Verse 1
A Song of Ascents. Remember, O LORD, on behalf of David, all his afflictions.
A Song of degrees. LORD, remember David, and all his afflictions:
Verse 2
He swore to the LORD, and made a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob:
How he sware unto the LORD, and vowed unto the mighty God of Jacob;
Verse 3
'I will not enter my house, nor will I go up to my bed;
Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house, nor go up into my bed;
Verse 4
I will not give sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids,
I will not give sleep to mine eyes, or slumber to mine eyelids,
Verse 5
until I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.'
Until I find out a place for the LORD, an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob.
Verse 6
Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah; we found it in the fields of the forest.
Lo, we heard of it at Ephratah: we found it in the fields of the wood.
Verse 7
Let us go to His dwelling place; let us worship at His footstool.
We will go into his tabernacles: we will worship at his footstool.
Verse 8
Arise, O LORD, to Your resting place, You and the ark of Your strength.
Arise, O LORD, into thy rest; thou, and the ark of thy strength.
Verse 9
Let Your priests be clothed with righteousness, and let Your faithful ones shout for joy.
Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness; and let thy saints shout for joy.
Verse 10
For the sake of Your servant David, do not turn away the face of Your anointed one.
For thy servant David's sake turn not away the face of thine anointed.
Verse 11
The LORD has sworn in truth to David; He will not turn back from it: 'From the fruit of your body I will set one upon your throne.'
The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.
Verse 12
If your sons keep My covenant and My testimony that I shall teach them, their sons also will sit upon your throne forever.
If thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore.
Verse 13
For the LORD has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His dwelling place:
For the LORD hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation.
Verse 14
'This is My resting place forever; here I will dwell, for I have desired it.'
This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it.
Verse 15
'I will abundantly bless her provision; I will satisfy her needy with bread.'
I will abundantly bless her provision: I will satisfy her poor with bread.
Verse 16
'I will clothe her priests with salvation, and her faithful ones will sing for joy.'
I will also clothe her priests with salvation: and her saints shall shout aloud for joy.
Verse 17
'There I will cause a horn to sprout for David; I have prepared a lamp for My anointed one.'
There will I make the horn of David to bud: I have ordained a lamp for mine anointed.
Verse 18
'I will clothe his enemies with shame, but upon him, his crown will shine brightly.'
His enemies will I clothe with shame: but upon himself shall his crown flourish.
