Dette er lovene og forskriftene som dere skal følge i det landet Herren, deres fedres Gud, har gitt dere å eie, alle dager dere lever på jorden.

These are the statutes and the ordinances which ye shall observe to do in the land which Jehovah, the God of thy fathers, hath given thee to possess it, all the days that ye live upon the earth.

Dere skal fullstendig ødelegge alle steder hvor de folkeslagene dere driver ut, har dyrket sine guder, på de høye fjellene, på haugene og under hvert grønt tre.

Ye shall surely destroy all the places wherein the nations that ye shall dispossess served their gods, upon the high mountains, and upon the hills, and under every green tree:

Dere skal rive ned deres altere, knuse deres steinsøyler, brenne deres Asjera-helligdommer med ild, hogge ned deres utskårne gudebilder, og utslette deres navn fra disse stedene.

and ye shall break down their altars, and dash in pieces their pillars, and burn their Asherim with fire; and ye shall hew down the graven images of their gods; and ye shall destroy their name out of that place.

Det samme skal dere ikke gjøre mot Herren deres Gud.

Ye shall not do so unto Jehovah your God.

Men til det stedet Herren deres Gud velger ut av alle stammene for å sette sitt navn der, skal dere søke dere, og dit skal dere komme.

But unto the place which Jehovah your God shall choose out of all your tribes, to put his name there, even unto his habitation shall ye seek, and thither thou shalt come;

Dit skal dere bringe brennofferene, ofrene deres, tienden, håndens hevegaver, løftene dere har gitt, frivillige gaver og de førstefødte av storfe og småfe.

and thither ye shall bring your burnt-offerings, and your sacrifices, and your tithes, and the heave-offering of your hand, and your vows, and your freewill-offerings, and the firstlings of your herd and of your flock:

Der skal dere spise foran Herren deres Gud, og dere skal glede dere over alt dere gjør, dere og deres familier, fordi Herren deres Gud har velsignet dere.

and there ye shall eat before Jehovah your God, and ye shall rejoice in all that ye put your hand unto, ye and your households, wherein Jehovah thy God hath blessed thee.

Dere skal ikke gjøre som vi gjør her i dag, hvor hver mann gjør det som er rett i hans egne øyne.

Ye shall not do after all the things that we do here this day, every man whatsoever is right in his own eyes;

For ennå er dere ikke kommet til hvilen og arven som Herren deres Gud gir dere.

for ye are not as yet come to the rest and to the inheritance, which Jehovah thy God giveth thee.

Men når dere går over Jordan og bor i det landet Herren deres Gud gir dere å eie, og han gir dere hvile fra alle fiendene rundt omkring slik at dere bor trygt,

But when ye go over the Jordan, and dwell in the land which Jehovah your God causeth you to inherit, and he giveth you rest from all your enemies round about, so that ye dwell in safety;

da skal det skje at til det stedet Herren deres Gud velger for å la sitt navn bo der, skal dere bringe alt jeg befaler dere: deres brennoffer, ofrene deres, tienden, håndens hevegaver og alle de valgløftene dere lover Herren.

then it shall come to pass that to the place which Jehovah your God shall choose, to cause his name to dwell there, thither shall ye bring all that I command you: your burnt-offerings, and your sacrifices, your tithes, and the heave-offering of your hand, and all your choice vows which ye vow unto Jehovah.

Og dere skal glede dere foran Herren deres Gud, dere og deres sønner og døtre, deres tjenere og tjenestepiker, og levitten som er innenfor deres porter, fordi han ikke har noen del eller arv hos dere.

And ye shall rejoice before Jehovah your God, ye, and your sons, and your daughters, and your men-servants, and your maid-servants, and the Levite that is within your gates, forasmuch as he hath no portion nor inheritance with you.

Vær forsiktig at dere ikke ofrer deres brennoffer på et hvilket som helst sted dere ser,

Take heed to thyself that thou offer not thy burnt-offerings in every place that thou seest;

men bare på det stedet Herren velger i en av deres stammer. Der skal dere ofre deres brennoffer, og der skal dere gjøre alt jeg befaler dere.

but in the place which Jehovah shall choose in one of thy tribes, there thou shalt offer thy burnt-offerings, and there thou shalt do all that I command thee.

Men dere kan slakte og spise kjøtt innenfor alle deres porter, etter all den lyst dere har, i henhold til den velsignelse Herren deres Gud har gitt dere. Den urene og den rene kan spise det, som gaseller og hjorter.

Notwithstanding, thou mayest kill and eat flesh within all thy gates, after all the desire of thy soul, according to the blessing of Jehovah thy God which he hath given thee: the unclean and the clean may eat thereof, as of the gazelle, and as of the hart.

Men dere skal ikke spise blodet; dere skal helle det ut på jorden som vann.

Only ye shall not eat the blood; thou shalt pour it out upon the earth as water.

Dere må ikke innenfor portene spise tienden av kornet, av den nye vinen, av oljen, de førstefødte av storfeet eller småfeet deres, noen av de løftene dere gjør, deres frivillige gaver eller håndens hevegaver.

Thou mayest not eat within thy gates the tithe of thy grain, or of thy new wine, or of thine oil, or the firstlings of thy herd or of thy flock, nor any of thy vows which thou vowest, nor thy freewill-offerings, nor the heave-offering of thy hand;

Men dere skal spise dem foran Herren deres Gud på det stedet Herren deres Gud velger, dere, deres sønn, deres datter, deres tjener, deres tjenestepike og levitten som er innenfor deres porter. Og dere skal glede dere foran Herren deres Gud i alt dere gjør.

but thou shalt eat them before Jehovah thy God in the place which Jehovah thy God shall choose, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy man-servant, and thy maid-servant, and the Levite that is within thy gates: and thou shalt rejoice before Jehovah thy God in all that thou puttest thy hand unto.

Vær nøye med at dere ikke forsømmer levitten, så lenge dere lever i deres land.

Take heed to thyself that thou forsake not the Levite as long as thou livest in thy land.

Når Herren deres Gud utvider deres grenser som han har lovet dere, og dere sier: 'Jeg vil spise kjøtt', fordi dere har lyst til å spise kjøtt, kan dere spise kjøtt når dere ønsker det.

When Jehovah thy God shall enlarge thy border, as he hath promised thee, and thou shalt say, I will eat flesh, because thy soul desireth to eat flesh; thou mayest eat flesh, after all the desire of thy soul.

Hvis stedet Herren deres Gud velger for å sette sitt navn der er for langt borte fra dere, kan dere slakte av storfeet og småfeet som Herren har gitt dere, i tråd med det jeg har befalt dere, og dere kan spise innenfor portene, etter all den lyst dere har.

If the place which Jehovah thy God shall choose, to put his name there, be too far from thee, then thou shalt kill of thy herd and of thy flock, which Jehovah hath given thee, as I have commanded thee; and thou mayest eat within thy gates, after all the desire of thy soul.

Slik dere spiser gaseller og hjorter, så skal dere spise av det. Den urene og den rene kan spise det sammen.

Even as the gazelle and as the hart is eaten, so thou shalt eat thereof: the unclean and the clean may eat thereof alike.

Men vær forsikret om at dere ikke spiser blodet, for blodet er livet. Dere skal ikke spise livet med kjøttet.

Only be sure that thou eat not the blood: for the blood is the life; and thou shalt not eat the life with the flesh.

Dere skal ikke spise det; dere skal helle det ut på jorden som vann.

Thou shalt not eat it; thou shalt pour it out upon the earth as water.

Dere skal ikke spise det, for at det kan gå dere vel, og deres barn etter dere, når dere gjør det som er rett i Herrens øyne.

Thou shalt not eat it; that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee, when thou shalt do that which is right in the eyes of Jehovah.

De hellige ting dere har, og deres løfter, skal dere ta med dere til det stedet Herren velger.

Only thy holy things which thou hast, and thy vows, thou shalt take, and go unto the place which Jehovah shall choose:

Og dere skal ofre deres brennoffer, både kjøttet og blodet, på Herrens deres Guds alter. Og blodet av deres ofre skal bli helt ut på Herrens deres Guds alter, men kjøttet skal dere spise.

and thou shalt offer thy burnt-offerings, the flesh and the blood, upon the altar of Jehovah thy God; and the blood of thy sacrifices shall be poured out upon the altar of Jehovah thy God; and thou shalt eat the flesh.

Hold og hør alle disse ordene jeg befaler dere, for at det kan gå dere vel, og deres barn etter dere for alltid, når dere gjør det som er godt og rett i Herren deres Guds øyne.

Observe and hear all these words which I command thee, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee for ever, when thou doest that which is good and right in the eyes of Jehovah thy God.

Når Herren deres Gud kutter ut nasjonene foran dere, hvor dere går inn for å overta dem, og dere tar dem i eie og bor i deres land,

When Jehovah thy God shall cut off the nations from before thee, whither thou goest in to dispossess them, and thou dispossessest them, and dwellest in their land;

vær oppmerksomme slik at dere ikke lar dere friste til å følge dem etter at de er blitt ødelagt foran dere, og at dere ikke spør etter deres guder og sier: 'Hvordan tjener disse nasjonene sine guder? Slik vil jeg også gjøre.'

take heed to thyself that thou be not ensnared to follow them, after that they are destroyed from before thee; and that thou inquire not after their gods, saying, How do these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.

Dere skal ikke gjøre slik mot Herren deres Gud, for hver avskyelig handling som Herren hater, har de gjort for sine guder. De har til og med brent sine sønner og døtre i ild for sine guder.

Thou shalt not do so unto Jehovah thy God: for every abomination to Jehovah, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters do they burn in the fire to their gods.

Alt jeg befaler dere, skal dere holde øye med å gjøre. Dere skal ikke legge noe til eller trekke noe fra det.

What thing soever I command you, that shall ye observe to do: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.
