Do you know the time when the wild goats of the rock give birth? Or can you mark when the deer give birth?
Knowest thou the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? or canst thou mark when the hinds do calve?

Can you count the months they fulfill? Or do you know the time when they give birth?
Canst thou number the months that they fulfil? or knowest thou the time when they bring forth?

They crouch down, they bring forth their young, they cast out their labor pains.
They bow themselves, they bring forth their young ones, they cast out their sorrows.

Their young ones grow strong, they grow up in the open; they go forth and do not return to them.
Their young ones are in good liking, they grow up with corn; they go forth, and return not unto them.

Who has set the wild donkey free? Or who has loosed the bonds of the wild donkey?
Who hath sent out the wild ass free? or who hath loosed the bands of the wild ass?

Whose home I have made the wilderness, and the barren land his dwelling.

He mocks the city's throng, nor does he heed the driver's shout.
He scorneth the multitude of the city, neither regardeth he the crying of the driver.

Will the wild ox be willing to serve you, or remain by your manger?

Can you bind the wild ox in the furrow with ropes? Or will he plow the valleys behind you?
Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee?

Will you trust him because his strength is great? Or will you leave your labor to him?
Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? or wilt thou leave thy labour to him?

Will you rely on him to bring home your grain and gather it into your barn?
Wilt thou believe him, that he will bring home thy seed, and gather it into thy barn?

Did you give the peacock its splendid wings, or the ostrich its feathers?
Gavest thou the goodly wings unto the peacocks? or wings and feathers unto the ostrich?

It leaves its eggs on the ground, and warms them in the dust,
Which leaveth her eggs in the earth, and warmeth them in dust,

And forgets that a foot may crush them, or that a wild beast may break them.

She is harsh toward her young, as if they were not hers; her labor is in vain, without fear;

Because God has deprived her of wisdom, nor has He imparted to her understanding.

When she lifts herself on high, she laughs at the horse and its rider.
What time she lifteth up herself on high, she scorneth the horse and his rider.

Have you given the horse its strength? Have you clothed its neck with a mane?
Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder?

Can you make it leap like a locust? Its majestic snorting is terrifying.
Canst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils is terrible.
Verse 21
It paws in the valley and rejoices in its strength; it charges into the throng of battle.
He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men.

It laughs at fear and is not dismayed; it does not turn back from the sword.
He mocketh at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword.

The quiver rattles against it, the flashing spear and the javelin.

It devours the ground with fierceness and rage; it cannot stand still at the sound of the trumpet.
He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believeth he that it is the sound of the trumpet.

At the blast of the trumpets, it says, 'Ha, ha!' It smells the battle from afar, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.

Does the hawk fly by your wisdom, and stretch its wings toward the south?
Doth the hawk fly by thy wisdom, and stretch her wings toward the south?

Does the eagle mount up at your command, and make its nest on high?

It dwells on the rock and resides on the crag of the rock, in the stronghold.
She dwelleth and abideth on the rock, upon the crag of the rock, and the strong place.

From there it seeks its prey, and its eyes see afar off.

Its young ones also drink blood; and where the slain are, there it is.
