

Now they that died in the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, beside them that died about the matter of Korah.

Og Aron vendte tilbake til Moses ved inngangen til tabernaklet for menigheten: og plagen ble stoppet.

And Aaron returned unto Moses unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the plague was stayed.
