The idols of Egypt tremble before Him, and the hearts of the Egyptians melt within them. 2 I will stir up Egyptians against Egyptians, and they will fight, each against his brother, each against his neighbor, city against city, and kingdom against kingdom. 3 The spirit of the Egyptians will be emptied from within them, and I will confound their plans. They will seek idols, mediums, spirits, and fortune-tellers. 4 I will hand over the Egyptians to a harsh master, and a fierce king will rule over them,” declares the Lord, the LORD of Hosts. 5 The waters will dry up from the sea, and the river will be parched and dry. 6 The rivers will stink, the streams of Egypt will dwindle and dry up; reeds and rushes will wither. 7 The meadows by the Nile, along the banks of the river, and all sown land by the Nile will wither, be blown away, and be no more. 8 The fishermen will mourn, all who cast hooks into the Nile will lament, and those who spread nets on the water will grow weak. 9 Those who work with combed flax and those who weave fine linen will be dismayed. 10 The pillars of the land will be crushed, and all who work for wages will be dejected in spirit. 11 The princes of Zoan are utterly foolish; Pharaoh's wisest counselors give senseless advice. How can you say to Pharaoh, 'I am a descendant of the wise, a son of ancient kings'? 12 Where are your wise men now? Let them tell you and make known what the LORD of Hosts has planned against Egypt. 13 The princes of Zoan have become fools; the princes of Memphis are deceived. They have led Egypt astray, the cornerstone of its tribes. 14 The LORD has mixed within her a spirit of confusion, and they have led Egypt astray in all that it does, like a drunkard staggering in his vomit. 15 There will be no work for Egypt that head or tail, palm branch or reed, can accomplish. 16 In that day, the Egyptians will be like women and will tremble with fear before the uplifted hand of the LORD of Hosts, which He raises against them. 17 The land of Judah will terrify Egypt, and everyone in Egypt who hears the mention of it will be gripped with fear because of the plan of the LORD of Hosts, which He is devising against them. 18 In that day, five cities in the land of Egypt will speak the language of Canaan and swear allegiance to the LORD of Hosts. The Assyrians will go to Egypt, and the Egyptians to Assyria, and the Egyptians and Assyrians will worship together. 24 In that day, Israel will join a threefold alliance with Egypt and Assyria—a blessing upon the earth. 25 The LORD of Hosts will bless them, saying, 'Blessed be Egypt My people, Assyria My handiwork, and Israel My inheritance.'

A day of clouds, a time of doom for the nations. 4 A sword will come against Egypt, and anguish will be in Cush when the slain fall in Egypt. Her wealth will be carried away, and her foundations will be demolished. 5 Cush, Put, Lud, all the mixed peoples, and Kub, along with the people of the covenant land, will fall by the sword. 6 This is what the Lord says: 'Those who support Egypt will fall, and her proud strength will collapse. From Migdol to Aswan, they will fall by the sword within her,' declares the Lord God. 7 They will be desolate among desolate lands, and their cities will lie in ruins among ruined cities. 8 Then they will know that I am the Lord when I set fire to Egypt, and all her allies are broken. 9 On that day, messengers will go out from Me in ships to terrify Cush, which lives in complacency. Anguish will overwhelm them on the day of Egypt’s doom, for it is coming! 10 This is what the Lord God says: 'I will put an end to the wealth of Egypt by the hand of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon.' 11 He and his army, the ruthless of the nations, will be brought to destroy the land. They will draw their swords against Egypt and fill the land with the slain. 12 'I will dry up the streams of Egypt, sell the land into the hands of evil men, and desolate the land and everything in it by the hand of foreigners. I, the Lord, have spoken.' 13 This is what the Lord God says: 'I will destroy idols, and I will put an end to worthless images in Memphis. There will no longer be a prince in Egypt, and I will fill the land with fear.' 14 'I will lay waste Pathros, set fire to Zoan, and execute judgments on Thebes.' 15 I will pour out my wrath on Pelusium, the stronghold of Egypt, and will destroy the multitude of Thebes. 16 I will set fire to Egypt; Pelusium will writhe in agony, Thebes will be breached, and Memphis will face daily distress. 17 The young men of Heliopolis and Bubastis will fall by the sword, and the cities will go into captivity. 18 The day will be darkened in Tahpanhes when I break the yokes of Egypt there. Her proud strength will cease, and a cloud will cover her, while her villages go into captivity. 19 I will execute judgments on Egypt, and they will know that I am the Lord. 20 In the eleventh year, in the first month, on the seventh day, the word of the Lord came to me, saying: 21 'Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh, king of Egypt. It has not been bound up to be healed or bandaged to make it strong enough to grasp a sword.' 22 Therefore, this is what the Lord God says: 'Behold, I am against Pharaoh, king of Egypt. I will break both his strong arm and his broken one and cause the sword to fall from his hand.' 23 I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations and disperse them throughout the lands. 24 I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon and place my sword in his hand. But I will break Pharaoh's arms, and he will groan before him like the mortally wounded. 25 I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, but Pharaoh's arms will fall limp. Then they will know that I am the Lord, when I put my sword into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he stretches it out against the land of Egypt. 26 I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations and disperse them throughout the lands. Then they will know that I am the Lord.
  • Jer 46:1-9 : 1 This is the word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the nations. 2 Concerning Egypt: about the army of Pharaoh Neco, king of Egypt, which was at the Euphrates River in Carchemish and was defeated by Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah. 3 Prepare your shields, both small and large, and march out for battle! 4 Harness the horses, and mount the riders! Take your positions with helmets on! Polish the spears, and put on your armor! 5 Why do I see them terrified, retreating? Their warriors are beaten down; they flee in haste without looking back—terror is all around! declares the Lord. 6 The swift cannot flee, nor can the strong escape. In the north, by the river Euphrates, they stumble and fall. 7 Who is this that rises like the Nile, like rivers that surge and toss about? 8 Egypt rises like the Nile, and its waters surge like rivers. It says, 'I will rise and cover the earth; I will destroy cities and their inhabitants.' 9 Charge, you horses! Drive furiously, you charioteers! Let the warriors march out—Cush and Put, wielding shields, and the Ludim, skilled in using the bow. 10 For that day belongs to the Lord, the Lord of Hosts— a day of vengeance to avenge his foes. The sword will devour until it is satisfied, till it is drunk with their blood. For the Lord, the Lord of Hosts, will hold a sacrifice in the land of the north by the Euphrates River. 11 Go up to Gilead and get balm, Virgin Daughter Egypt. But you multiply remedies in vain; there is no healing for you. 12 The nations have heard of your shame; the earth is filled with your cry. One warrior stumbles over another; both fall together. 13 This is the word that the Lord spoke to Jeremiah the prophet about Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, coming to strike the land of Egypt. 14 Announce it in Egypt, proclaim it in Migdol; proclaim it also in Memphis and Tahpanhes: 'Take your positions and prepare yourself, for the sword has devoured those around you.' 15 Why has your strong one been swept away? He did not stand because the Lord drove him away. 16 He caused many to stumble; they fell one upon another. They said, 'Get up! Let us return to our own people and our homeland, away from the oppressing sword.' 17 'Pharaoh, king of Egypt, is nothing but noise; he has missed his opportunity,' they said. 18 As surely as I live, declares the King, whose name is the Lord of Hosts, one will come like Tabor among the mountains, like Carmel by the sea. 19 Prepare your belongings for exile, you who live in Egypt, for Memphis will become a desolation, a ruin without inhabitants. 20 Egypt is a beautiful heifer, but a stinging gadfly from the north is coming against her. 21 Even her mercenaries in her midst are like fattened calves; they too will turn and flee together. They cannot stand, for the day of their calamity has come upon them, the time of their punishment. 22 Her voice will hiss like a serpent as they advance in force; with axes they come against her, like those who cut down trees. 23 They will cut down her forest, declares the Lord, though it is dense. They are more numerous than locusts; they cannot be counted. 24 The Daughter of Egypt will be put to shame; she will be handed over to people from the north. 25 The Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: 'See, I am about to punish Amon of Thebes, Pharaoh, Egypt, her gods, her kings, Pharaoh, and those who trust in him.' 26 I will hand them over to those who want to take their lives, to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and his servants. But afterward, Egypt will be inhabited again as in ancient days,' declares the Lord.
