Verse 1
For the director of music, a psalm of David.
Hear my voice, O God, in my prayer: preserve my life from fear of the enemy.
Verse 2
Hear my voice, O God, in my complaint; protect my life from the fear of the enemy.
Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked; from the insurrection of the workers of iniquity:
Verse 3
Hide me from the secret counsel of evildoers, from the tumult of those who practice wickedness.
Who whet their tongue like a sword, and bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words:
Verse 4
They sharpen their tongues like swords and aim their words like bitter arrows.
That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not.
Verse 5
They shoot from hiding places at the innocent; they shoot suddenly, without fear.
They encourage themselves in an evil matter: they commune of laying snares privily; they say, Who shall see them?
Verse 6
They encourage each other in evil plans; they talk about hiding snares and say, 'Who will see them?'
They search out iniquities; they accomplish a diligent search: both the inward thought of every one of them, and the heart, is deep.
Verse 7
They devise unjust schemes, saying, 'We have perfected a cunning plan!'; truly the inward mind and heart of man are deep.
But God shall shoot at them with an arrow; suddenly shall they be wounded.
Verse 8
But God will shoot them with an arrow; suddenly, they will be struck down.
So they shall make their own tongue to fall upon themselves: all that see them shall flee away.
Verse 9
Their own tongues will cause their downfall; all who see them will shake their heads.
And all men shall fear, and shall declare the work of God; for they shall wisely consider of his doing.
Verse 10
All mankind will fear and proclaim the works of God, and they will ponder what He has done.
The righteous shall be glad in the LORD, and shall trust in him; and all the upright in heart shall glory.
Verse 11
The righteous will rejoice in the Lord and take refuge in Him; all who are upright in heart will glory in Him.
