Verse 1
Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,
Verse 2
Can a person be beneficial to God, as one who is wise may benefit themselves?
Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself?
Verse 3
Is it any pleasure to the Almighty that you are righteous? Or is it gain to Him that you make your ways perfect?
Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? or is it gain to him, that thou makest thy ways perfect?
Verse 4
Will He correct you for fear of you? Will He enter into judgment with you?
Will he reprove thee for fear of thee? will he enter with thee into judgment?
Verse 5
Is not your wickedness great, and your iniquities infinite?
Is not thy wickedness great? and thine iniquities infinite?
Verse 6
For you have taken a pledge from your brother for nothing, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing.

You have not given water to the weary to drink, and you have withheld bread from the hungry.

But as for the mighty man, he possessed the land; and the honorable man lived in it.

You have sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.

Therefore snares are all around you, and sudden fear troubles you;

Or darkness, that you cannot see; and an abundance of waters covers you.

Verse 12
Is not God in the height of heaven? And behold the height of the stars, how high they are!

Verse 13
And you say, 'How does God know? Can He judge through the dense cloud?
And thou sayest, How doth God know? can he judge through the dark cloud?

Thick clouds are a covering to Him, so that He does not see; and He walks on the circuit of heaven.'

Have you marked the old way which wicked men have trodden,

Who were cut down before their time, whose foundations were swept away by a flood?
Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood:
Verse 17
They said to God, 'Depart from us,' and 'What can the Almighty do for us?'
Which said unto God, Depart from us: and what can the Almighty do for them?
Verse 18
Yet He filled their houses with good things; but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

The righteous see it and are glad, and the innocent laugh them to scorn.

Our substance is not cut down, but the remnant of them the fire consumes.

Acquaint yourself with Him now and be at peace; thereby good will come to you.

Receive, I pray you, the law from His mouth, and lay up His words in your heart.

If you return to the Almighty, you shall be built up, and you shall put away iniquity far from your tents.
If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles.
Verse 24
Then you shall lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.
Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.
Verse 25
Yes, the Almighty shall be your defense, and you shall have plenty of silver.
Yea, the Almighty shall be thy defence, and thou shalt have plenty of silver.
Verse 26
For then you shall have your delight in the Almighty, and lift up your face to God.
For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God.
Verse 27
You shall make your prayer to Him, and He shall hear you, and you shall pay your vows.
Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows.
Verse 28
You shall also decree a thing, and it shall be established for you, and light shall shine upon your ways.
Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.
Verse 29
When they cast down, then you shall say, 'There is lifting up;' and He shall save the humble person.
When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person.
Verse 30
He shall deliver the island of the innocent; and it is delivered by the purity of your hands.
