Og Bileam sa til Balak: Bygg meg her syv altrene, og gjør i stand syv okser og syv værer.

And Balaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven oxen and seven rams.

Og Balak gjorde som Bileam hadde sagt, og Balak og Bileam ofret en okse og en vær på hvert alter.

And Balak did as Balaam had spoken; and Balak and Balaam offered on every altar a bullock and a ram.

Og Bileam sa til Balak: Stå her ved ditt brennoffer, så vil jeg gå avsted; kanskje Herren vil komme og møte meg, og hva han viser meg, vil jeg fortelle deg. Og han gikk opp til et høyt sted.

And Balaam said unto Balak, Stand by thy burnt offering, and I will go: peradventure the LORD will come to meet me: and whatsoever he sheweth me I will tell thee. And he went to an high place.

Og Gud møtte Bileam, og han sa til ham: Jeg har gjort i stand syv altrene, og jeg har ofret en okse og en vær på hvert alter.

And God met Balaam: and he said unto him, I have prepared seven altars, and I have offered upon every altar a bullock and a ram.

Og Herren la et ord i Bileams munn og sa: Vend tilbake til Balak, og slik skal du tale.

And the LORD put a word in Balaam's mouth, and said, Return unto Balak, and thus thou shalt speak.

Og han vendte tilbake til ham, og se, han sto ved sitt brennoffer, han og alle Moabs fyrster.

And he returned unto him, and, lo, he stood by his burnt sacrifice, he, and all the princes of Moab.

Og han begynte sin tale og sa: Balak, Moabs konge, har hentet meg fra Aram, fra fjellene i øst, og sagt: Kom, forbann Jakob for meg, og kom, fordøm Israel!

And he took up his parable, and said, Balak the king of Moab hath brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse me Jacob, and come, defy Israel.

Hvordan kan jeg forbanne den Gud ikke har forbannet? Eller hvordan kan jeg fordømme den Herren ikke har fordømt?

How shall I curse, whom God hath not cursed? or how shall I defy, whom the LORD hath not defied?

For fra toppen av klippene ser jeg ham, og fra høydene skuer jeg ham; se, folket skal bo alene, og skal ikke regnes blant nasjonene.

For from the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him: lo, the people shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations.

Hvem kan telle Jakobs støv, og tallet på en fjerdepart av Israel? La meg dø de rettferdiges død, og la min siste ende bli som hans!

Who can count the dust of Jacob, and the mber of the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his!

Og Balak sa til Bileam: Hva har du gjort mot meg? Jeg hentet deg for å forbanne mine fiender, og se, du har velsignet dem helt og holdent.

And Balak said unto Balaam, What hast thou done unto me? I took thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast blessed them altogether.

Og han svarte og sa: Må jeg ikke ta hensyn til å tale det som Herren har lagt i min munn?

And he answered and said, Must I not take heed to speak that which the LORD hath put in my mouth?

Og Balak sa til ham: Kom, jeg ber deg, med meg til et annet sted, hvor du kan se dem; du skal bare se den ytterste delen av dem, og du skal ikke se dem alle: og forbann dem for meg derfra.

And Balak said unto him, Come, I pray thee, with me unto another place, from whence thou mayest see them: thou shalt see but the utmost part of them, and shalt not see them all: and curse me them from thence.

Og han førte ham til Zofims mark, til toppen av Pisga, og bygde syv altrene, og ofret en okse og en vær på hvert alter.

And he brought him into the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.

Og han sa til Balak: Stå her ved ditt brennoffer mens jeg møter Herren der borte.

And he said unto Balak, Stand here by thy burnt offering, while I meet the LORD yonder.

Og Herren møtte Bileam og la et ord i hans munn, og sa: Gå igjen til Balak, og si slik.

And the LORD met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, Go again unto Balak, and say thus.

Og da han kom til ham, se, han sto ved sitt brennoffer, med Moabs fyrster med ham. Og Balak sa til ham: Hva har Herren talt?

And when he came to him, behold, he stood by his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab with him. And Balak said unto him, What hath the LORD spoken?

Og han begynte sin tale og sa: Reis deg, Balak, og hør; lytt til meg, du Sippors sønn:

And he took up his parable, and said, Rise up, Balak, and hear; hearken unto me, thou son of Zippor:

Gud er ikke et menneske, så han lyver, ei heller et menneskebarn, så han ombestemmer seg: har han sagt noe, og gjør det ikke? Eller har han talt, og vil ikke gjøre det til virkelighet?

God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

Se, jeg har fått oppdrag om å velsigne; og han har velsignet, og jeg kan ikke gjøre det om.

Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and he hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it.

Han har ikke sett noe urett i Jakob, heller ikke sett noen ondskap i Israel: Herren deres Gud er med dem, og kongens rop er blant dem.

He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel: the LORD his God is with him, and the shout of a king is among them.

Gud førte dem ut av Egypt; han har en styrke som en villokse.

God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn.

Sannelig, det finnes ingen trolldom mot Jakob, ei heller spådom mot Israel: det skal nå sies om Jakob og om Israel: Hva har Gud gjort!

Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel: according to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What hath God wrought!

Se, folket skal reise seg som en stor løve, og løfte seg som en ung løve: han skal ikke legge seg før han har fortært byttet, og drukket blodet av de drepte.

Behold, the people shall rise up as a great lion, and lift up himself as a young lion: he shall not lie down until he eat of the prey, and drink the blood of the slain.

Og Balak sa til Bileam: Ikke forbann dem i det hele tatt, heller ikke velsigne dem i det hele tatt.

And Balak said unto Balaam, Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all.

Men Bileam svarte og sa til Balak: Har jeg ikke sagt til deg at alt Herren taler, det må jeg gjøre?

But Balaam answered and said unto Balak, Told not I thee, saying, All that the LORD speaketh, that I must do?

Og Balak sa til Bileam: Kom, jeg ber deg, jeg vil føre deg til et annet sted; kanskje det vil behage Gud at du kan forbanne dem for meg derfra.

And Balak said unto Balaam, Come, I pray thee, I will bring thee unto another place; peradventure it will please God that thou mayest curse me them from thence.

Og Balak tok Bileam til toppen av Peor, som vender mot Jesjimon.

And Balak brought Balaam unto the top of Peor, that looketh toward Jeshimon.

Og Bileam sa til Balak: Bygg meg her syv altrene, og gjør i stand syv okser og syv værer.

And Balaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bullocks and seven rams.
