Nå hørte Pashhur, sønn av Immer, presten som var sjef i Herrens hus, at Jeremia profeterte disse tingene.

Now Pashhur, the son of Immer the priest, who was chief officer in the house of Jehovah, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things.

Da slo Pashhur profeten Jeremia, og satte ham i stokken som var ved den øvre porten til Benjamin, som var i Herrens hus.

Then Pashhur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the upper gate of Benjamin, which was in the house of Jehovah.

Dagen etter brakte Pashhur Jeremia ut av stokken. Da sa Jeremia til ham: Herren har ikke kalt deg Pashhur, men Magor-Missabib.

And it came to pass on the morrow, that Pashhur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then said Jeremiah unto him, Jehovah hath not called thy name Pashhur, but Magor-missabib.

For slik sier Herren: Se, jeg vil gjøre deg til en skrekk for deg selv og for alle dine venner; og de skal falle for sine fienders sverd, og dine øyne skal se det; og jeg vil gi hele Juda i hånden på kongen av Babylon, og han skal føre dem bort til Babylon som fanger, og drepe dem med sverdet.

For thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will make thee a terror to thyself, and to all thy friends; and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and thine eyes shall behold it; and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive to Babylon, and shall slay them with the sword.

Jeg vil også gi all rikdommen i denne byen, alle dens eiendeler og alle dens kostbarheter, ja, alle skattkamrene til kongene av Juda, i fiendenes hånd; de skal gjøre dem til bytte, ta dem og føre dem til Babylon.

Moreover I will give all the riches of this city, and all the gains thereof, and all the precious things thereof, yea, all the treasures of the kings of Judah will I give into the hand of their enemies; and they shall make them a prey, and take them, and carry them to Babylon.

Og du, Pashhur, og alle som bor i ditt hus skal gå i fangenskap; og du skal komme til Babylon, og der skal du dø, og der skal du bli begravet, du og alle dine venner som du har profetert falskt for.

And thou, Pashhur, and all that dwell in thy house shall go into captivity; and thou shalt come to Babylon, and there thou shalt die, and there shalt thou be buried, thou, and all thy friends, to whom thou hast prophesied falsely.

Å, Herre, du har overtalt meg, og jeg ble overtalt; du er sterkere enn jeg og har fått overtaket: jeg er blitt til en latter hele dagen, alle spotter meg.

O Jehovah, thou hast persuaded me, and I was persuaded; thou art stronger than I, and hast prevailed: I am become a laughing-stock all the day, every one mocketh me.

For når jeg snakker, roper jeg ut; jeg roper, Vold og ødeleggelse! fordi Herrens ord har blitt til spott for meg og til latter hele dagen.

For as often as I speak, I cry out; I cry, Violence and destruction! because the word of Jehovah is made a reproach unto me, and a derision, all the day.

Og hvis jeg sier: Jeg vil ikke nevne ham, eller tale i hans navn mer, da er det som en brennende ild i mitt hjerte, innestengt i mine ben, og jeg er trett av å holde det tilbake, og jeg kan ikke.

And if I say, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name, then there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am weary with forbearing, and I cannot `contain'.

For jeg har hørt mange baktale, skrekk på alle kanter. Angi, og vi skal angi ham, sier alle mine venner, de som venter på at jeg skal falle; kanskje han blir overtalt, og vi skal få overtaket mot ham og ta vår hevn på ham.

For I have heard the defaming of many, terror on every side. Denounce, and we will denounce him, `say' all my familiar friends, they that watch for my fall; peradventure he will be persuaded, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him.

Men Herren er med meg som en mektig helt; derfor skal mine forfølgere snuble, og de skal ikke klare det; de skal bli dypt beskjemmet, med en evig vanære som aldri skal glemmes.

But Jehovah is with me as a mighty one `and' a terrible: therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail; they shall be utterly put to shame, because they have not dealt wisely, even with an everlasting dishonor which shall never be forgotten.

Men, Å hærskarenes Herre, du som prøver den rettferdige, som ser hjertet og sinnet, la meg se din hevn over dem; for til deg har jeg avslørt min sak.

But, O Jehovah of hosts, that triest the righteous, that seest the heart and the mind, let me see thy vengeance on them; for unto thee have I revealed my cause.

Syng til Herren, pris Herren; for han har frelst den fattiges sjel fra de ondes hånd.

Sing unto Jehovah, praise ye Jehovah; for he hath delivered the soul of the needy from the hand of evil-doers.

Forbannet være den dagen jeg ble født: la ikke dagen da min mor fødte meg blive velsignet.

Cursed be the day wherein I was born: let not the day wherein my mother bare me be blessed.

Forbannet være mannen som brakte meldingen til min far og sa, Det er født deg en guttebarn; og gjorde ham veldig glad.

Cursed be the man who brought tidings to my father, saying, A man-child is born unto thee; making him very glad.

La den mannen bli som byene som Herren ødela uten anger: la ham høre skrik om morgenen og rop ved middagstid;

And let that man be as the cities which Jehovah overthrew, and repented not: and let him hear a cry in the morning, and shouting at noontime;

fordi han ikke drepte meg fra mors liv; så ville min mor vært min grav, og hennes liv alltid vært stor.

because he slew me not from the womb; and so my mother would have been my grave, and her womb always great.

Hvorfor kom jeg ut av mors liv for å se slit og sorg, så mine dager skulle bruke opp i skam?

Wherefore came I forth out of the womb to see labor and sorrow, that my days should be consumed with shame?
