Verse 1
At the end of two full years, Pharaoh had a dream, and saw himself standing by the river.
And it came to pass at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed: and, behold, he stood by the river.
Verse 2
And saw seven well-favored and fat-fleshed cows come up out of the river, and they grazed in a meadow.
And, behold, there came up out of the river seven well favoured kine and fatfleshed; and they fed in a meadow.
Verse 3
Then seven other cows, poor and thin-fleshed, came up after them out of the river, and stood by the other cows on the bank of the river.
And, behold, seven other kine came up after them out of the river, ill favoured and leanfleshed; and stood by the other kine upon the brink of the river.
Verse 4
And the poor and thin-fleshed cows ate up the seven well-favored and fat cows. So Pharaoh awoke.
And the ill favoured and leanfleshed kine did eat up the seven well favoured and fat kine. So Pharaoh awoke.
Verse 5
Then he slept and dreamed a second time, and saw seven ears of corn come up on one stalk, full and ripe.
And he slept and dreamed the second time: and, behold, seven ears of corn came up upon one stalk, rank and good.
Verse 6
Then seven ears, thin and scorched by the east wind, sprouted up after them.
And, behold, seven thin ears and blasted with the east wind sprung up after them.
Verse 7
And the thin ears swallowed the seven full and ripe ears. Then Pharaoh awoke, and indeed, it was a dream.
And the seven thin ears devoured the seven rank and full ears. And Pharaoh awoke, and, behold, it was a dream.
Verse 8
In the morning, his spirit was troubled, so he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt and all its wise men. Pharaoh told them his dreams, but no one could interpret them for Pharaoh.
And it came to pass in the morning that his spirit was troubled; and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt, and all the wise men thereof: and Pharaoh told them his dream; but there was none that could interpret them unto Pharaoh.
Verse 9
Then the chief butler spoke to Pharaoh, saying, I do remember my faults this day:

Verse 10
Pharaoh was angry with his servants, and put me in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, both me and the chief baker.
Pharaoh was wroth with his servants, and put me in ward in the captain of the guard's house, both me and the chief baker:
Verse 11
And we each had a dream in one night, he and I; each of us dreamed according to the interpretation of his own dream.
And we dreamed a dream in one night, I and he; we dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream.
Verse 12
There with us was a young Hebrew man, a servant of the captain of the guard, and we told him our dreams, and he interpreted them for us, to each man according to his dream.
And there was there with us a young man, an Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard; and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams; to each man according to his dream he did interpret.
Verse 13
And it came to pass, just as he interpreted for us, so it was; he restored me to my office, and he hanged the other.
And it came to pass, as he interpreted to us, so it was; me he restored unto mine office, and him he hanged.
Verse 14
Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him quickly out of the dungeon; and he shaved, changed his clothes, and came to Pharaoh.
Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon: and he shaved himself, and changed his raiment, and came in unto Pharaoh.
Verse 15
And Pharaoh said to Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is no one who can interpret it. But I have heard it said of you, that you can understand a dream to interpret it.
And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it: and I have heard say of thee, that thou canst understand a dream to interpret it.
Verse 16
So Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh an answer of peace.
And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.
Verse 17
Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, In my dream, I stood on the bank of the river.
And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, In my dream, behold, I stood upon the bank of the river:
Verse 18
And saw seven cows come up out of the river, fat-fleshed and well-favored, and they grazed in a meadow.
And, behold, there came up out of the river seven kine, fatfleshed and well favoured; and they fed in a meadow:
Verse 19
Then seven other cows came up after them, poor, very ugly and thin, which I had never seen in all the land of Egypt for ugliness.
And, behold, seven other kine came up after them, poor and very ill favoured and leanfleshed, such as I never saw in all the land of Egypt for badness:
Verse 20
And the thin and ugly cows ate up the first seven fat cows.
And the lean and the ill favoured kine did eat up the first seven fat kine:
Verse 21
When they had devoured them, it could not be known that they had eaten them, for they were still as ugly as before. So I awoke.
And when they had eaten them up, it could not be known that they had eaten them; but they were still ill favoured, as at the beginning. So I awoke.
Verse 22
Then I saw in my dream, and saw seven ears come up on one stalk, full and good.
And I saw in my dream, and, behold, seven ears came up in one stalk, full and good:
Verse 23
Then seven ears, withered, thin, and scorched by the east wind, sprouted up after them.
And, behold, seven ears, withered, thin, and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them:
Verse 24
And the thin ears devoured the seven good ears. So I told this to the magicians, but no one could explain it to me.
And the thin ears devoured the seven good ears: and I told this unto the magicians; but there was none that could declare it to me.
Verse 25
Then Joseph said to Pharaoh, The dreams of Pharaoh are one; God has shown Pharaoh what He is about to do.
And Joseph said unto Pharaoh, The dream of Pharaoh is one: God hath shewed Pharaoh what he is about to do.
Verse 26
The seven good cows are seven years, and the seven good ears are seven years; the dreams are one.
The seven good kine are seven years; and the seven good ears are seven years: the dream is one.
Verse 27
And the seven thin and ugly cows that came up after them are seven years, and the seven empty ears scorched by the east wind shall be seven years of famine.
And the seven thin and ill favoured kine that came up after them are seven years; and the seven empty ears blasted with the east wind shall be seven years of famine.
Verse 28
This is the thing that I have spoken to Pharaoh. God has shown Pharaoh what He is about to do.
This is the thing which I have spoken unto Pharaoh: What God is about to do he sheweth unto Pharaoh.
Verse 29
Seven years of great abundance will come throughout all the land of Egypt.
Behold, there come seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt:
Verse 30
But after them seven years of famine will arise, and all the abundance will be forgotten in the land of Egypt, and the famine will consume the land.
And there shall arise after them seven years of famine; and all the plenty shall be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine shall consume the land;
Verse 31
The abundance in the land will not be known because of the famine that will follow, for it will be very severe.
And the plenty shall not be known in the land by reason of that famine following; for it shall be very grievous.
Verse 32
As for the dream being repeated to Pharaoh twice, it means that the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.
And for that the dream was doubled unto Pharaoh twice; it is because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.
Verse 33
Now therefore, let Pharaoh select a discerning and wise man, and set him over the land of Egypt.
Now therefore let Pharaoh look out a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt.
Verse 34
Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land to collect one-fifth of the produce of the land of Egypt in the seven plentiful years.
Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven plenteous years.
Verse 35
Let them gather all the food of those good years that are coming, and store up grain under Pharaoh's authority, and let them keep food in the cities.
And let them gather all the food of those good years that come, and lay up corn under the hand of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities.
Verse 36
This food shall be in reserve for the land for the seven years of famine which shall be in the land of Egypt, that the land may not perish during the famine.
And that food shall be for store to the land against the seven years of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; that the land perish not through the famine.
Verse 37
The proposal was good in the eyes of Pharaoh and in the eyes of all his servants.
And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants.
Verse 38
And Pharaoh said to his servants, Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom is the Spirit of God?
And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?
Verse 39
Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, Inasmuch as God has shown you all this, there is no one as discerning and wise as you.
And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art:
Verse 40
You shall be over my house, and all my people shall be ruled according to your word; only in regard to the throne will I be greater than you.
Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou.
Verse 41
And Pharaoh said to Joseph, See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.
And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.
Verse 42
Then Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it on Joseph's hand; and he dressed him in garments of fine linen and put a gold chain around his neck.
And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck;
Verse 43
And he had him ride in the second chariot which he had, and they cried out before him, Bow the knee; thus he set him over all the land of Egypt.
And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt.
Verse 44
Pharaoh also said to Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without your consent no man may lift his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.
And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without thee shall no man lift up his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.
Verse 45
And Pharaoh called Joseph's name Zaphnath-Paaneah and gave him as a wife Asenath, the daughter of Poti-Pherah priest of On. So Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt.
And Pharaoh called Joseph's name Zaphnathpaaneah; and he gave him to wife Asenath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On. And Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt.
Verse 46
Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh and traveled throughout all the land of Egypt.

Verse 47
During the seven plentiful years the earth produced abundantly.
And in the seven plenteous years the earth brought forth by handfuls.
Verse 48
So he gathered up all the food of the seven years that were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities; he laid up in every city the food of the fields which surrounded them.
And he gathered up all the food of the seven years, which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities: the food of the field, which was round about every city, laid he up in the same.
Verse 49
Joseph gathered very much grain, as the sand of the sea, until he stopped measuring it, for it was beyond measure.
And Joseph gathered corn as the sand of the sea, very much, until he left numbering; for it was without number.
Verse 50
To Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, whom Asenath, the daughter of Poti-Pherah priest of On, bore to him.
And unto Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, which Asenath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On bare unto him.
Verse 51
Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh, For God, he said, has made me forget all my toil and all my father's house.
And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: For God, said he, hath made me forget all my toil, and all my father's house.
Verse 52
He called the name of the second Ephraim, For God has caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.
And the name of the second called he Ephraim: For God hath caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.
Verse 53
The seven years of abundance which were in the land of Egypt ended.
And the seven years of plenteousness, that was in the land of Egypt, were ended.
Verse 54
And the seven years of famine began, just as Joseph had said. The famine was in all lands, but in all the land of Egypt there was bread.
And the seven years of dearth began to come, according as Joseph had said: and the dearth was in all lands; but in all the land of Egypt there was bread.
Verse 55
When all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread. Then Pharaoh said to all the Egyptians, Go to Joseph; whatever he says to you, do.
And when all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread: and Pharaoh said unto all the Egyptians, Go unto Joseph; what he saith to you, do.
Verse 56
The famine was over all the face of the earth; and Joseph opened all the storehouses and sold to the Egyptians. The famine became severe in the land of Egypt.
And the famine was over all the face of the earth: And Joseph opened all the storehouses, and sold unto the Egyptians; and the famine waxed sore in the land of Egypt.
Verse 57
All countries came into Egypt to Joseph to buy grain, because the famine was so severe in all the lands.
And all countries came into Egypt to Joseph for to buy corn; because that the famine was so sore in all lands.
