Verse 1
Then the Pharisees and some of the scribes came together to him, who came from Jerusalem.

And when they saw some of his disciples eat bread with defiled, that is, with unwashed hands, they found fault.

Verse 5
Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why do your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashed hands?

He answered and said to them, Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.

However, in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.

For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men, such as the washing of pots and cups; and many other similar things you do.

And he said to them, You completely reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your own tradition.
And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

For Moses said, Honor your father and your mother; and, Whoever curses father or mother, let him be put to death.
For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death:
Verse 11
But you say, If a man says to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is, a gift to God, by which you might have been benefited by me; he shall be free.
But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free.
Verse 12
And you no longer allow him to do anything for his father or his mother,
And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother;
Verse 13
Making the word of God of no effect through your tradition, which you have handed down; and you do many similar things.

And when he had called all the people to him, he said to them, Listen to me, every one of you, and understand:

There is nothing that enters a man from outside which can defile him; but the things which come out of him, those are what defile a man.
There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man.
Verse 16
If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.
If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.

And when he had entered a house away from the crowd, his disciples asked him concerning the parable.
And when he was entered into the house from the people, his disciples asked him concerning the parable.

And he said to them, Are you also without understanding? Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile him,
And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him;
Verse 19
Because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is eliminated, purging all foods?
Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats?
Verse 20
And he said, What comes out of a man is what defiles a man.
And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man.
Verse 21
For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,

Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:

Verse 23
All these evil things come from within and defile a man.

Verse 24
From there he arose and went to the region of Tyre and Sidon, and entered a house, and did not want anyone to know it; but he could not be hidden.
And from thence he arose, and went into the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and entered into an house, and would have no man know it: but he could not be hid.
Verse 25
For a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard about him, and came and fell at his feet.

The woman was a Greek, a Syrophoenician by birth; and she begged him to cast the demon out of her daughter.

But Jesus said to her, Let the children be filled first, for it is not appropriate to take the children's bread and toss it to the dogs.

And she answered and said to him, Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs under the table eat from the children's crumbs.

Verse 29
And he said to her, For this saying, go your way; the demon has left your daughter.
And he said unto her, For this saying go thy way; the devil is gone out of thy daughter.
Verse 30
And when she had come to her house, she found the demon gone out, and her daughter lying on the bed.
And when she was come to her house, she found the devil gone out, and her daughter laid upon the bed.
Verse 31
Departing from the region of Tyre and Sidon, he went to the Sea of Galilee, through the region of Decapolis.
And again, departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis.
Verse 32
And they brought to him one who was deaf and had difficulty speaking, and they pleaded with him to put his hand on him.
And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him.
Verse 33
And he took him aside from the multitude, put his fingers in his ears, and spat and touched his tongue.

Then looking up to heaven, he sighed and said to him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened.

Immediately his ears were opened, and the impediment of his tongue was loosed, and he spoke plainly.
And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain.
Verse 36
And he instructed them not to tell anyone, but the more he instructed them, the more widely they proclaimed it.
And he charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it;
Verse 37
And they were exceedingly astonished, saying, He has done all things well; he makes both the deaf to hear and the mute to speak.
And were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.
