Verse 4

For to him who is joined with all the living there is hope; for a living dog is better than a dead lion.

Job 14:7-9 : 7 "For there is hope for a tree, If it is cut down, that it will sprout again, That the tender branch of it will not cease. 8 Though the root of it grows old in the earth, And the stock of it dies in the ground; 9 Yet through the scent of water it will bud, And put forth boughs like a plant. 10 But man dies, and is laid low. Yes, man gives up the spirit, and where is he? 11 As the waters fail from the sea, And the river wastes and dries up, 12 So man lies down and doesn't rise; Until the heavens are no more, they shall not awake, Nor be roused out of their sleep.
Job 27:8 : 8 For what is the hope of the godless, when he is cut off, When God takes away his life?
Isa 38:18 : 18 For Sheol can't praise you, death can't celebrate you: Those who go down into the pit can't hope for your truth.
Lam 3:21-22 : 21 This I recall to my mind; therefore have I hope. 22 [It is of] Yahweh's loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn't fail.
