ከዚያም ያዕቆብ ለወንድሙ ለኤሳው ምግብና ክት ሰጠው፤ እስኪጠግብ ድረስ በላ። ኤሳው የበኵርነቱን መብት ንቀ። ስለዚህ ስሙ ኤሳውና ኤዶም ተባለ፤ ይህም ያዕቆብ የበኵርነቱን መብት በመተካት ስለ ሰጠው የስንዴ ክት ነበር።
