And once again, Jesus went into Capernaum, and after some days, it was reported that he was at home.

Straks samlet det seg mange, så det ikke lenger var plass, ikke engang ved døren, og han talte Ordet til dem.

And immediately, many people gathered together, so there was no more room, not even near the door, and he was teaching them the word.

Og de kom til ham med en lam mann som ble båret av fire.

And they came to him, bringing a paralyzed man who was being carried by four people.

Da de ikke kunne komme nær ham på grunn av folkemengden, avdekket de taket der han var, og da de hadde gravd det opp, senket de ned sengen som den lamme lå på.

And because they could not get near him due to the crowd, they removed the roof above where he was, and after digging through it, they lowered the mat on which the paralyzed man was lying.

Da Jesus så deres tro, sa han til den lamme: "Sønn, dine synder er tilgitt."

When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, 'Child, your sins are forgiven.'

Men noen av de skriftlærde satt der og tenkte i sine hjerter:

Now some of the scribes were sitting there, reasoning in their hearts,

"Hvorfor taler denne mannen slik? Han spotter Gud. Hvem kan tilgi synder utenom Gud?"

‘Why does this man speak like this? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?’

Straks oppfattet Jesus i sin ånd at de tenkte slik i seg selv, og han sa til dem: "Hvorfor tenker dere slike ting i deres hjerter?"

And immediately, Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they were reasoning within themselves in this way, said to them, 'Why are you thinking these things in your hearts?'

Hva er lettere, å si til den lamme: 'Dine synder er tilgitt,' eller å si: 'Stå opp, ta din seng og gå'?"

‘Which is easier: to say to the paralyzed man, “Your sins are forgiven,” or to say, “Get up, take your mat, and walk”? ’

Men for at dere skal vite at Menneskesønnen har makt på jorden til å tilgi synder – han sa til den lamme – "},{

‘But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins,’ he said to the paralyzed man,

"Jeg sier deg: Stå opp, ta din seng og gå hjem til ditt hus."

‘I tell you, get up, take your mat, and go home.’

Han sto straks opp, tok sengen og gikk ut foran alle, så alle ble forundret og priste Gud og sa: "Aldri har vi sett noe slikt."

And immediately, the man got up, took his mat, and went out in the sight of everyone, so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, 'We have never seen anything like this.'

Og han gikk igjen ut langs sjøen; og hele folkemengden kom til ham, og han lærte dem.

And again, Jesus went out beside the sea, and the crowd came to him, and he was teaching them.

Mens han gikk forbi, så han Levi, sønn av Alfeus, sitte ved tollboden, og han sa til ham: "Følg meg." Og han sto opp og fulgte ham.

As he passed by, he saw Levi, the son of Alphaeus, sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, 'Follow me.' And Levi got up and followed him.

Og det skjedde, mens han lå til bords i hans hus, at mange tollere og syndere satt til bords med Jesus og hans disipler; for det var mange, og de fulgte ham.

And while Jesus was dining in Levi's house, many tax collectors and sinners were reclining at the table with Jesus and his disciples, for there were many who followed him.

De skriftlærde og fariseerne så at han spiste med tollere og syndere og sa til disiplene hans: "Hvorfor spiser han med tollere og syndere?"

And when the scribes and Pharisees saw Jesus eating with tax collectors and sinners, they said to his disciples, 'Why does he eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?'

Da Jesus hørte det, sa han til dem: "De som er friske, trenger ikke lege, men de som er syke. Jeg er ikke kommet for å kalle rettferdige, men syndere til omvendelse."

When Jesus heard this, he said to them, 'Those who are well have no need of a doctor, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.'

Johannes disipler og fariseerne holdt faste, og de kom og sa til ham: "Hvorfor faster Johannes disipler og fariseernes disipler, men dine disipler faster ikke?"

Now John's disciples and the Pharisees were fasting, and people came and asked Jesus, 'Why do John's disciples and the Pharisees’ disciples fast, but your disciples do not fast?

Jesus svarte: "Kan brudgommens venner faste så lenge brudgommen er hos dem? Så lenge de har brudgommen hos seg, kan de ikke faste.

Jesus said to them, 'Can the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.'

Men dager skal komme da brudgommen blir tatt fra dem, og da skal de faste på den dagen."

'But the days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast on that day.'

Ingen syr en lapp av ukrympet stoff på et gammelt klesplagg. Hvis noen gjør det, rives den nye lappen av det gamle, og det blir et verre hull.

'No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. If he does, the patch pulls away from the garment, and the tear becomes worse.'

Ingen heller ny vin i gamle skinnsekker. Hvis noen gjør det, vil den nye vinen sprenge sekkene, og vinen blir ødelagt sammen med sekkene. Men ny vin skal i nye skinnsekker."

'And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the wineskins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. Instead, new wine is poured into fresh wineskins.'

Og det skjedde at han gikk gjennom kornåkrene på sabbaten, og hans disipler begynte å plukke aks mens de gikk.

One Sabbath, as Jesus was walking through the grainfields, his disciples began to pluck some heads of grain as they went along.

Fariseerne sa til ham: "Se, hvorfor gjør de noe som ikke er tillatt på sabbaten?"

The Pharisees said to Jesus, 'Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?

Han sa til dem: "Har dere aldri lest hva David gjorde da han var i nød og sultet, både han og de som var med ham?

Jesus said to them, 'Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need?

Hvordan han gikk inn i Guds hus på den tid Abiatar var yppersteprest, og åt skuebrødene, som ikke var tillatt for noen å spise, men bare for prestene, og han ga også til dem som var med ham?"

'He entered the house of God in the time of Abiathar the high priest and ate the bread of the Presence, which was not lawful for anyone but the priests to eat. He also gave some to his companions.'

Og han sa til dem: "Sabbaten ble til for menneskets skyld, ikke mennesket for sabbaten.

Then he said to them, 'The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.'

Derfor er Menneskesønnen herre også over sabbaten."

'So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.'
