Verse 1
First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people,
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
Verse 2
for kings and all those in authority, so that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.
For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
Verse 3
This is good and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior,
For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
Verse 4
who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
Verse 5
For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus,
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
Verse 6
who gave himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time.
Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
Verse 7
For this purpose, I was appointed as a herald and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.
Verse 8
Therefore, I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or disputing.
I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
Verse 9
Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair, gold, pearls, or expensive clothing,
In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
Verse 10
but with good works, which are appropriate for women who profess to worship God.
But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.
Verse 11
A woman should learn in quietness and full submission.
Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
Verse 12
I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be quiet.
But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
Verse 13
For Adam was formed first, then Eve.
For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
Verse 14
And Adam was not deceived, but the woman, being deceived, fell into transgression.
And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
Verse 15
But she will be saved through childbearing, if they continue in faith, love, and holiness with self-control.
Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.
