Hiram, kongen av Tyros, sendte sine tjenere til Salomo, for han hadde hørt at de hadde salvet ham til konge etter hans far. For Hiram hadde alltid elsket David.

And Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants unto Solomon; for he had heard that they had anointed him king in the room of his father: for Hiram was ever a lover of David.

Og Salomo sendte bud til Hiram og sa:

And Solomon sent to Hiram, saying,

Du vet at David, min far, ikke kunne bygge et hus for Herrens, sin Guds navn, på grunn av krigene rundt ham, inntil Herren lot dem falle for hans føtter.

Thou knowest how that David my father could not build a house for the name of Jehovah his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until Jehovah put them under the soles of his feet.

Men nå har Herren min Gud gitt meg fred på alle kanter; det er verken fiender eller onde hendelser.

But now Jehovah my God hath given me rest on every side; there is neither adversary, nor evil occurrence.

Og se, jeg har bestemt meg for å bygge et hus for Herren min Guds navn, slik som Herren talte til David, min far, og sa: Din sønn, som jeg vil sette på din trone i ditt sted, han skal bygge huset for mitt navn.

And, behold, I purpose to build a house for the name of Jehovah my God, as Jehovah spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build the house for my name.

Gi derfor befaling om at de hugger sedertre for meg fra Libanon; og mine tjenere skal være sammen med dine tjenere, og jeg vil gi deg lønn for dine tjenere for alt du bestemmer: For du vet at det ikke finnes noen blant oss som kan hugge tømmer som sidonerne.

Now therefore command thou that they cut me cedar-trees out of Lebanon; and my servants shall be with thy servants; and I will give thee hire for thy servants according to all that thou shalt say: for thou knowest that there is not among us any that knoweth how to cut timber like unto the Sidonians.

Da Hiram hørte Salomos ord, gledet han seg stort og sa: Velsignet være Herren i dag, som har gitt David en vis sønn over dette store folket.

And it came to pass, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be Jehovah this day, who hath given unto David a wise son over this great people.

Hiram sendte bud til Salomo og sa: Jeg har hørt det budskapet du har sendt meg: Jeg vil gjøre alt du ønsker når det gjelder sedertre og tregods av gran.

And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, I have heard `the message' which thou hast sent unto me: I will do all thy desire concerning timber of cedar, and concerning timber of fir.

Mine tjenere skal ta det ned fra Libanon til havet, og jeg vil lage flåter av dem for å frakte dem til det stedet du bestemmer, og jeg vil få dem brutt opp der, og du skal ta dem imot; og du skal oppfylle mitt ønske ved å gi mat til mitt hus.

My servants shall bring them down from Lebanon unto the sea; and I will make them into rafts to go by sea unto the place that thou shalt appoint me, and will cause them to be broken up there, and thou shalt receive them; and thou shalt accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household.

Så ga Hiram Salomo tømmer av sedertre og tømmer av gran etter alt hans ønske.

So Hiram gave Solomon timber of cedar and timber of fir according to all his desire.

Og Salomo ga Hiram tyve tusen målinger hvete som mat til hans hus, og tyve mål med ren olje: slik ga Salomo til Hiram år etter år.

And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand measures of wheat for food to his household, and twenty measures of pure oil: thus gave Solomon to Hiram year by year.

Og Herren ga Salomo visdom, slik han hadde lovet ham; og det var fred mellom Hiram og Salomo, og de inngikk en pakt sammen.

And Jehovah gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him; and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.

Kong Salomo påla alle i Israel å yte arbeidskraft; og arbeidsstyrken var tretti tusen menn.

And king Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men.

Og han sendte dem til Libanon, ti tusen hver måned i skift; en måned var de i Libanon, og to måneder hjemme; og Adoniram hadde tilsyn over arbeidet.

And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses; a month they were in Lebanon, and two months at home; and Adoniram was over the men subject to taskwork.

Og Salomo hadde sytti tusen bærere, og åtti tusen steinhoggere i fjellene;

And Solomon had threescore and ten thousand that bare burdens, and fourscore thousand that were hewers in the mountains;

I tillegg til Salomos øverste embedsmenn som hadde tilsyn med arbeidet, tre tusen og tre hundre, som hadde kommando over folket som utførte arbeidet.

besides Solomon's chief officers that were over the work, three thousand and three hundred, who bare rule over the people that wrought in the work.

Kongen befalte, og de hogde ut store steiner, kostbare steiner, for å legge grunnvollen til huset med bearbeidet stein.

And the king commanded, and they hewed out great stones, costly stones, to lay the foundation of the house with wrought stone.

Salomos byggere, Hirams byggere og gebalittene utformet dem og gjorde klar tømmeret og steinene for å bygge huset.

And Solomon's builders and Hiram's builders and the Gebalites did fashion them, and prepared the timber and the stones to build the house.
