Da sa svigermoren hennes, Naomi, til henne: Min datter, skal jeg ikke søke et hjem for deg, så du kan få det godt?

Then Naomi her mother in law said unto her, My daughter, shall I not seek rest for thee, that it may be well with thee?

Og er ikke Boaz vår slektning, han som du var sammen med tjenerinnene hans? Se, i natt rensker han bygg på treskeplassen.

And now is not Boaz of our kindred, with whose maidens thou wast? Behold, he winnoweth barley to night in the threshingfloor.

Vask deg derfor, salv deg og ta på klærne dine, og gå ned til treskeplassen. Men gjør deg ikke kjent for mannen før han har spist og drukket.

Wash thyself therefore, and anoint thee, and put thy raiment upon thee, and get thee down to the floor: but make not thyself known unto the man, until he shall have done eating and drinking.

Og det skal skje at når han legger seg, skal du merke deg stedet hvor han ligger, gå inn, løft teppet ved føttene hans, og legg deg der. Så vil han fortelle deg hva du skal gjøre.

And it shall be, when he lieth down, that thou shalt mark the place where he shall lie, and thou shalt go in, and uncover his feet, and lay thee down; and he will tell thee what thou shalt do.

Hun sa til henne: Alt du sier til meg, vil jeg gjøre.

And she said unto her, All that thou sayest unto me I will do.

Hun gikk ned til treskeplassen og gjorde alt som hennes svigermor hadde befalt henne.

And she went down unto the floor, and did according to all that her mother in law bade her.

Og da Boaz hadde spist og drukket, og hans hjerte var lystig, gikk han for å legge seg ved enden av korndyngen. Hun kom stille, løftet teppet ved føttene hans og la seg der.

And when Boaz had eaten and dnk, and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of corn: and she came softly, and uncovered his feet, and laid her down.

Da det ble midnatt, ble mannen redd og vendte seg om, og se, en kvinne lå ved føttene hans.

And it came to pass at midnight, that the man was afraid, and turned himself: and, behold, a woman lay at his feet.

Han sa: Hvem er du? Hun svarte: Jeg er din tjenestekvinne Rut. Bre dine vinger over din tjenestekvinne, for du er min nærmeste slektning.

And he said, Who art thou? And she answered, I am th thine handmaid: spread therefore thy skirt over thine handmaid; for thou art a near kinsman.

Han sa: Velsignet være du av Herren, min datter! Din siste kjærlighet er enda større enn den første, siden du ikke har fulgt de unge menn, enten fattige eller rike.

And he said, Blessed be thou of the LORD, my daughter: for thou hast shewed more kindness in the latter end than at the beginning, inasmuch as thou followedst not young men, whether poor or rich.

Nå, min datter, frykt ikke; jeg vil gjøre alt hvad du ønsker. For hele folket i byen vet at du er en ærbar kvinne.

And now, my daughter, fear not; I will do to thee all that thou requirest: for all the city of my people doth know that thou art a virtuous woman.

Nå er det sant at jeg er din nærmeste slektning, men det er en slektning nærmere enn meg.

And now it is te that I am thy near kinsman: howbeit there is a kinsman nearer than I.

Bli her i natt, og det skal bli slik at hvis han vil utøve sin slektsrett overfor deg i morgen, la ham gjøre det. Men hvis han ikke vil, så vil jeg gjøre det, så sant Herren lever. Ligg til morgenen.

Tarry this night, and it shall be in the morning, that if he will perform unto thee the part of a kinsman, well; let him do the kinsman's part: but if he will not do the part of a kinsman to thee, then will I do the part of a kinsman to thee, as the LORD liveth: lie down until the morning.

Hun lå ved føttene hans til morgen og sto opp før noen kunne gjenkjenne den andre. Han sa: La det ikke bli kjent at en kvinne kom til treskeplassen.

And she lay at his feet until the morning: and she rose up before one could know another. And he said, Let it not be known that a woman came into the floor.

Han sa også: Ta sløret du har på deg, og hold det frem. Da hun holdt det, målte han seks mål bygg og la det på henne, og hun gikk inn i byen.

Also he said, Bring the vail that thou hast upon thee, and hold it. And when she held it, he measured six measures of barley, and laid it on her: and she went into the city.

Da hun kom til sin svigermor, sa hun: Hvem er du, min datter? Hun fortalte henne alt mannen hadde gjort for henne.

And when she came to her mother in law, she said, Who art thou, my daughter? And she told her all that the man had done to her.

Hun sa: Disse seks målene bygg ga han meg, for han sa til meg: Gå ikke tomhendt til din svigermor.

And she said, These six measures of barley gave he me; for he said to me, Go not empty unto thy mother in law.

Da sa hun: Sitt stille, min datter, til du vet hvordan saken vil falle ut, for mannen vil ikke ha ro før han har fullført saken i dag.

Then said she, Sit still, my daughter, until thou know how the matter will fall: for the man will not be in rest, until he have finished the thing this day.
